lol I’m in so many Linux groups.

I block NSFW and apparently endless anime communities.

megabat , to memes in At least the bed looks comfy and can be adjusted in 2 different places!

Funny thing. Some of my Norwegian family came to the US for healthcare they couldn’t get in Norway. I believe it was some type of heart surgery one time and and I can’t remember the other. So while it is expensive and out of pocket you can actually get that surgery when you need it.

boogetyboo ,
@boogetyboo@aussie.zone avatar

Sounds like it was a specialist surgery that Norway’s smaller population doesn’t accommodate. Hardly an indication that other countries are flocking to the US for their on demand healthcare.

megabat , (edited )

Yeah but I mean I really wasn’t saying people are flocking to the US. I’m just saying that people with means, even in the countries we think of as having great health care do still come to the US to get advanced procedures they can’t get or can’t get fast enough where they are. But as the meme says it’s going to be expensive. Edit: Oh I just realized I’ve been posting on .ml, I need to stop doing that…

GregorGizeh , (edited ) to asklemmy in Lemmings, which communities are you blocking?

Without Linux and trek you miss out on the best of Lemmy lol

I have blocked a range of conservative, rightwinger, hexbear and lemmygrad communities and instances, copious amounts of furry and anime porn, a great many LGBT communities which i am not the target user for (esp. Nsfw ones), some weird niche porn I really dont want to ever see on my feed, any communities that post ai generated content, and a bunch of others.

All in all about 90 communities I think

I don’t block any communities. I’m confused as to what the point of blocking communities is—are you browsing All? I only see posts from communities I’m subscribed to

salmoura ,

are you browsing All?

And sorting by new, yes.

Scipitie ,

I use lemmy in two ways: Whitelist: show me my subscriptions and only those (subscribed) Or blacklisted: show me everything else except the things I want to never see.

The latter lead me to this thread! It’s two different experiences for me and I get a bit out of my interest bubble from time to time.

Baku ,

I pretty much only browse Lemmy on either /local new/top day, or /all new. But to be fair, I mainly only care about local communities (and I’m on a local instance), and memes. I think if I used a general purpose instance, particularly one without its own communities, I would probably used subscribed mostly

The usual, politics, gay, whitepeopletwitter, news etc.

This is what you get when someone asks the question “how can we make the bathroom not only inaccessible to disabled people, but also a means to create more disabled people”?

And they really nailed the answer.

@Jezebelley Tankies and Far left mostly, I'm not American, so I also block a fair amount of America-centric communities, as I am just not a target of those

And memes, they're usually unfunny to me

nothacking , (edited ) to asklemmy in Lemmings, which communities are you blocking?

All the tankie (far “left”) shit. It’s all either bad faith arguments (trolling), blatant propaganda or people who never bothered to fact check the propaganda.

They also create an inordinate amount of communities, had to use the “block instance” button a lot.

NSFW stuff also gets annoying after a while, but that seems less prevalent. (Just had to block one instance to get 99%)

Looking at my block list, the AI images and niece music stuff also got added at some point.

And they say fediverse does not have very niche communities...

CoffeeJunkie ,

Who knows how many are active, but yeah it’s really bad. I’ll be power scrolling All for random porn (I see something blurred out), I click on it, oh fuck, my eyes. Lol

Some of these names, too. It makes me laugh. “Welcome to… Gay Fisting”. 😆

corsicanguppy ,

Tankie is far left? I thought it was far right. I admit I never really was sure, though.

If you’re in America, do you see the entire rest of the g-20 as really far left? They do free healthcare and schooling in the g-20 but require almost as much tax as America, and I’m wondering if that makes them appear really far left given America’s parties are center-right and far-right and everyone could have that as their point of view.

nothacking ,

I mostly see tankies as an authoritarian (far right?) group pretending to be far left. Or at least that’s how they brand it, even though they openly advocate for government confiscation of all property.

Facebones ,

Half of this comment section is people who probably consider themselves “centrist” but shriek tankie and block anybody even an inch left of biden. 🤣

Cowbee ,

Half of Lemmy, I would say. There’s a bimodal distrubution on Lemmy, centering around Leftism and Liberalism, with variance among those.

corsicanguppy , to asklemmy in Lemmings, which communities are you blocking?

I block a number of them:

  • languages I don’t speak, just because I can’t read them anyway ;-)
  • I’m banned from one, so I insta-blocked it.
  • if I can’t comment, I don’t wanna see it.

Hmm. I guess I block anything where communication isn’t bidirectional. I have a television, so I don’t need passive consumption of non-interactive content here.
