PenguinTD , to gaming in 8BitDo stuffed 16 buttons into its hand-crampingly small Micro controller

My son would love this when he was 3yo. Now he is 7yo where DualSense is a bit too big while the his hori switch wired controller is getting worse.(buttons become a bit sticky) there should be official controllers for the 4-9yo range.

aperson ,

So, what you want is almost any other 8bitdo controller that they sell. They come in a range of sizes.

PenguinTD ,

I did check and does have a target in mind if his current controller not up to the task. But is seems hard to get a ps5 compatible one, so I will just settle with the switch variation.

MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown , (edited )

Kids are sticky. lol.
Crack that hori open and clean it. The top shell and button caps can be washed in the sink if they’re just plastic. That’s probably where most of the sticky is.

PenguinTD ,

Yeah, it’s over warranty anyway so I might do that. :)

Ilikecheese , to gaming in 8BitDo stuffed 16 buttons into its hand-crampingly small Micro controller

I just don’t know why they have to go with such weird colors for this and the zero. I’d take black, white, grey, or even an actual red or blue or really any other primary color over these pastel offerings. I have almost no use for one of these but if it was offered in a normal color, I’d order one right away.

Mugmoor ,
@Mugmoor@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Paint or Nail Polish will solve that problem.

rnd ,

IIRC these are the initial colors of the Nintendo Switch Lite. Previously 8bitdo’s controllers were built to look very much like (modernized versions of) Nintendo controllers - like the SN30 Pro and the SF30 Pro looked very much like the SNES/SFC controllers with extra shoulder buttons and analog sticks – but these days they are a bit more careful about potentially infringing on Nintendo’s intellectual property and instead just borrow color schemes.

It's so cute!

I like how 8Bitdo makes both conventional controllers with pro player features (think 8Bitdo Ultimate) and experimental ones like this. Their 8bitdo Lite was less cumbersome than Micro, but had dual D-pads in place of analog sticks as an experiment.

theangriestbird ,

right! i don’t really understand who is buying this, but i appreciate that they experiment with these products that have at most a niche audience. Some toddler out there is stoked about this controller.

blindsight ,

Some people like to keep a tiny controller like this in a purse, small backpack, or pocket to game on the go. I don’t think many people use this at home.

Jaccident ,

Also, children.

Natanael ,

The key mapping thing might be the most useful part, because it can essentially become a small multipurpose remote control

brsrklf ,

I know it’s not the most experimental thing they do, but I’m still grateful for the simple SNES-shaped controllers with just the added analog sticks and triggers. This form factor is still one of my favorites. Button placement is perfect, plus they’re light and compact.

Stuff like this is so scary because our stupid county usually follows your stupid, with 3 to 5 years delay.

arefx , to technology in Amazon begins rolling out AI-generated review summaries

Buying from Amazon is such a shitty experience now I don’t understand how anyone still shops on it. Even Walmarts website is just as bad.

XTornado ,

Well I am all ears for alternatives, so far it seems the less shitty.

WereCat , to technology in Xbox adopts an eight-strike suspension policy | Players who strike out won't be able to use Xbox's social or multiplayer features for an entire year.

Oh great… I’m sure this will work perfectly with no issues at all. Like for example a word “French” being censored as a bad word in Age of Empires IV where you can play French so if you want to communicate with people you get censored for no reason…

SomethingBurger ,

Why would the word French be censored? Are Americans so afraid of our superior culture and healthcare that they want to suppress any discussion about it?

AdmiralShat ,

Oh fuck it’s the fr*nch

so, how many hundred trillion times in a row does some have to say the n-word to get a strike? I’m betting it’s pretty high…

if MS were serious about making its online spaces safe for anyone but the most toxic, vitriolic bigots, they would have kicked them all off decades ago. but they won’t, not ever, because they value their money far more than they dislike what they have to say or the negative attention it attracts.

ThunderingJerboa ,
@ThunderingJerboa@kbin.social avatar

Actually disagree, many of these big corps think these people will just go right back to them even if they get kicked off. Can't say too much but used to "tech support" for one of the big 3 in console space and one of the trainers made mention of this with lines like "They always come back". Sad part is, they weren't wrong. It was such a hard time seeing how some accounts can be basically taken away because someone did something at a moment of panic (chargeback) when there was massive credit card fraud happening and everything on that account disappears even thing you properly paid for unless you paid them back. It is a major reason why the shift to digital online release is horrifying on the console space. The PC market has a similar problem but at least to my knowledge Steam only deactivates your ability buy new things and remove the content that is being contested, its not the best solution but its seems "fair"

I don’t play online games anymore, but this makes me sadly nostalgic for playing Halo 2 on the Xbox at launch back in my late teens and other games on that console. There was shit talking galore and it was amazing.

Problem is I guess now gaming is open to more people, there’s vastly more chance of those who would take it way too far

I haven’t played online since the 360 days so who knows what the experience is like now. Only have time for single player titles nowadays.

keeeener ,

it turned from a bunch of 12-18 year olds screaming “I fucked your mom last night” to a bunch of mid-late 20-30s saying “you stupid n*****” every other sentence…

I have turned off game chat in every game since modern warfare 2019

I miss the 360 era myself, but as someone who enjoys playing competitively in every game, it’s hard to play unless you have a bunch of like minded individuals with you… and I even find that challenging some days

spiritedpause ,

Those 20-30 year olds were probably those same 12-18 year olds lol

echodot ,

One of the things I found really weird is that some games are just fine.

Rai ,

Wow classic was a PERFECT experience for me. Everyone was nice, mild RP on a non RP (but very PvP) server, orderly queues, met some awesome friends, jokes from the mid-2000s. 10/10

Then they did updates and put in MTX and it’s not the same, fuck you WoW classic. It was magical for a year.

Compare their list vs www.privacyguides.org/en/vpn/

It’s kind of funny proton comes on top of both lists.

smolyeet , to technology in The best VPN services | Engadget

I will have to suggest ovpn. Minus it being slightly more difficult to search issues because it’s too similar to openvpn , I’ve been super happy with it for my use case. I ended up choosing them over mullvad because of the port forwarding issue.
