JFC. It’s almost like Biden is trying really hard to lose the election.

Turn Palestinian kids into dust…to keep prices down. Got it.

Iowa's Christian conservatives follow their faith when voting, and some say it leads them to Trump (apnews.com)

“We thank you for the upcoming election, Lord — or caucus, as we call it in Iowa,” said Hundley, speaking from the sanctuary of his evangelical Christian church in his slight Texas drawl as his parishioners bowed their heads....

Honey, it ain’t you faith leading you there. It’s your racism. It always boils down to that one way or another in America.

How Experts Believe Starvation Is Being Utilized in Gaza (time.com)

Children and adults are coming to hospitals with serious malnutrition, and at the first hint of any infection, they lose weight rapidly, Professor Nick Maynard, a senior surgeon from Oxford University Hospital and the clinical lead of an emergency medical team said in a statement....

Totally not a genocide at all.

Also, where is the report? This link takes you to a page that has a headline, a subheading that duplicates the headline, and body copy that duplicates the headline again. Am I missing something? Are outlets like ABC removing the content from their content these days?

All those resources available to them, and the biggest idea they’ve come up with in the better part of a decade is that dumb face computer.

Calls to reform UN Security Council after US vetoes Gaza ceasefire (www.aljazeera.com)

Calls are growing for the UN Security Council to be reformed after the US became the only member to use its veto power to block a Gaza ceasefire resolution, a move welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The UN chief says he will keep pushing for peace.

xenomor ,

I understand this logic and I’ve made this argument in the past. As time goes on, however, I’m coming to the understanding that the major thing the UN actually provides is deniability. It creates an aura of accountability without actually accomplishing it. The pageantry of rhetoric around the UN’s mission would have us believe that merely shining light on the wrongdoing of powerful nations will lead to some kind of justice. It never does. It actually breeds complacency in the same way that ranting about politics online does. You feel like you are changing something, but you aren’t. I think we need something like the UN, but the UN as currently constructed is fatally flawed and may be making things actively worse in some important ways.

FBI director warns senators he sees ‘blinking lights everywhere’ on threats against the US (www.cnn.com)

FBI Director Christopher Wray said Tuesday he has never seen a time during his decades-long career when so many threats against the US were all as elevated as they are now, warning senators he sees “blinking lights everywhere.”...

xenomor ,

I 100% expect that such warnings will motivate the US to further reign in freedoms and discriminate against specific ethnic groups rather that spark any meaningful introspection about the policies that are the fundamental cause of such threats.

xenomor ,

I don’t know enough about why the board did this, or what Altman was up to, to form a meaningful opinion about what happened. However, I do know that anything that empowers Microsoft in this industry is a bad thing. Microsoft is a bad actor in every regard and will always behave in ways that ultimately produce worse products than we would get otherwise. Given the potential implications of these technologies, and all the reasons to not trust Microsoft to protect public interests, this news is terrible.

xenomor ,

How about they take meaningful action legitimize Palestinian existence within Israel, end the apartheid and work out a plan for restitution? That would evaporate any shreds of support for Hamas nearly overnight and make it significantly easier to locate, and bring the terrorists to justice. Oh, and they could try to not actively promote and fund Hamas. That method would also have the side benefit of a lot fewer dead babies.

xenomor ,

After I realized that I fell for the lies that pushed us into Iraq (the second time) I was determined to educate any kids I might eventually have about why they should never trust and never join the US military. I then proceeded to do that. To be clear, my issue has less to do with the military itself than the civilian leadership.

xenomor ,

I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but why on earth would anyone trust what a fascist government says about anything? Israel has been an unrelentingly bad actor and every single bit of coverage should acknowledge that.

xenomor ,

If the Biden administration really wanted this, they wouldn’t ‘call for’ it. They would demand it and coerce those fascist fucks to comply. This is theater. It provides Biden a talking point to claim that he isn’t quite as ghoulish as a few Americans are starting to realize that he is.

xenomor , (edited )

