Rivalarrival , to news in Uber shuts down alcohol delivery service Drizly three years after its purchase

DoorDash still has alcohol deliveries.

You would be amazed at how many people place a delivery order, then either leave home, pass out, or won’t answer the door.

hitmyspot ,

Here in Australia Uber and doordash both have alcohol deliveries and grocery deliveries. The core business is food. Recently I’ve noticed doordash offering alcohol too, before you’ve completed a food order. A second order for free, made at the same time. They had already offered a top up double dash, after you ordered. They’re cutting one step.

jawa21 ,

The one time I’ve had an alcohol delivery come up, it was a case of beer from Walgreens at like 9 pm. I got there and the store was uncharactrtistically closed. I can only imagine how pissed they were finding that out.

Rivalarrival ,

I get them all the time for Meijers and a local bar/liquor store. One restaurant still sells margaritas in plastic cups, “sealed” with just a paper tape. I’m not completely sure that’s legal, but I look forward to the GoFundMe for my legal fees and living expenses if and when I get arrested for it.

I’ve been left with 4 bottles of champagne, a bottle of prosecco, 3 cases of beer, and a box of wine in the past year, where the customer just didn’t want to answer the door.

Spiralvortexisalie ,

NAL, but it would appear in most places in the great nation of America, any tape on a lidded plastic cup is a sufficient seal to defeat an open container citation (appears to be similarly treated as wine bottles that have paper/label seals) and it appears more than half the union offers drive up liquor sales in additions to NOLA’s famous drive thru margaritas source: (motorbiscuit.com/margarita-madness-states-offer-d…). If you are still worried you can check out here and click on your states law to get more in depth findlaw.com/…/open-container-laws-by-state.html

Rivalarrival ,

I’m not worried about it at all. I figure that if there is an issue with the packaging, the restaurant and DD would be liable.

Michigan’s laws only very recently (during the pandemic) changed to allow this.

I mention Michigan specifically because they mentioned Meijer and Michigan is one of the states you can find those.

In Tokyo they had a Stranger Things themed restaurant for a while. Pop up culture is pretty big in Japan so it worked out great I suppose. I don’t expect it to work in other places nearly as well. Especially if it’s a permanent structure.

Pyr_Pressure ,

One thing you could do would be to build a common “theme” for the structure and then switch out the basis on a monthly basis.

So build a tavern section and then one month do the witcher, the next game of thrones, then pirates of the Caribbean, etc.

Space ship theme for Star Trek, Star wars, firefly

Retro theme for stranger things, and other stuff that I can’t think of right now.

emeralddawn45 ,

I mean the spaceships in star trek, star wars and firefly all have pretty different interiors. Of your idea is to draw in fans of specific shows you don’t really want to have a “generic sci fi” setting.

Pyr_Pressure ,

Well, yeah you wouldn’t be able to re-use everything but certain things like the building structure and cutlery, flooring, etc probably wouldn’t have to be modified much. Some of the more expensive things to switch out.

sub_ , to gaming in Why Baldur’s Gate III is an accidental PS5 console exclusive

Wait, there’s a split screen on Baldur’s Gate III? Normally I’d expect split screen games are for games with shorter gameplay loop, e.g. FPS, racing.

It’s kinda interesting that there’s a split screen couch co-op for a long sprawling RPG. Also doesn’t that make all the UIs and texts even more busy / cramped?

I just read that some people are trying out split screen. on steam deck, that’s wild.

Draedron ,

Split screen really is the only way if the party can split up

SwagaliciousSR ,

Yeah, from what I understand Microsoft demanded 2 player co op splitscreen on one Xbox, which the ps5 can’t do either. The whole splitting the party up would be impossible and I bet they’d have to enforce close close proximity between pc characters to only render one environment at a time if they somehow pull it off going forward, and even then multi-zone on on xbox? which I think is unlikely as my 3 year old top end gaming rig barely gets 60 fps 2k ultrawide.

Anyone have any idea why Microsoft was so adamant about this?

Or is all that just bs and the Xbox can’t push it? All the peeps talking about the steam deck pushing it. Yes, but few are mentioning the settings @1280x720 @30 fps all settings on minimum.

rancor ,

I haven’t tried it with BG3 yet, but split screen on Divinity Original Sin 2 allowed the party to fully split up and go wherever they wanted.

I would assume it’s the same in BG3

magic_lobster_party ,

BG3 should have split screen coop on PS5.

The problem with Xbox is that Larian couldn’t manage to make it work on Series S due to memory constraints. It takes a huge toll on memory if you allow two characters be on two parts of the map at the same time.

Microsoft wants Series S to be a cheaper 1080p option of Series X. Any game Series X can play should Series S also play with lower visual fidelity. This turns out to be a flawed dream by the looks of it.

I don’t think Microsoft will abandon this cheap 1080p console vision just because of one game, but they might need to if more games start to drop Xbox support due to this.

sparky ,
@sparky@lemmy.federate.cc avatar

MS probably wants to make sure that Series S doesn’t end up missing out on games or getting subpar experiences, given they promised their customers that it’s the same as an X just at a lower resolution. You can see how they want to avoid outcomes like Series S being confined to lower player counts, smaller maps, or other game-restricting features.

But they’ve painted themselves into a corner in this case. Split screen requires rendering the whole game twice, which the S isn’t powerful enough to do. It’s also probably a feature few players will actually use.

Seems like this case should be an exception to the parity requirements.

KiofKi ,
@KiofKi@feddit.de avatar

Larian already did excellent split screen in D:OS2 (Maybe also in other games, no idea). The controller UI is very different from the M+K one and split screen is only available with controller input.

autotldr Bot , to technology in Google rolls out anti-stalking measures for AirTag and other Bluetooth trackers

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The company’s unknown tracker alerts and other safety measures, announced at Google I/O in May, should start appearing on Android 6.0+ devices beginning today.

If your Android phone notifies you about a discovered tracking accessory, you can tap on the alert to learn more about it, including a map of where it traveled with you and (in some cases) a serial number and info about the device’s owner.

Once your phone receives the update, navigate to Settings > Safety & Emergency > Unknown Tracker Alerts, and select the “Scan now” button.

Google says the manual search only takes about ten seconds, and if it finds one, you’ll see the same options as if you received an automatic alert.

Google decided to wait for Apple to implement its full unknown tracking protections into iOS before rolling out the new feature.

Note that Google’s anti-stalking measures may reduce the effectiveness of following tracked stolen items on a map since enterprising thieves can soon quickly discover hidden trackers, no matter which phone they use.

They can’t get the tag off my bike without specific tools, so if they’re warned that the bike they stole is tracking them and it leads to them abandoning the bike somewhere, all the better for me.

This all comes after striking actors rejected a proposal from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) that generously offered workers a one-time $200 day rate for performers to get scanned for future use as AI-enhanced CGI simulacrums forever, until the end of time. SAG-AFTRA says the company would “own that scan, their image, their likeness, and be able to use it for the rest of eternity in any project they want with no consent and no compensation.”
