I use Podcast Addict and have recently noticed location-based ads in my podcasts. Adds that are local to my large town / small city. The app doesn't have location permissions, so how are the podcasts embedding localized ads?
The ones listed in the wiki are either very troublesome or have dead links. Do ya’ll know any good ddl sites or trackers for them?
This is a story from my dad....
When posting a video url on Lemmy, is there any way to have the post display a picture of the video thumbnail? It would look so much better than gray squares with an outlink arrow in the corner.
The more that content on the web is “locked down” with more stringent API requests and identity verification, e.g. Twitter, the more I wonder if I should be archiving every single HTTP request my browser makes. Or, rather, I wonder if in the future there will be an Archive Team style decentralized network of hoarders who, as...
Hello comrades! I figured I might have a bit more scientific responses here than Reddit, or maybe the same. So, for the longest damn time, I was really into adaptogenic teas, it gave me a bit of a buzz but in a good way. More focused I should say. I also have autism, and I tried a cordyceps tea and I didn’t feel as autistic...
Can’t believe I ignored this series for years. The first game has aged a bit since it was released in 2011, and the sequel in 2019 has held up and is loads of fun....
Thought of this in the shower this morning, if anyone has an answer I'd be very interested!

It seems extremely unsafe to use one with an insecure grip
Part of the latest migration wave. Something I realized when looking for communities on google is that “lemmy community” is super clumsy.

It's over. Feels like losing an old friend. Let's morn the loss of our old community for a few days, remember that best of post and conversations, and more forward. This was our Summer "Eternal September" moment. Make this new home vibrant, share you passions, make closer friends, and keep coming back. Things are weird, so is...
I’m using Liftoff but also checked out Connect and am trying to figure this out. (It took me multiple tries just to create an account so bear with me!). How can I find popular communities? I found a master list but it was in alphabetical order and wouldn’t let me sort by subscriber count.
I can’t recall which exact thread it was, but I was reading a book recommendation thread and the book “A Year in the Life Of Ancient Greece” by Philip Matyszak was recommended. I enjoyed learning about ancient Greece in the past and this seemed manageable (under 300 pages), so I read it over the course of this last week....
Is this a Lemmy thing or a Thunder thing? This is just a small sample. These posts show up another 5 or 6 times...
With the recent Reddit stuff and YouTube stuff, I realized I’ve been using numerous third party apps or services. The question I have is why the decision and how such decisions would really benefit the company. As an random user, should I be worried about it or even go back to the official Apps just in case the third-party...
In an effort to try and be mindful of storage usage on instances I’m posting to, I’d prefer to host images externally and link to them....

We’re about to enter another Reddit mass migration phase starting tonight. We’ve already attracted the users most actively engaged with the protests and Reddit’s changes—users who are driven enough to put in the effort to grow the Fediverse....
