Americans trying to get new covid vaccine hit insurance snags, face bills (Paywall) (www.washingtonpost.com)

Federal officials promised the new covid shot would be free and covered by insurance, but some Americans have encountered a different reality this week as they tried to get vaccinated, only to be denied coverage or charged up to $200....

The fact this this article is pay walled is chef’s kiss

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh yeah, the Washington Post has it so hard.

Do you think pay wall fees go to the workers? Or ad revenue? As if! They go to the company, and then the company pays the workers less than they are worth. Same as any job.

Think bigger! Imagine a sextbot trained on your own texts and posts and phonecalls and pics and any other data it can harvest, that could impersonate you when you’re too tired from work to be intimate with your s/o - and then imagine them doing the same thing, and now two sextbots are chatting with each other with zero human input.

I’m not ready for the future.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

That sounds like the premise for a whacky romantic comedy - someone has to go on a bunch of dates with strangers because their AI is a flirt, ranging across all ages and body types and genders.

Then in the end the main character realizes their sextbot was the one they were in love with the entire time!

They’re supposed to serve it at a safe temperature, and they usually do.

tbh I’m not sure how they managed to overclock their coffee maker. Did they just heat it up on the stove?

For example with Amazon’s plan here. If you pay this $3.00 to remove ads then you are paying Amazon $3.00 because they added ads.

That’s just a stealth price increase that they can implement without admitting they’re raising prices.

South Korea says it ‘will not stand idly by’ if North Korea receives Russian help on nuclear weapons (www.cnn.com)

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol warned on Wednesday that his country and its allies “will not stand idly by” if North Korea receives Russian help to boost its weapons of mass destruction – just days after the leaders of the two nuclear-armed nations held a closely watched summit....

Combining pay with benefits as a single dollar amount is gibberish.

Why don’t you list the actual hourly wage they’re asking for?

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

They’re the source of all the company’s profits.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

The automakers combine benefits with wages to make the number seem much larger than it actually is, so the workers sound greedy.

Their current wages are around $20/hr. Calling that “$60/hr with benefits” is beyond misleading , it’s fucking disgusting. You can’t pay rent with benefits, fuck off.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Don’t tone police me honey 🙄 when you side with the bosses you become my enemy. Don’t be surprised when I treat you like one.

The demand is to increase the top hourly rate to $47 per hour - so use that number, not the numbers fed to you by the industry. That’s what wages should be if they had kept up with productivity and inflation over the past several decades.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Then I’ll tell you to fuck off and eat my ass as much as I want you fucking class traitor. If you act like an enemy you get treated like one.

Why the fuck are you trying to nickle-and-dime the workers? What’s wrong with you?

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

No, what’s wrong with the world is class traitors siding with the ruling class to suppress the workers.

Your boss is your enemy. Treat him like it.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Bigoted against… bosses? It’s a class war honey, and the ruling class has been winning this war my entire life and are richer than ever.

The world needs less billionaires.

queermunist , (edited )
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

The billionaires are the ones reaping the profits you damn fool! The shareholders are the true boss of any publicly traded company and they are the enemy. CEOs are just figureheads.

You’re a sniveling coward. You don’t want to make the ruling class mad because you are afraid they’ll take away the jobs, so instead you loyally serve them like a good little class traitor.

I’m consistently impressed by Chinese timelines.

Every time I hear projections about America it’s always “by 2030” or “by 2050” and shit like that - meanwhile, China is accomplishing more in less than half the time.

Another country has called Xi a 'dictator' and China is not happy with that description (edition.cnn.com)

China has lashed out at Germany after its foreign minister called Xi Jinping a “dictator” and summoned Berlin’s ambassador for a dressing down, in the latest flaring of tensions with a western democratic power over how the Chinese leader is described overseas.

Am I really supposed to believe that there is zero interest on the part of the US government and US businesses to keep us divided? It’s allllll a foreign psyop? Come on.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Technofeudalism would require more than just inequality. The capitalist State would need to be eroded so that the tech-lord replaces all government services and functions. Markets would need to be eroded in favor of the tech-peasants simply bartering with each other for subsistence. Wages and employment would have to be eroded so instead the tech-peasants pay a tribute to their tech-lord in exchange for the right to use the tech-lord’s land and resources. Changing jobs wouldn’t be a matter of just applying somewhere else, it would mean pledging fealty to a different tech-lord.

