A lot of good tech came out of Bell Labs back in the day, including Unix, which eventually led to Linux. Nokia used to make solid hardware. I wonder if there’s anything great left in these organizations.
In 1964, David Todd Wilkinson and Peter Roll, Dicke's colleagues at Princeton University, began constructing a Dicke radiometer to measure the cosmic microwave background.[29] In 1964, Arno Penzias and Robert Woodrow Wilson at the Crawford Hill location of Bell Telephone Laboratories in nearby Holmdel Township, New Jersey had built a Dicke radiometer that they intended to use for radio astronomy and satellite communication experiments.[27] On 20 May 1964 they made their first measurement clearly showing the presence of the microwave background,[30] with their instrument having an excess 4.2K antenna temperature which they could not account for. After receiving a telephone call from Crawford Hill, Dicke said "Boys, we've been scooped."[2][31][32] A meeting between the Princeton and Crawford Hill groups determined that the antenna temperature was indeed due to the microwave background. Penzias and Wilson received the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics for their discovery.[33]
I fear their business model is just suing everyone over patents now. Many of their suits have been cited as holding telecommunications methods hostage without negotiating fair use licensing fees.
I was genuinely taken aback at how much the article focused on interpersonal relationships and gender. I am much more familiar with the concept in bureaucracy the way the post teased it.
To be fair, it’s a short Wikipedia article that really only glosses over the concept, but there’s lots of other articles on it online, including if I remember correctly a Psychology Today article.
The flood of new users overwhelmed the existing culture for online forums and the ability to enforce existing norms.
That’s not really true, in hindsight.
The real problem was that the tools for enforcing existing norms and protecting forum culture didn’t exist yet. Look around today, though, and you can certainly find forums and boards and other online spaces where a distinct culture exists and its norms are enforced.
Saw a chiropractor because I was starting to wake up with back pain every morning. Bought into something like a 3 month, twice per week program because the loss of sleep was really bad and he said he was pretty sure it would help.
After 3 months, I was still having a lot of difficulty. After an adjustment I’d be fine the next night but it would come right back.
So I decided to just go buy a high end new mattress. Boom. Every night after was a no-pain night. Never went back to the chiro.
This. Go buy three different pillows and experiment to discover which one gives you the best sleep. It’s cheaper that one trip to the chiro and will more likely yield long term results…
I gave up editing as a hobby when others got really pissy with me when I said that just having a newspaper mention a restaurant did not make the restaurant notable.
I love me some Debs. Dude was righteous as hell, and would have certainly received my vote had I been alive. Check out some of his quotes: en.m.wikiquote.org/wiki/Eugene_V._Debs
In a Digimon game on the switch there’s a level called Kowloon. It is represented as what is described here and I’m grateful to have learned the real world connection
You talking about Cyber Sleuth? It’s available on PC, PS4, Vita (which I think is where it first launched), along with the switch you mentioned.
Please be aware that plenty of games on the switch are actually multiplatform. We don’t want people not checking out a game because they think it’s only on the switch.
We don’t want people not checking out a game because they think it’s only on the switch.
We? Is there some secret Game Reccomendation Governing Body in charge of how to recommend something properly?
If someone wants to play a game, it’s on them to research the game and how they can play it on their own consoles. It’s unfair to put the responsibility on the recommender for knowing every single possible platform a game could be played on.
I appreciate that you commented and provided extra information for other potential players. But IMO, your tone implies that OP provided this recommendation incorrectly, which I don’t think is justified.
