Yeah I was on Kbin but got tired of the UI. Plus there are no apps for it.

minorsecond ,

Using lemmy is well worth the $5 per month I give them.

Sitting while peeing is truly a delight @youshouldknow

minorsecond ,

I do it any time I need to do a stealthy pee or if things are hard if you catch my drift

Do you find that you're on the fed more than you were on r/ just because you're really really excited to watch your favorite communities become more active?

I do, but as more people join I’m also feeling a little republican - i got my spot and this is good; everyone on the outside can go fuck off now. I don’t want it to get so big that it’s what we left. No intended disrespect or lack of acknowledgment to those who were here before.

minorsecond ,

Yes. I think it’s because I’m a monthly supporter though. It seems to have a big psychological effect in that I want my money’s worth, and I want Lemmy to succeed. So I comment and post quite a bit to help keep communities active.

minorsecond ,

For example, I tried to recreate the Powerlifting community here and it’s completely dead lol. It’s just me posting a couple times per week hoping someone else joins me. There are around 50 subscribers but they only upvote my posts.

Spreading this around when I can. Here’s how you can personally block threads.net:

The boosts segment annoys the hell out of me for some reason. I just don’t want to hear about crypto.

minorsecond ,

All the ones mentioned mostly. But also Linux in the Ham Shack.

minorsecond ,

That’s what my wife says. I want to sell our gun and she’s anti-gun too. But she doesn’t want to get rid of our gun until guns are banned.

Gentoo

Control

minorsecond ,

Yep, these are all true. Throw in overlays and the package availability is unbeatable.

minorsecond ,

I just reinstalled Gentoo and switched to a Systemd setup as well. I held off for as long as I could but it’s just so nice!

I’m using the binary kernel for now, but I’ll compile my own when I find the time. 11MB is nuts!

minorsecond ,

I usually run some commands while running the binary kernel that will disable every module not currently running in the config file, and then build the kernel from that.

I’m guessing you prefer building everything as a module if your kernel is that small?

minorsecond ,

I think he mentioned that the app stopped working before the deadline, and then he deleted the token at that point. So Reddit disabled his app early because they’re assholes.

minorsecond ,

The second one updates world, so you get a system update.

minorsecond ,

I just realized what you were asking lol. I’ve had a couple beers, sorry.

Your idea may work, I’ll have to try it.

minorsecond ,

Wouldn’t the Rs just do the same thing next time they have power? I get what you’re saying, but isn’t setting that precedent dangerous?

minorsecond ,

But the forgiven PPP loans are A-OK, right? Fuck this shit.

What other fantasy should I read if I’m obsessed with Lord of the Rings?

I’ve been a huge fan of the movies since they first came out but didn’t read the books until the beginning of this year. I just wasn’t a reader until recently. I’ve been yearning for some more fantasy but haven’t been able to find anything similar. I tried The Silmarillion but it reads too much like a textbook to me....

minorsecond OP ,

That series has been on my radar, but I’ve been weary because I’ve heard that there’s a big lull in the middle 5 books or so.

minorsecond ,

I still see Kobo recommended these days, so an upgrade might be a good option for you. I use a Kindle, but that obviously locks you in with Amazon. I wish I’d have gotten a Kobo myself.

minorsecond ,

This makes it seem like you can, but I don’t know for sure.

minorsecond ,

Ha, yeah I do that all the time. I’m still considering switching to a Kobo once I read all the books in my queue.

minorsecond ,

I’m not sure. Sounds like I have a project to try this weekend!