Feudalism isn’t just capitalism with extra steps. It’s literally a different economic system.

queermunist , (edited )
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

I will say that the gig economy is actually distinct from the job market. Rather than being a worker employed by a business owner, you have no employer and are forced instead to buy all your own equipment and fuel to perform work. That’s not distinct from capitalism, though.

Once Uber starts demanding loyalty pledges from drivers and forbidding them from working for Lyft, it may start to look more feudalist. As it stands, though, Big Tech doesn’t demand exclusivity. Under feudalism you couldn’t serve multiple Lords - you had to choose.

Also, feudal competition wasn’t market based. It’ll be feudalism when Uber drivers start killing Lyft drivers for being godless heathens.

The middle class is made up of managers, supervisors, and directors. Not workers.

EDIT Y’all are downvoting me, but what do you think the “middle” part of “middle class” stands for? They’re the people between the working class and the owning class! That’s what makes them middle class. That was lost over time because class politics are alien in America.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Do you seriously not notice that right there between the upper and lower class are the managers, supervisors, and directors? The middle class are a financial class, but that’s because they’re also a class with a distinct relation to the means of production. The workers are the ones that do the work, the owners are the ones that reap the profits, and the middle class are the ones that control the workers. They’re a special managerial class elevated above workers with special privileges and responsibilities, but they’re also always employees of the actual ruling class.

Then dumbass Americans just smeared everything together and now everyone says they’re middle class, whether they’re poor or rich lol

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

The modern usage of the term “middle-class”, however, dates to the 1913 UK Registrar-General’s report, in which the statistician T.H.C. Stevenson identified the middle class as those falling between the upper-class and the working-class.[14] The middle class includes: professionals, managers, and senior civil servants. The chief defining characteristic of membership in the middle-class is control of significant human capital while still being under the dominion of the elite upper class, who control much of the financial and legal capital in the world.

Literally just the wikipedia page about the middle class lol

Yes, “middle income” is also an accepted definition, but it’s a shitty definition because it doesn’t mean anything! Income is dependent on markets as much as it is on social structures, and the “middleness” of income is as much of a feeling as it is based in literal dollars. That’s why everyone calls themselves middle class regardless of their actual place in the socioeconomic hierarchy.

Kansas will no longer change trans people's birth certificates to reflect their gender identities (apnews.com)

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

I just quoted a definition. Here, I’ll quote from your link.

The essence of a siege lies in the encirclement of a defended area and the subsequent isolation of the enemy forces by cutting of their channels of supply and reinforcement with a view of inducing the enemy into submission by means of starvation.

How does this not describe a sanctions regime? Obviously the sanctions on China are minor compared to other sanctioned nations, but look at the sanctions on Iran or Russia or Cuba or the Taliban regime. Encirclement, isolation, cutting channels of supply and reinforcement, and the goal in all those casrs is to induce the enemy into submission. Starvation isn’t uncommon.

The sanctions are meant to hurt the enemy.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

I was referring to the other , more heavily sanctioned nations that I also mentioned. Obviously.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

I say it’s an opening salvo. Do you think it’ll stop here?

Just because the siege hasn’t fully begun doesn’t change what it is at its core.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Came around to what? I’m saying this is the begining of another sanctions regime - actually it started with Trump’s tradewar bullshit. There’s a clear escalation that these wars follow.

In every country they’re used, sanctions only ever get worse until the government collapses. Iraq, Iran, Cuba, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, DPRK, and now Russia. It’s almost always a one way street to worse and harsher sanctions until it sparks a civil war. China is next.

Learn some fucking history.

@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Well yeah, the last time I did the math was probably 2006 or something lol

Though the prices I’m seeing currently are $7.94 for 2lbs, $2.88 for 8 buns, $2.48 for 24 cheese slices.

$1.51 per 1/4lb cheese burger.

tbh I have no idea how much this stuff costs without looking it up anymore, I just eat vegetables and beans now lol
