Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

Woman buying pot from NYC deli maced, dragged by hair, kicked in head by cashier who mistook her for trans (www.nydailynews.com)

A Staten Island woman buying pot from a local deli got into a misunderstanding with the cashier — who ended up macing her, dragging her outside by her hair, kicking her in the head and mistakenly calling her trans.

The misunderstanding was what started the fight (he thought she was haggling for prices, not that she was trying to verify the price of things to make sure she bought the right weed for her friend), not the transphobic attack.

Children’s picture book flagged at Alabama library because author’s last name is ‘Gay’ (www.al.com)

Madison County Public Library administrators were asked to go over a list of potentially "sexually explicit" books to be moved from the children's and young adult section to the adult section. The majority of these books were about the LGBTQ community. At least one was added to the list because the author's last name is Gay.

It’s really not.

Case in point: Report finds few parents are utilizing new Georgia law making it easier to ban books from school libraries

When the law says only parents of current students can challenge books at a school library, almost nobody challenged them. Weird huh.

The thing is…it worked. People training to be doctors stopped going into abortion-related fields, some schools stopped teaching late-term abortion techniques, and it overall became more difficult to get abortions. And now abortions are becoming illegal again in many states. Their side won.
