You’re not the only one. Sad times, although I’m probably keep it with the bump. I was using another service for hi-rez, but gonna be canceling and just moving back to YT Music. Moved off in the first place because the UI is kinda ass (still is for the most part).
And that my work center, for the longest time, blocked YT from COVID to limit bandwidth for people that got to work from home. Luckily it’s not anymore. So just had to pay a service to get all of my liked songs over.
These services won’t survive Web 3.0. Interest rates are squeezing them and their only way to pivot is making their user experience worse. It’s a double edged sword for them and the rest of Web 2.0. Change is coming.
If you’re just a bit tech savvy and don’t use your tv as your primary YouTube player then it’s reasonably easy to avoid ads and download stuff on YouTube no matter if you’re on Android, PC, or even iOS (yes without jailbreak).
I pay for it since I use it pretty often on my tv. I’ve gotten rid of other subscriptions to cover the cost. I use YouTube fairly often. My kid watches it on tv and I didn’t want him inundated with ads.
I feel like they forced me to pay though. I’d put on a show for my kid and 3 minutes in, there would be a 2 hour ad that played something completely different and pushed bullshit ads in front of him. I couldn’t subject him to that and there really isn’t an alternative.
Count me in on the group. Have been a family subscriber for awhile. Daughter is 7 and autistic so when an ad pops up she always installs the games then they are horrible and piss her off or she wants me to spend money on it because they force it down your throat. Easier to just give Google some money and not have to deal with it.
They patched it a while ago on the webos and I lost the app with an update (either the TV updated itself or someone pressed ok when it prompted). Is there any new way to do so?
I cancelled Netflix last month and had only kept it that long for family members.
After cancelling, I got a welcome back email because they’re apparently happy to let anyone logged in reactivate the subscription…
So I contacted them again to cancel, get a refund and ask what happened.
Then I decided I wanted to remove my card details from the account, but apparently you can only do that by contacting support…
So they think it’s okay to let anyone restart the subscription from a TV without entering a password, but they’ll make you contact support to remove card details…
Only if you plan to never do business with them ever again. I did that for a ps4 game on the PlayStation store that didn’t work with no refunds, and Sony locked down my account until I paid them that money. Pretty sure they warned that next time they won’t be so nice. Pretty fucked up.
Just about everywhere does that. People love throwing around the charge back option on the internet but it often fucked you over. Some companies use 3rd party payment processors so it can not only ban you from the company you charged back but also anything else using that processor.
Only time I ever did a chargeback like that was from a health app with virtual doctor visit. App was so bad that I wasn’t able to communicate with the person due to crashes every time you type a letter and attachments crashing that they left the call. Took like 4 months but my bank sided with me. Fortunately if they ban me from that app I don’t think much is lost lol
Yeah doing a charge back is a last resort and should only be used when you’ve actually been screwed over and you don’t mind the account/service that you’re doing the charge back against being permanently banned.
I honestly can’t remember the exact situation, but I believe it was related to mistakenly buying something that was an add-on or dlc for a game I didn’t own, thinking it was a bundle with the game AND the add-on. It may even have been my fault, though it was certainly misleading.
But it was about $13 on an account that has spent literally thousands. They blocked my account and I couldn’t connect to their network with my ps4/ps5 until I bought ~$13 in PlayStation store credit and added it to my account.
Great way to treat a loyal customer. It’s almost like they know very well that they have all the power in this dynamic, and that I wasn’t going to give up thousands of dollars in games over 13 bucks.
When they get a customer locked in like that, they know they can get away with anything, and they do.
You can call it what you want, but it’s not unethical. I’m not even sure what they did would even be legal in Europe
I only kept the game, because they have no mechanism for returning it. I didn’t want the game.
You’re also ignoring the power dynamic here. The consumer has zero power in situations like this. A charge back is one of the few tools we have to try to avoid being taken advantage by corporations.

Any “power dynamic” is not the point. You bought something and then tried to circumvent it to get your money back while keeping the content.
Does Sony’s refund policy suck? Yep, it does.
Is what you did essentially stealing? Also yes.
Doing chargebacks is a common scam btw. People will buy something, get the item or service, then do a charge back to get their money back, with the bank/provider doing it and then putting the burden on the retailer to prove that the person got what they paid for, which is often impossible.
Think about it like buying something on eBay, getting it, then asking ebay for your money back saying that you never received the item.

It doesn’t matter that “you” in this case is the owner of the CC and their mother. “You” purchased a month of netflix and got it.
And on the off chance your credit card company DID just give you the money back and penalize netflix without asking any questions? Then this becomes fraud and netflix have good lawyers AND would love to put the fear of god into account sharers.

Eh, I’ll very thoroughly look up customer reviews outside amazon before buying anything from Asus. I have a GL702 laptop that heats up like a fucking stove, has the flimsiest cooling system and, to top it off, causes intense screen tearing when running hot. I keep expecting the screen to die from excessive heat exposure any time I’m playing.
I recently bought an Asus router that just stops working for no good reason. Looked up the issue and apparently they’ve known about it for a while but have not fixed it.
The default software is kind of shitty and buggy. I flashed my Asus with Tomato. See if your router is supported by FreshTomato for example, it can really make a huge difference in stability and features.
I have the same model. It crashes all the time due to some kind of cpu bug. Also sleep mode stopped working after linux kernel 5.10. Asus, never again.
Oh yeah, reminds me that you can’t spin the fans to the max (~10kRPM) under linux. I had to download a package off github, asus-fan-control, to make it stop frying itself
I use NBFC for that and never had any problem with the fans. They’re probably the best working part of that system - at least you can always reliably hear them! This thing is loud af.
It’s possible. I have an older S46C ultrabook from 2012 and the fella still runs good. The downside is that the GPU sits on the left of the mouse touchpad, so your left wrist will feel the heat if you play certain games
Specially the part about him not doing it for money. He was just intellectually curious and wanted to see if he could do it. Same reason a lot of us enjoy programming at home.
What do you need an announcement for? They’ll have informed the affected subscribers by mail, as they always do, and adjusted the prices on the sign-up page. Who else needs to be informed? I don’t really give a shot about the pricing of a service I don’t use.
Is there any alternative on Xbox? I kinda doubt it. I have premium mainly because that’s where I watch it. Getting sick of every tech company shoving their fingers in my purse though
