Still studying, but I often see people think that WiFi = Internet.

Thankfully, some of them at least acknowledge existence of “Exclamation mark WiFi”.

(I am not a furry, but I’ll try my best to explain what I know.)

People who really like anthropomorphic animals (animals with human features).

Generally what I’ve heard from others is “If you want to be a furry, you’re a furry.”, so the following are not requirements.

Most have a “fursona”. It is an animal character that sort of represents you. Like your own personal mascot.
It may be whatever color and specie you like. Even a hybrid between species. A person can have multiple fursonas.

Generally furries like to draw these characters, or even some more generic ones like for example Nick Wilde from Zootopia.
Some furry artists accept drawing commissions, i.e.: you can pay someone to draw your character.

Some even have fursuits. That is an expensive suit of your fursona, so you can fully be your own private mascot. By expensive, I mean multiple thousands (yes, freedom currency). Of course, it’s made by people, and you are people. DIY is also an option, and if you get skillful enough… money. Though it doesn’t have to be a fullsuit. It could be head-only or partial (head, paws, feetpaws, tail). Also digitigrade suits are usually more expensive than plantigrade, but let’s not get too far.

Not sure if I gave any good explanation, but certainly better than that episode of CSI xD.

user224 , to asklemmy in Android users, what's stopping you from switching to an iPhone?
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Plenty of useful apps that cannot run on iOS. Mostly Termux and SDR-related apps (rtl_tcp server, SDR++, SatDump, Welle.io, SDRAngel, Dump1090,…)

I can run full-on desktop in Termux and access it via VNC server. I can also access it via SSH server. I can run a web server, HTTP proxy server, Kiwix server, Navidrome server, Jellyfin server, port-forward using socat. And that’s just what I use or tried. In the past there was someone on Reddit running a public BBS server on an Android phone in Termux.

There’s likely many other apps I use not available on iOS.

So if I’ll be switching to a different platform, maybe PinePhone running Arch Linux with Plasma mobile? Probably only as a secondary phone for now though.

iPhones are too close to feature phones for me. Best thing they can run is probably a browser.

Doesn’t work everywhere though.

Another functional keyword I found is “Credit card chargeback”. That can get me to talk to a human on AliExpress for example.

  1. I am a cheapskate
  2. I am too lazy to replace it (one of those modern hard to open laptops)
  3. I am too lazy to test and clone a 1TB (or more) drive

I actually used an SSD before with an old laptop, but that only required removing 2 screws. As for cleaning out dust, I don’t use it much anyway, mainly because I don’t want to deal with cracking this open.

I am just looking at getting some used ThinkPad.
But anyway, most stuff can be done on a smartphone. On the other hand, I already killed 1 motherboard likely due to overheating while re-encoding videos to AV1 in Termux. It was replaced under warranty both times though. The second time it was just some issue with communicating with cameras. Yeah, I am on this phone’s 3rd motherboard.

But anyway, it’s a laptop. I reboot it like once a month when updating, so it’s not a big deal.
