nekandro , to worldnews in Iran seizes cargo ship in Strait of Hormuz after threats to close waterway

Yemen was able to institute a blockade with far fewer resources. What makes you think Iran can’t?

nekandro , to worldnews in Young Hong Kongers who defied Xi are now partying in China

Take a look at a map of China’s HSR network. Most of that network isn’t profitable off of fares: instead, the coastal infrastructure is used to subsidize less profitable lines in the interior (that undoubtedly provide benefits, but not necessarily enough to directly offset the costs with fares).

It’s a given that coastal cities will become more prosperous. China is using the prosperity of coastal cities to improve living conditions in the rest of the country.

Question: is a country sovereign and independent if no other country recognizes it’s independence and it lacks the powers of de facto independence?

If so, then I guess I really could declare that my house is independence and have a bunch of freedom fighters show up to my door…

nekandro OP , to worldnews in The US has secretly offered a stunning array of concessions to Ansarallah to halt its naval operations in support of Gaza – to no avail

Yemen withstood almost a decade of bombardment from Saudi Arabia with support from the UAE, Sudan, Bargain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Senegal, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Canada. Are you really surprised?

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Hamas tells negotiators it doesn’t have 40 Israeli hostages needed for first round of ceasefire

CNN’s record of the conditions of the hostages also suggests there are fewer than 40 living hostages who meet the proposed criteria.

With Hamas appearing to be unable to reach 40 in the proposed categories, Israel has pushed for Hamas to fill out the initial release with younger male hostages, including soldiers, the Israeli official said.

The majority of the almost 100 hostages who remain alive are believed to be male IDF soldiers or men of military reserve age. Hamas is expected to try to use to them in later phases to try to negotiate more significant concessions, including more high-level prisoners and a permanent end to the war.

I’m sorry, I’m just going to repeat the relevant part again: The majority of the almost 100 hostages who remain alive are believed to be male IDF soldiers or men of military reserve age.

“let return”

The population of Gaza City was 600k before the war. Let return my fucking ass.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in China to export deflation to the world as economy stumbles

China, producing cheaper goods that allow consumers to get the same quality of product for less money, thus leaving more money in people’s pockets.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Israel reduces troops in south Gaza, Egypt to host new talks

Holy shit Iran is actually doing something. Iran really is the regional power in the region, huh?

While Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey were jerking each other off, Iran comes and immediately forces Israel to withdraw troops.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Iran offers not to attack Israel if Gaza ceasefire reached

Watch as the US still doesn’t press Israel into a ceasefire. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that conflict in the Middle East isn’t an unfortunate circumstance but a goal of American foreign policy.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Israeli airstrike on Iran consulate in Syria kills six reportedly including IRGC commander

There’s only been two attacks on embassies in modern history: the US on China, and now Israel on Iran.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in When push comes to shove, China edges out US as S-E Asia’s preferred superpower: ISEAS survey

The sheer quantity of geopolitical goodwill that the US decided to sacrifice in support of Israel is unfathomable to me.

It’s particularly notable that ASEAN consists of the Muslim Brunei, Malaysia, and Indonesia as well as the Buddhist Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Israeli airstrike on Iran consulate in Syria kills six reportedly including IRGC commander

Just like the US airstrike on China’s embassy in Serbia, I’m sure this was just an unfortunate accident.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Iran alerted Russia to security threat before Moscow attack

It’s becoming increasingly clear that everyone (the Americans, the British, the Iranians, and likely the Russians) knew about the likelihood of an attack in Moscow. Makes it even more odd that everyone’s intelligence was right on everything except the date.

The Iranians knew that an attack was brewing. The Americans and British knew the date (March 7th, within 48 hours) and a likely target (“concerts”, as described in the US Embassy notice). The Russians had even pinpointed the location (Crocus City Hall, which saw a massive surge in security presence on March 7th and in the days following).

Why, then, did the attack occur on March 22nd? Did someone tip off the terrorists that their operation had been compromised by foreign intelligence, forcing them to call the original operation off and reschedule?
