I think the larger content creators will push back against this, precisely due to the timestamp issue.

mister_newbie ,

I’ll play whatever game is good, from whatever platform has the best price, provided it’s compatible.

Fallout Series (Why don’t I like it?)

I think my first Bethesda game was Skyrim and I love Skyrim. I’ve played through Skyrim when it first came out I played through it again in the DLC came out. I played through it again on the switch I have since played through it again on PC. I love Skyrim. I played it so many times and I know it’s a meme to keep re-releasing...

mister_newbie ,

I’ve only ever really liked the original 2 isometric ones, and Vegas. The Bethesda ones are boring.

mister_newbie ,

No but content owners could directly DMCA stuff that’s hosted on usenet, they just don’t.

They absolutely do, which is why the vast, vast majority of content is obfuscated, necessitating the use of indexers.

mister_newbie ,

Early-mid 90s.

The latter years of the NES, the entirety of the 16-bit console era (SNES/Megadrive [“Genesis”]), the golden age of PC adventure games & the dawn of multimedia (CD-ROM based games & talkies).

Just before the release of Doom, where FPS took over; and the PSX/N64, where (bad) 3D was teh hotness; is where it’s at for me – likely why I love my MiSTer FPGA so much.

mister_newbie ,

It’s excellent. There’s missing art assets (placeholder graphics, especially noticeable with the keepsakes - they’re all just gold rings with a single letter pricetag rn), but the gameplay loop is great, the mechanics all appear to be in place and the audio is incredible (just wait until the zone 2 boss fight).

It absolutely feels like a worthy successor to the original. Mel plays very differently than Zag, but the controls are no less tight. God Mode returns if you dislike “git gud”.

Playing it on my Steamdeck, and thoroughly enjoying it.

mister_newbie ,

Android has root, you just gotta put in a little bit of work, and give up your Google App goodies like RCS chat and Pay. (you can get them working too, but Google’s getting better at detection/blacklisting spoofed device fingerprints making it a cat and mouse pain)

mister_newbie ,

I found it to be less of a headache to just embrace transcoding. Buy a refrub SFF PC with an 8th gen or better Intel CPU, and enable QuickSync in Jellyfin.

mister_newbie ,

I prefer it that way; my wife is like you. Classic espresso with the darker roasted and more bitter profile is not pleasant to me, but my wife will say it’s perfect; and what I like, she can’t stand.

It’s as if different taste palettes exist…

mister_newbie ,

That’s not entirely true. If you have a really old firestick on a really old firmware in a drawer somewhere, there was a way to flash a custom Android build on them way back. That’s long been patched out, though.

mister_newbie ,

Most YouTubers aren’t actually tech literate?! Say it ain’t so! /s

mister_newbie ,

No kidding? Didn’t think it was possible anymore. I have that exact model, gotta look into it – the homescreen ads drive me insane (and wifey won’t let me just buy a Shield).

IPTV-ORG XXX Fork?

So, sometimes me and the wife, uh hang out and stuff… and this was kind of our go to. But with github.com/iptv-org/iptv/issues/15723 - all that was removed. I found some of the channels - adultiptv.net but it’s kinda a sketchy site and the channels they provide are like a 3 minute clip and a 10 minute advert… not ideal and...

Near, creator of bsnes/Higan/ares. Their story is tragic.

mister_newbie ,

And Ares

mister_newbie ,

Yeah, Near was a genius, too. They invented the MSU-1 virtual expansion “chip” for the SNES, which allows for CD audio and video on SNES games (and with an appropriate flashcard, it can interface with and run on actual SNES hardware).

mister_newbie ,

Just download it from MS directly and use it unactivated (select “I don’t have a key” when prompted). Why anyone would f- around with their OS, of all things…

If you care to activate, it’s trivial to get a grey key or to find an activation script (though I think they patched out the script – even though MS Support themselves used it)

mister_newbie ,

Windows supports Android apps. You can use Newpipe there, too. I mean, I don’t know why you would since uBlock works fine, but you could.

mister_newbie ,

There’s a glass model of the Clever Dripper to consider, too.

Sorry if this is covered somewhere but I couldn't find it! I need recommendations on a good starter NAS

Title says pretty much all there is. Im just getting started in this and don’t want to go too crazy. Im willing to go as high as $250 right now which, when i look around, i know isn’t gonna get me anything absolutely amazing but hey back off im an instacart driver lol

mister_newbie ,

I bought the Aoostar R1 and freaking love this thing. Throw in 2 drives (I bought 2 refurbished white label 10TB drives I got off Bezosland for cheap) and threw Proxmox on it. Serving up my SAMBA shares, running PiHole and Jellyfin, all on separate LXCs. She’s a beauty.

On the end of Discovery

I have mixed feelings about Disco ending. I really dug the first season’s look at a Federation at war, and following the person who arguably set that war in motion dealing with her culpability. Add to that a ship that is part weird science lab, part haunted house. And yeah, I could live with the Klingon redesign....

mister_newbie ,

Premise was great, buildup was okay, outcome and resolution were awful.

mister_newbie ,

Project Diablo 2 is a pretty vanilla version of Diablo 2 LoD. Yes, it rebalances.skills and items, and adds corruptions and endgame maps, but there’s no new skills. For a complete overhaul, you want MedianXL.