If the US helps get people out of Gaza, and Israel eventually blocks their return, then the US has directly participated in ethnic cleansing. I mean, I think we are already culpable in Israel’s multifaceted war crime factory, but this is a remarkable escalation of that policy. I suppose that I’d have more respect for the US if it didn’t try to cloak its support of apartheid and genocide in feel good bullshit rhetoric like “democracy” and “defense” and “humanitarian pause”. In reality Israel is fascist ethnostate, this is a genocide, and we are facilitating ethnic cleansing. The Biden administration is monstrous.

xenomor , (edited )

How about restraining Israel so they aren’t bombing in such a dangerous manner. How about acting as a mediator to get the hostages released? How about pushing Israel to stop its self destructive and inhuman behavior including: settlements, occupation, apartheid, and actively promoting Hamas. How about not pushing to make arms sales to Israel secret. How about securing public assurances that refugees will be able to return. I don’t understand why these things are so exotic and difficult to imagine for so many people.

Over 8,000 rockets fired, 250,000 Israelis evacuate from their homes: IDF (www.business-standard.com)

The Israel Defence Force on Friday stated that since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, more than 8000 rockets have been fired at Israel, and 2,50,000 Israeli civilians have been evacuated from their homes. In a post shared by the IDF on X, it stressed, “Israel is still under fire”, adding that over 300 rockets are fired at...

Perhaps Israel could make its ‘defensive’ operation more efficient by, oh let’s say, building a series of showers and ovens in northern Gaza. I mean, they’ve already got the concentration camp part down. I bet the US would gladly supply the zyklon b.

xenomor ,

Yes. Facilitating a theocratic ethnostate in its racist, genocidal ethnic cleansing rampage is a really efficient way to make a lot of people, including Americans less safe.

xenomor ,

What? Someone downloaded photos that people willingly uploaded to a public network? You don’t say.

xenomor ,

He literally sounds like all those terrorist religious zealots that I was told were such a threat for bringing sharia law to ‘the homeland’ after 9/11. How long will rational thinkers have to suffer under the weight of ignorant frauds like Netanyahu and their magic fan fictions. What a absolute sick joke of an ideology.

Anti-Semitic incidents in US up about 400% since Israel-Hamas war began: Report (www.straitstimes.com)

Antisemitic incidents in the United States rose by about 400% in slightly over two weeks since war broke out in the Middle East after Palestinian Islamist group Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, advocacy group Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said Wednesday. Read more at straitstimes.com.

xenomor ,

One thing I’ve learned in the last two weeks is just what a dishonest actor the ADL is. They have almost no credibility as far as I’m concerned anymore. What a disservice to Jewish people.

xenomor ,

Thoughts and prayers.

Am I doing it right?

xenomor ,

Fascists are always the biggest cowards in any given situation. Because of this insecurity, they have to restrict speech, restrict movement, manufacture realities, bully their citizens, bully their partners, obfuscate, gaslight, and play the victim card over and over again to advance their awful goals. In every respect, Israel is a comically evil, insecure and dishonest entity. Actual democracies, like what the US keeps pretending Israel is, don’t need to hide their actions and berate the world community like this.

Going on the record here to say that settlers are not civilians, full stop.

Narwhal just went behind the paywhal for me to today. So, I guess I’m finally done with Reddit now? I’ve been in there at least 14 years. It’s just wild to me that I lost Twitter and Reddit after so much time.

xenomor ,

And there you can see the reality of US policy. Biden can speak all the nice words about human dignity, the value of freedom, and the right of self determination, but they are all hollow sentiments. Your moral worth has nothing to do with what is in your heart. The only thing that matters is your behavior. Likewise, the only thing that states should be judged on is their behavior. As a US citizen, it is heartbreaking to again witness the depravity of my own nation. It’s made doubly difficult when we have to endure the endless parade of false moralizing from this administration, and the one before that, and the one before that, on and on and on.

xenomor ,

Ah yes. Surely the secret plan will work this time.

xenomor ,

Of course. With no international consequences, and the active support of the US, why would they limit their ethnic cleansing to just one colony. If you’re already on board with apartheid, and genocide, this is a no brainer.

