nekandro , to worldnews in Shafik authorizes NYPD to sweep ‘Gaza Solidarity Encampment,’ officers in riot gear arrest over 100

The right to free speech and peaceful protest, what a funny joke.

The EU: “they’re going to outcompetes us!”

European companies: “please bring on the competition!”

Why is the EU so useless?

nekandro , to worldnews in Blinken says genocide in Xinjiang is ongoing in report ahead of China visit

sigh

You know what has a stronger record of plummeting fertility rates than government intervention? That’s right, education and societal factors. Education attainment skyrocketed, national fertility dropped, and people are surprised that the net result is that Xinjiang’s fertility dropped faster than the national average?

nekandro OP , to worldnews in TikTok ban measure passed by the Senate. Here's what could happen next.

As of June 2022, 100% of all U.S. user traffic is routed to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in the United States, and today all access to that environment is managed exclusively by TikTok U.S. Data Security. We have begun the process of irretrievably deleting historic protected user data in our own Virginia and Singapore data centers; once that process is complete, it will effectively end all access to protected U.S. user data outside of TikTok USDS except under limited circumstances stipulated in our proposed national security agreement.

Guess that wasn’t enough…

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Taiwan will tear down all remaining statues of Chiang Kai-shek in public spaces

Is it? Chiang Kai-shek cemented his place in Chinese history for fighting alongside Sun Yat-sen against the military junta instituted after the fall of Qing. Chiang Kai-shek and Mao Zedong then led China through the Japanese invasion.

His place in Chinese history is undoubtable. You shouldn’t need to be perfect to be remembered.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Chad’s government threatens to kick out US troops as Russia expands influence in Africa

The coup only got support because the previous leaders were corrupt grifters.

Now, sure, the junta might not be much better, but there was tons of popular support for the coup.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Chad Asks US to Withdraw Troops From Key Outpost Ahead of Election

The key is that Russia doesn’t really care about ideology in the way that the West does. It’s less of an attempt to align ideologies, more an attempt to gain allies directly.

Somehow people will find a way to blame China

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Russian troops arrive in Niger as military agreement begins

Apparently all the foreign aid being sent to Niger before the coup was being grifted by country leaders…

So, there was a coup, those (Western-backed leaders) got kicked, and now Niger is changing allegiances.

nekandro , to worldnews in Chinese students in US tell of ‘chilling’ interrogations and deportations

How many of those are graduate students?

nekandro , to worldnews in Chinese students in US tell of ‘chilling’ interrogations and deportations

Military research requires clearance which foreign nationals can’t get anyway.

nekandro , to worldnews in Chinese students in US tell of ‘chilling’ interrogations and deportations

It’s public research. How exactly do you propose to make public research proprietary? The university holds the rights.

nekandro , to worldnews in Chinese students in US tell of ‘chilling’ interrogations and deportations

Stealing IP by… Publishing their own work on publicly accessible journals and conferences? The absolute horror. You don’t steal public IP, you gain (or lose) the rights to use it.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Chinese scientists increase F-22 fighter jet’s radar signature 60,000 times with new detection method: study

Engineering problem.

nekandro OP , to worldnews in Chinese scientists increase F-22 fighter jet’s radar signature 60,000 times with new detection method: study

More radars for more planes

it’s not that complicated

At the end of the day, this is a defensive innovation. While the US has a limited supply of F-22s, China has an essentially infinite supply of radar installations.