That said, I’d still forego both and go with D2R. Modding is coming along, finally. After a regular playthrough or eighteen (6 classes × 3 difficulties), give Diablo 2 ReModded a try.

mister_newbie ,

Loved him as the evil Protoss in SC2.

mister_newbie ,

Sir Patrick Stewart as the Encarta (or was it Britannica?) encyclopedia “help” narration was hilarious in how unnecessary it was.

Games that my non-gamer girlfriend can watch me playing?

I recently finished The Last of Us 2. My girlfriend sometimes watches me play my games. And while I thought that TLoU would be a great game to follow, it was hard for her to watch (due to the violence). I wonder if there is a game that would be easy or even interesting for her to watch while I play, without it having to be...

mister_newbie ,

Play retro adventure games, or modern Telltale ones.

mister_newbie ,

The new AOOSTAR R1 is awesome! Set up a Proxmox instance on it with Opnsense, Jellyfin, and PiHole VMs, plus some simple SAMBA shares on another Debian VM.

mister_newbie ,

Try Sea of Stars, it scratches that Chrono Trigger classic RPG itch, while nearly completely eliminating the grinding. I got every achievement in it, and at no time did it feel like a slog.

  • Wanna get every item? There’s a feature that facilitates that, which lets you know what areas still need to be swept, near the endgame.
  • Feel like you’re not leveling fast enough? There’s an easily purchased in-game item to double XP (toggleable)
  • Only got time for short sessions? Save points are everywhere

And yet, the game isn’t too easy, either.

mister_newbie ,

Lemme guess on the two cheevos:

“Bounce the 'rang 25 times”
and
“Equip a certain relic and do some boss fights”

For the first, just find an enemy you fight CLOSE to and just button mash.

For the second, it’s not hard, just do it on NG+ and start EARLY.

Also, did you do the Kickstarter? If so, what’s your statue code, I’ll check you out.

mister_newbie ,

Immutable distributions are the future. I’d suggest getting used to them. Fedora Kinoite is my daily driver on my PC.

What's the easiest/best way to make my own blurays?

Obviously I won’t share where I’ve gotten my files over the years for media but as a physical collector as well, the prices for some bluray collections of things is outrageous and would like to make my own that look somewhat professional. I have a bluray burner and blank bluray discs.

mister_newbie ,

Buy a 3D printer and print mini “Blu-ray” cases that actually hold a USB stick or MicroSD card. Would still be cheaper than making actual discs.

mister_newbie ,

René’s son is basically a clone of his dad, appearance wise.

mister_newbie ,

“After rejoining the Great Link, I carry with me now the voice of all my People. I apologize if I… if we… sound… different.”

Problem solved.

mister_newbie ,

He can act.

mister_newbie ,

René’s.

“Rémy-Luc Julian Michel Auberjonois is an American actor. He is best known for his recurring role as Mr. Albin in the television series Weeds and as Dr. Emerson on the television series Mad Men.” - Wikipedia page.

mister_newbie ,

I had this exact thought. I’ve since bought a domain name, moved my email over to tutanota, did a takeout request, and installed DeGooglified LineageOS. I went nuclear. Fuck Google - remember when their motto was “Don’t be evil” ? Ha!

mister_newbie ,

I migrated my Steam library off Gmail last month. You’re allowed to change email addresses.

Subtitles for the despecialized Star Wars fan remakes?

Hi, I’m trying to find the subtitles for Harmy’s “Despecialized” Star Wars remakes and I was wondering if anybody has any ideas. The original website for Project Threepio points at a blog that seems abandoned and an old private tracker (MySpleen) that never opens to public anymore. Even just the English subs would be...

King’s Quest III

It was the first game I remember playing solo without help, I really sunk my teeth into it. I was 8 and it had been released a few years prior, so it was also the first game I bought with my own money when I found it in a bargain bin at a computer convention show in the late 80s.

My Dad was busy and couldn’t install it for me right away, so it was also the game that got me started using MS DOS (everything I ran prior was installed by my Dad and launched via [IIRC] WordPerfect Shell).

Yes, I’m old.

Need suggestions for grinder

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Breville Bambino. It’s my first espresso machine, and I’m quite happy with it. I love the fact that it has a thermoblock which means that I don’t have to wait for the water to turn on before I can enjoy my coffee. I’ve been able to pull some good shots with it, but the exact same...

Eureka Facile (or Manuale - they’re basically the same thing, Facile has extra sound dampening)

A few 3D printed extras (angled based, angled hopper chute), and silicon bellows (Etsy sells everything), and you’ve got yourself one hell of a single doser.

And it’s actually quiet, unlike many of the Baratza products; if they’re too much $, though the Encore ESP is good, and while loud-ish, quick.

I had the Breville SGP before my Eureka, wasn’t a fan of it - stepless is the way.
