Yeah he’s known for rage firing people. Also not related but as a child he was pushed down a flight of stairs for making a (supposedly) insensitive joke to a kid who lost his dad to suicide.
Rage firing at his own companies is bad enough, but he was trying to get people fired from completely unrelated companies for their tweets about Tesla.
Back in 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk actively monitored Twitter for tweets containing the hashtag $TSLA, often used by Tesla short-sellers. Musk would reach out to executives at companies to investigate employees who were potentially publishing negative tweets about his electric vehicle company.
During that time, Musk reportedly emailed former Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess in July 2018, questioning whether one of Diess’s employees was using Twitter to criticize Tesla anonymously. Business Insider later reported that Volkswagen determined the tweets were posted by the employee’s brother.
Musk also allegedly texted Lawrence Fossi’s employer. According to the WSJ, on July 23, 2018, Musk sent a text to the top executive at Fossi’s company, asking the boss whether he knew his employee, known on Twitter as Montana Skeptic, “was obsessively trashing Tesla via a pseudonym,” as disclosed in the report.
Following the incident, Fossi voluntarily deactivated his Twitter account and ceased writing for Seeking Alpha. Expressing his surprise at the extent to which Musk would go to quash criticism, Fossi commented, “I’m a nobody and he calls my employer?”
So that’s what makes you a billionaire. You need to find talking to people in a shitty way rejuvenating. Luck obviously but you also got to be really excited to talk to people about how they need to do what you want all time.
How much do you wanna bet that he won’t, save for a select couple of cases that they’ll publicise the ever living shit out of before quietly never speaking of it again
Anyone know what the author of the article means at the end of this paragraph:
“Following recent above-average rainfall in Paris, the water quality in the Seine has remained below acceptable standards for safeguarding swimmers’ health,” read a statemeold old nt.>
I mean the bolded part (bolded to highlight) Is it just a typo?
The Philippine Coast Guard has accused its Chinese counterpart of firing water cannon at its vessels and blocking them in the disputed South China Sea.
It said this happened when its ship was escorting boats carrying supplies for Filipino soldiers stationed on one of the contested Spratly Islands.
In a statement, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the incident happened on Saturday as its vessels were heading to Second Thomas Shoal in the Spratly Islands.
Access to these waters is key to defending Taiwan at a time when China’s claims over the self-governed island have intensified.
The waterways also host $5tn (£4tn) of global trade every year, raising concerns that Beijing’s increasing footprint could restrict commerce.
I know Elon Twitler is a giga troll but now he's just taking the piss. He is probably going to fund his own legal bills against the unfairly terminated devs of the company he had to be forced to purchase.
It’s simple: he spoke to an undercurrent of emotional resentment that a lot of people had and gave them permission to feel like they were good people (or at least not bad people) for feeling that way. Every seemingly logical explanation that the right twists into place in hindsight is only a justification for that gut reaction.
They want to feel good for having xenophobic, nationalist feelings. He gave them permission and said they were the good guys and everyone who disagrees is wrong. They only care about the facts that back up that perspective, everything else is conveniently discarded to defend their collective ego. 45’s narcissism helps him win this crowd because he’s been ignoring all inconvenient facts his whole life, and whenever that habit catches up with him he always has a scapegoat or 12 ready to go.
the emotional resentment comes from the perpetual victim mentality. the only way their way of life works is if they are constantly under attack by a villain of the week thats simultaneously incompetent and feeble but also sadistic and near unstoppable.
Yeah I guess there’s also underlying issues of feeling lost and insignificant in a complex world. Add to that economic struggle and a lacking class awareness and cognitive dissonance does the rest.
It doesn’t hurt his popularity with his supporters that so many hate him, it fits with the overall narrative of that constituency that people want them silenced.
You can see this is in how many conservatives complain about cancel culture silencing them, they use phrases like “you can’t say anything anymore” enmass on social media and run dozens of media publications and TV about how their voices are being silenced.
The irony of all this is ignored in the fury.
To really understand trump’s popularity you need to see him as a symptom not a cause. People who grew up without exposure to difference, in environments where difference was not tolerated, are feeling upset that the differences are being accepted.
They always believed the narrative that those differences just didn’t exist in the past and so the can see a rapid change in the world which they see as the destruction of the world they know.
Had they known that differences were their all along, only being kept out of sight, they’d know this isn’t a slide towards anything, it’s just a recognition of everything that was always already there.
the word ‘boats’ was used for their vessel, id imagine it is not something cannon-capable. /s
on a more serious note, Chinese vessels have also been reported to harass Philippine fishermen (who obviously cannot fire back. and sadly, were told to shut up by the Chinese-loving previous administration)
