Hi, I'm Lispi, Lisp (Technomancer) Wizard (to eventually be).

You might know me from @lispi314

I like Free Software, #Emacs and resilient computing a lot.

I also like anime girls, animes with cute girls doing cute things and artwork with them too. Cute stories are good too.

And we interpret "push past your limits" as push yourself until you literally collapse from exhaustion rather than push past the minor discomfort that we push past every day just to survive. And we assume most of our lives that other people are doing the same and so we feel inferior since it's so much more difficult for us. But

@irotsoma @kirtai @actuallyautistic Can confirm.

People do not seem to understand that it is very possible to push past discomfort and pain until literal muscle damage & tearing occurs. That "a bit of pain is normal" really doesn't mean much if one has difficulty judging those limits.

And if one says they're at their limit, maybe they know what they're talking about and shouldn't be assumed to be lying? Quite a few incompetent phys ed instructors I've seen cause students to get sick from overextertion.

Requirements to put in a job description to discourage or filter out autistic people:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong people skills
  • Good culture fit
  • Multitasking
  • A fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Bachelor's degree or better

I see these things and think you don't want my >30 years of programming and machine learning experience, or my problem-solving skills and comprehensive knowledge that had people mistaking me for one of the team's PhDs, or my solutions that have proven patent-worthy. Your loss.

@hosford42 @actuallyautistic The common insistance on hybrid or on-site.

They can fuck right off with that. I've had enough of the added distractions and stress of constant observation and (distracting) stim suppression to last me a lifetime. Especially open offices, those things are awful.

Add to this that we're still in a pandemic and they usually don't do anything to address ongoing biohazards? No thanks.

Plus with my allergies that means that basically any time outside of winter that I'm exposed to unfiltered air, I'm going to have all sorts of distracting symptoms.

Mandatory in-person team-building events have some of the very same issues, on top of the added awkwardness and annoyance for something that I did not want to do nor am I getting paid to do. If you want team spirit/dedication/whatever? Pay me well, make me work in conditions I find conducive to my existence (rather than hostile), and on something that isn't awfully unethical, so that suppressing my morals and values isn't an active part of my work duties (it's incredibly straining to do so).

My real worry with Google's voyage into enshittification (thanks to Cory Doctorow @pluralistic the term) is YouTube.

Through YT, for the past 15 years, the world has basically entrusted Google to be the custodian of pretty much our entire global video archive.

There's countless hours of archived footage — news reports, political speeches, historical events, documentaries, indie films, academic lectures, conference presentations, rare recordings, concert footage, obscure music — where the best or only copy is now held by Google through YouTube.

So what happens if maintaining that archival footage becomes unprofitable?

@tomjennings @technology @pluralistic @ajsadauskas It's important to note though that some boards acquired community wikis and archives way sooner, like /tg/.

In part because faithfully and accurately memorizing entire homebrew sourcebooks is not a reasonable prospect.

Autistic people may be dealing with many other issues, dubbed comorbidities by the medical community. I've listed some of them in the mind map below. Many can’t be seen by others.

@homelessjun @actuallyautistic @autism101 @aproposnix @CynAq I always found that stupid, but never as much as when I learned that so many of the "rules" used for the "simple" symbolic transformations in mathematics are indeed completely arbitrary without the proofs.

In other words, they already taught us what they consider "cheating" but because /they/ did it it's fine. Such a double-standard is complete bullshit in my opinion.
