What are you supposed to do if you download the wrong torrent?

A few days ago I download a movie but the movie was in another language and I’m definitely not going to watch it because of that, I still completed the 1:1 ratio because at the end of the day I downloaded the file and used other people’s bandwidth, but what is one supposed to do in this situation?...

matey ,

Damn. IPT is the first PT I joined, so my ratio is fucked and seemingly unfixable.

There’s a Jellyfin plugin for trakt.

    matey OP ,

Okay, looks like you can do it in ffmpeg, but you have to map every audio stream individually in the command to rearrange them.

    matey ,

If you’re running docker, you can use a gluetun container for your VPN networking; it supports port forwarding, and you don’t need to mess with your router.

    I recommend Proton.

For just $30 + $5 a month, I'm able to share everything with my family. Here's how.

(Disclaimer: yes, I bought a $180 4TB Crucial SSD too, but my family split the cost with me since they’re going to use my Jellyfin server. Whether that counts towards the final cost is up to you. And the electricity cost is pretty negligible to run a Le Potato as a server, but I guess you can count that too.)...

    matey ,

I rarely get more than a few mb down or up even with port forwarding.

    matey ,

I believe Proton also has the ability to block ads via DNS.

    matey OP ,

    Yes! Is that possible?

    matey OP ,

I’m not looking to have them bundled. I want the management interface separate.

    matey OP ,

That just changes the port of the bundled UI; it doesn’t allow you to connect a UI to a separate client.

    matey OP ,

That’s all bundled in one. What I’m asking about is separating the UI from the client.

    matey OP ,

Thank you. :) So the answer is that it’s not possible.

I’ll take a look at the other options you mention.

    matey OP ,

I want to have multiple UIs in front of the same client.

    matey OP ,

Other way around - I want to have multiple UIs for a single client.

    matey ,

You’ll get more connections if people can get to you; otherwise, you’re only connecting to people who are port forwarding themselves. If you’re port forwarding, you can connect to everyone.

    matey ,

    IPTorrents, a private BitTorrent tracker.

    matey ,

Yes, unless you want to still have an engine, then no.

    matey ,

I like that they have XMR and no middlemen. I use usenight, which does take crypto but has neither of those features - but costs $20/yr instead of $20/quarter.

    matey ,

Try tzahi12345/youtubedl-material for a handy UI.

    matey ,

I don’t think you and I have the same definition of the word “safer.”

    matey ,

Netflix’s ad tier is also more profitable.

Jackett's manual search is so, so good (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

To be clear, this is just a joke, and I don’t look down on direct downloading. It absolutely has its place, and sometimes I do it myself if it’s just faster to download a file directly. Torrenting is just so much more convenient, though, especially when using Jackett’s manual search.

    matey ,

Yep, that’s what I’m doing (except different NAS). I’ve got the Proton connection at my firewall, but you can use a gluetun container and route your other containers through that as well.

Searching for a 'library manager' that looks awesome.

As the title says. I have been searching for something like Kodi but more focused on an offline library manager for all the media I have. I can just navigate with the file explorer through my folders but it just looks not that pretty. Is there anything like a library manager to display my videos/music in a similar way of big...

The TV streaming apps broke their promises, and now they’re jacking up prices (arstechnica.com)

For a moment, it seemed like the streaming apps were the things that could save us from the hegemony of cable TV—a system where you had to pay for a ton of stuff you didn’t want to watch so you could see the handful of things you were actually interested in....

As mentioned elsewhere in these comments, !piracy.

    matey ,

It just duplicates it anyway, doesn’t it?

    matey ,

I prefer the simpler Jellyfin UI; Plex has too much going on.

    matey , (edited )

I’ll admit to being a little nervous to stand up something on my server that’s explicitly named for looting/pillaging, just in case I’m the mark and not the operator.

EDIT: Why is the app having my browser try to load googleads and doubleclick.net ads? I assume the play.google.com and youtube.com integrations are for some additional content?

    matey ,

All the private trackers I’ve seen have rules saying they’ll kick you out if you share their content with anyone other trackers or with DHT.

    matey ,

Wait, really? So how do you share it? Do you make a new torrent file and upload it?

    matey ,

Do the limits expand over time, or is it always so limited for a free account?

    matey ,

I don’t understand half the words in this, but I read the whole thing, so have an upvote.

    matey ,

If you’re planning on publishing games in traditional channels, I’d recommend making sure your licensing is in order. I think there are some free resources in the marketplace, but otherwise, I highly recommend paying for what you need.

    matey ,

That makes a lot of sense.

    matey ,

Is there a way to get this into Jellyfin?

    matey ,

How do you get permission to upload to a private tracker? It seems like you need extra special permissions in the ones I’ve seen.

    Ad blocking on android

I would like to pirate on my phone sometimes and the ads on websites are problem. I’m not newbie, I know I can install firefox and get the uBlock on it but firefox android is a little bit slow so I prefer to use Opera browser; opera has an ad blocker but it’s a joke compared to uBlock. I’m in a restricted country and my...

When the money goes to people who did not create the media. Support creators, not exploiters.

    matey ,

    Correct.

    matey ,

Question about this: if there’s no IP, what is the motivation for creating media or game content?

    matey ,

I have Jellyseerr set up so that I and my friends can request things that will automatically get pulled down. It also has trending and upcoming content, so I sometimes find stuff there. Also, generally, I just see/hear people talking about stuff and want to check it out.

I had 2TB of space when I got my NAS, and that was more than enough for my lab, until I started downloading media. Then I bumped it to 4TB and then recently 12TB.

I want to have content for myself and my users. I will occasionally delete things if I don’t think anyone else will want to watch it and I won’t want to rewatch it. That’s usually nothingy action flicks.

Is a plex subscription worth it?

I want to unlock the ability to view content on my mobile device. I can do that with a one-time purchase (payed with google opinion rewards) or with a subscription. I want to unlock the ability for my entire family though, across multiple devices. Do I have to pay the “one-time payment” for every device? If so, the plex...