Microsoft is preparing to bring on Amazon as a customer of its 365 cloud tools in a $1 billion megadeal, according to an internal document (www.businessinsider.com)

Microsoft is preparing to bring on Amazon as a customer of its 365 cloud tools in a $1 billion megadeal, according to an internal document::Preparations for this huge cloud software deal mark a significant shift in the relationship between the two technology giants.

US defense secretary is in Israel to meet with its leaders and see America’s security assistance (apnews.com)

S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is in Israel on Friday for meetings with senior government leaders and to see firsthand some of the U.S. weapons and security assistance that Washington rapidly delivered to Israel in the first week of its war with the militant Hamas group....

xenomor ,

The US, serving its role as the referee of a genocide. I will never forgive the actively evil position that the Biden administration has taken.

xenomor ,

Given how closely the US and the Biden administration has aligned itself with the Israel, how rapidly they moved the carrier group into position, and how gleefully and passionately they rushed to Netanyahu‘s side to express complete solidarity, I can only assume that the US is complicit in this and every other war crime taking place.

xenomor ,

They don’t care if it gets out or not. This is propaganda designed to portray them as being responsible and provide some deniability once history has a chance to evaluate their atrocities. Note that the IDF briefing was done in English.

xenomor ,

I think it’s because there’s a lot of sensitivity about misinformation, which is typical in early war situations. This story is highly emotionally triggering in all the same ways that previously debunked propaganda pieces have been. Specifically, it is reminiscent of the ‘babies getting pulled out of incubators’ story that was instrumental in fomenting popular support the first US war in Iraq. It was later discovered to be complete fiction. That is not to claim that this story is untrue, but considering all the possibilities is very emotionally draining.

U.S. is sending a carrier strike group closer to Israel and will begin supplying munitions starting today (www.nbcnews.com)

The U.S. military is moving an aircraft carrier strike group and military aircraft closer to Israel as a show of support, and will also begin supplying Israel with munitions and other military supplies immediately, said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin....

xenomor ,

Uh oh. Does anyone know of Israel has another ‘sink a US Navy ship and get out of jail free’ card?

xenomor ,

The reason that Israel doesn’t go full speed on genocide is the same reason why they never actually pursue peace. That is, the ruling authority there benefits from having a persistent threat. They get to maintain and build power and wealth while genociding in a slow enough fashion to not raise a critical mass of objections from their benefactors in the United States.

xenomor ,

It should be illegal for entities like BBC to do this. Copyright is meant to be a temporary, limited construct that carves out an opportunity for creators to profit from their works. It is not perpetual legal dominion over specific ideas. Entities that harvest content to train LLMs should pay for access like everyone else, but after that, they can use the information they learn however they see fit. Now, if their product plagiarizes, or doesn’t properly attribute authorship, that is a problem. But it’s a different issue from what the BBC is fighting here.

I think there are some content creators that believe they are owed royalties if you even think about a piece they wrote or drew. That is, of course, absurd in terms of human minds. It’s also absurd in terms of other kinds of minds.

xenomor ,

Working conditions in this industry are not great. The turnover rate can reach 80% sometimes. It can be a difficult, stressful and low paid job that few people enjoy. At the same time, the demand for this work keeps increasing as more and more of consumer activity shifts online and remote. It seems to me that the technology may be a net benefit in this case. The public and its regulatory authority should, however, keep a close eye on developments to make sure humans are not left behind.

xenomor ,

Every time I read a new story about another example of this, I struggle to understand why people are getting outraged. Did you have some expectation of privacy when you published your thing to the world-connected network run by profit-seeking corporations?

Tesla spent years building a brand identity that is intimately woven together with Musk. It’s damaged goods now as far as I’m concerned. Every time I encounter one of its products I think about it. It wasn’t too long ago when I was eagerly following product updates in the hopes of eventually buying a car power wall or that solar roof system. I was enthusiastic about rationalizing away the poor build quality and terrible customer support. Now, I would never buy a thing from them and I’m happy to pass judgement on anyone who does. $tslaq
