Just something funny: First time I donated to archive.org my bank blocked my card due to being a “suspicious payment”.
I had to physically go to the bank because due to security reasons I couldn’t unblock it in internet banking.
The high security looked like this:
“Hello. You blocked my card due to suspicious payment.”
“OK, what’s your name”
“[name]”
“I see. Did you make that payment?”
“Yes.”
“OK, I’ll send an e-mail to management. It should be unblocked in a few hours. Have a nice day.”
“Bye.”

They didn’t want to see my ID card, not even the debit card. Nor sign anything. Just and only hear my name. “Security”.

user224 , to android in When the fuck did a mobile hotspot become something you have to pay extra for?

I have a different idea that wouldn’t require root nor any special setup. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately in this case, I have no way to test it.

My idea:

  1. Install Android proxy server from (unfortunately) Play Store
  2. Start hotspot on the other device
  3. Connect your phone to the hotspot
  4. Find your IP address on the network you just connected to (the hotspot on other device) - it should be in WiFi settings, when you click on more details on the connection. Alternatively you could find it in output of ip a in Termux.
  5. Open Android Proxy Server app and optionally adjust settings to your liking. (IP address to bind to - should be your phone’s on the hotspot, port, authentication)
  6. Enable the proxy server that you want to use. If you’re connected through VPN, it will go through it. I use HTTP/HTTPS proxy.
  7. Connect to the proxy server on your other device using your phone’s IP and the appropriate port. In Firefox go to settings, scroll down, click on network setup.

I use this to circumvent the 1 device limit of free ProtonVPN. Also on school network (with authentication enabled) to go through VPN and use NextDNS.

Welp, not if you used to rip from YouTube. And the files ripped from Deezer have wrong year most of the time anyway because they used it for file creation date.

And when my music touches my computer it’s only because I am backing it up (as I should be doing). The only correct information is on CD rip of “The very best of Louis Armstrong” because I put that in myself using Kid3.

user224 , to linuxmemes in KDE Connect is the best! Also why isn't the app called KDE Konnekt 🤣

Especially the file sharing for me. I was previously using USB cable, but during large transfers it tends to just randomly disconnect (thanks MTP). Over WiFi I get faster transfer speeds and it doesn’t keep disconnecting.

Although yes, theoretically I could move .tar archive or individual files over WiFi using netcat and Termux, but that’s not the most elegant solution. Also for some reason netcat is somewhat broken on Manjaro. Ok, the issue isn’t with nc. Ok (2) it is netcat. I just added a 2nd layer of issues that made me think it’s not.

Edit 3: Ok. MAYBE netcat. I can see incoming connection in Wireshark and it sends back TCP RST. Edit 4: Tried with UDP, I can see the received text in Wireshark, netcat drank methanol.

Mine is Artist name - Song name [(Version)] (Year)[(Bitrate)]

Version is optional. It’s stuff like Radio edit, remastered, extended, etc.
Bitrate is optional as I switched to FLAC and rarely need to use MP3.
The worst one I have is something from Beatles in 32kbps HE-AAC at 22.5kHz SR with name written in Chinese. It is one of the oldest files I have.

This is soft touch plastic. It is a plastic with rubberized coating which unfortunately starts to melt after some time. When that happens, you can just remove the coating with isopropyl alcohol and paper towel to get just regular shiny plastic.
