I’d like to travel to Linda Nagata’s Inverted Frontier universe. It’s a far future post human universe with lots of mysteries to explore.

No, communists do not see AI as the enemy. Communists see the capitalist system as the enemy. We’re all for technological progress as long as technology is publicly owned.

Mastodon has millions of users now, and it’s a whole ecosystem of sites that have been running on user donations for many years now. The whole idea behind federation is that it’s distributed. With Reddit or X, all the users are on the same site, so a single host has to be able to deal with that volume. However, with distributed systems no single server needs to grow too big. Most servers have a few thousand users on them, and hosting costs for that are pretty reasonable. Only a small percentage of the users have to chip in to keep things running.

A great read on how things started really getting out of hand with the fall of USSR because at that point neoliberals declared that there is no viable alternative www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/27c/046.html

Mastodon has a far bigger user base and hasn’t died out without ads, why would Lemmy?

Exactly, the only reason people fear automation is due to capitalist relations where people are forced to work in order to live because the purpose of work is to produce further wealth for people who own capital.

However, this problem doesn’t exist in a socialist society where the purpose of work is to produce things everyone needs. If production of these things can be automated then it just means less work and more free time for the people.

yogthos , to asklemmy in What are your thoughts on the latest news about UFO sightings?
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

CIA planning docs show that when they overthrew the Guatemalan president in 1954, they plotted planting “flying saucer” stories to distract the media.

Another declassified study shows the Air Force misled the public in the 1950s about UFOs to conceal the CIA’s spy plane testing.

Just something to think about…
