Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

That’s barely more than a slap on the wrist. The system is rotten.

San Jose woman loses limbs after battling bacterial infection from tilapia (www.kron4.com)

There’s a warning about a dangerous bacteria that might have infected a local woman who’s still recovering after nearly two months in the hospital. An online fundraising effort says she contracted the bacterial infection after eating fish and is now a quadruple amputee....

New nightmare unlocked.

…And I’m having fish for dinner tonight. That fish is getting cooked ‘till its crispy.

“I simply fell short of my values”: Lauren Boebert issues apology after being removed from “Beetlejuice” performance (coloradosun.com)

The Republican congresswoman said “while none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that”

For anyone who for obvious reasons doesn’t want a TMZ article (it was all I saw at the time), here’s an AP article on it.

Seconding Jacob Geller. All his videos are amazing.

I don’t understand how anyone with even partially-functioning eyes didn’t peg it immediately as fake.

New Vaccine Can Completely Reverse Autoimmune Diseases Like Multiple Sclerosis, Type 1 Diabetes, and Crohn’s Disease (scitechdaily.com)

Researchers from Pritzker Molecular Engineering, under the guidance of Prof. Jeffrey Hubbell, demonstrated that their compound can eliminate the autoimmune response linked to multiple sclerosis. Researchers at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) have developed

More work is needed to study Hubbell’s pGal compounds in humans, but initial phase I safety trials have already been carried out in people with celiac disease, an autoimmune disease that is associated with eating wheat, barley, and rye, and phase I safety trials are underway in multiple sclerosis.

Immune systems are wild, and it’s also wild how they can go spectacularly wrong in different ways. Autoimmune diseases run in families, but not necessarily the same disease. My great-aunt has Crohn’s. My dad and big brother both have segmental vitiligo (dad, just on the back of his neck and a shoulder, my brother on one arm), but my immune system decided my thyroid was the enemy. Like. Not fair, body. 🤣

Seriously, tf is going on over there at Unity?

Her cousin is not, and that’s who she was taken from.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Guess what, I can’t do anything about that. That’s literally the article’s headline. Feel free to go to the article itself and comment against “slams” there, where it might actually do something.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

This was the only site that specifically mentioned the “Not for sale” part in the headline. And NBC is a pretty big news source, so I’m not going to ignore it just because some folks get a bug up their butts over an overused word.

And I’ve had people yell at me on here for using “clickbait” headlines and tell me to change the headlines to be less “clickbaity” when they didn’t even read the article in the first place and changing titles to not match the headline is against a lot of news comm/magazine rules.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Dude, look at the comments already talking about slam in headlines instead of rehashing it.

@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Do YOU often go up to complete strangers and poke them in the back while they are working? Or is it only ok when it’s a woman getting poked by a rando?

It’s like when CDPR said everyone could get refunds for CP2077 without talking to the stores first, then were shocked when Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store.

stopthatgirl7 ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

You can just see the panic coming out of Unity.

They thought they’d be able to slip this change through and people would just pay it. They were expecting a big payday, not a storm of bad press and angry people.

@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

It’s more, you gotta let your partners know before you announce something major. The reason Sony had to pull it was because they only allow refunds after a certain point on defective games, and they can’t sell a game they know is defective. So the only way they could do blanket refunds is if the game is labeled defective, which means they can’t sell it. Giving Sony a bit of a heads up might’ve meant they could have changed their policy, which would have been better long run for consumers.
