some_guy , to asklemmy in what is the worst case scenario that can happen at the presidential debate?

Lightning strikes and both candidates die in a horrible freak accident. Oh wait, you asked worst case…

some_guy , to news in 75 tons of illegal fireworks seized in Los Angeles area, largest fireworks bust in California history

Now set them off all at once and give us a show.

some_guy , to news in The Supreme Court rejects a nationwide opioid settlement with OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma

“The unfortunate reality is that the alternative is costly and chaotic legal proceedings in courtrooms across the country,” they said in a statement. “While we are confident that we would prevail in any future litigation given the profound misrepresentations about our families and the opioid crisis, we continue to believe that a swift negotiated agreement to provide billions of dollars for people and communities in need is the best way forward.”

We tried to buy our way out because we’re guilty af, but failed.

I agree with another poster that I’m not sure how I feel about this. If this results in them taking greater responsibility for the harm they’ve done, great. If this ends up letting them off easier, travesty.

some_guy , to news in Progressives on AIPAC’s Defeat of Bowman: “Now We Know How Much It Costs to Buy an Election”

It’s almost as though the wants, needs, opinions, or desires of the people don’t matter. How about that.

Someone please jeer at this asshole when he next has a public appearance. Being bought by foreign interests is the worst kind of selling out.

some_guy , to news in Oklahoma Prepares to Kill Another Man Who Says He’s Innocent

I don’t know about this case, but judges exclude or forbid presentation of evidence for whatever reasons and it’s considered normal. A just system would demand that any and all exculpatory evidence must be heard to prevent wrongful convictions, but that’s not the system we have.

some_guy , to news in Religious leader wants to display Indian scriptures in Louisiana public classrooms

Playing the game like a badass. Also, for anyone who doesn’t know, you can contribute to order these great Ten Commandments posters (the law says they can come by donations, not via state funding).

some_guy , to news in The Supreme Court strips the SEC of a critical enforcement tool in fraud cases

Gerrymandering to fuck is a thing. There was a story yesterday or the day before about the Mayor who was elected in the south and got blocked by the white city planners or whatever they’re called. Sure, courts ruled in his favor, but the article pointed out how Black residents hadn’t been aware that there was an election process for years because mayors kept being appointed without their input.

I’m not saying not to vote. I’m saying that has also been neutralized in places and that’s it’s far from what its idealized state would be.

some_guy , to workreform in Joe Biden is old. So is Donald Trump. So are millions of other American workers

Was reading Wikipedia about a string of serial murders last night. One of the victims was an 81 yo man on the way home from his work. This was in 1973. It’s not a new problem, it’s just worse than before.

some_guy , to memes in This pisses me off so much

When the character that’s “driving” keeps moving the wheel back and forth just a tiny bit at a time.

When two characters look at something off-camera in the distance and stare at different points in space (why didn’t the directory catch that?!).

some_guy , to lemmyshitpost in I will not be taking questions.

This could have saved relationships.

some_guy , to news in The Supreme Court rules that state officials can engage in a little corruption, as a treat

It’s why they got elected.

Used to have a Linux homelab. Finally got Windows experience at a job for some years before moving to my current role at another org. Built a new homelab that’s organized around Windows Server because I’ve spent years managing it but never set it up from scratch. Learning small pitfalls of doing so. Just got VMs on the Win domain the other day; will be focusing on certificates shortly. It’s probably not that interesting to most, but it’s valuable learning for me. I’ll start trying to break in with Kali and similar tools once the infra is all setup.

Who cares? Your being born adjacent to someone doesn’t matter.

some_guy , to news in Texas woman allegedly tried to drown Palestinian-American girl, aged 3

Attacking a toddler for your hateful, bigoted ideas seems like a completely normal way to get people on your side. /s

Asshole. I’m against punitive incarceration. People who attack children due to bigotry should be punished twice as hard as those attacking people who can defend themselves. The lunacy is unreal. I think the threat to society is obvious.

some_guy , to lemmyshitpost in I don't get how people can become depressed, when we live in the century of Fentanyl, easy access to alcohol and amusement arcades.

I also stopped smoking weed because it would trigger the flashbacks.

I had this years ago after a series of bad trips (the common denominator turned out to be the presence of a certain person, then things got better). Anyway, hope you can get through to the other side.
