Copilot isn’t actually bad for developers, it’s just that you need to be careful with it and recognize its limitations.

Writing a bunch of REST endpoints for an API and need to implement all the typical http verbs, and you already have all the matching methods for reading, updating, and deleting values in a complex SQL database for each endpoint to call? Copilot can turn a ten minute chore into a ten second one. Very handy.

Writing those complex SQL methods in the first place? Yeah… Copilot will probably make a ton of mistakes and its work will need to be triple-checked. You’ll save time just doing it yourself if you know how. (And if you don’t, you have no business calling yourself a developer.)

Copilot is best for easy boilerplate and repetitive code. Problems arise as soon as you ask it to get “creative.”

This reads as transphobic, but I’m going to leave it up for two reasons:

• First, your subsequent comments don’t show any malice, just a lack of understanding.
• Second, that lack of understanding appears to have been rectified by others’ comments, and I think seeing that could be valuable for onlookers.

I’m not trans myself, but my son is, and he explains how he felt something like this…

Imagine you’re a pretty average boy, and interested in stereotypical boy things. You like boy clothes, you want to hang out with your friends who are boys, you look forward to growing muscles and a mustache when you’re old enough, etc.

Now imagine that at the same time, all your clothes are girl clothes, your name is girly, and everyone around you thinks you’re a girl.

That wouldn’t match up, would it. It would feel incongruous and wrong.

If you’re cisgender, you can absolutely prove you’re a boy to everyone’s satisfaction, and you’re unlikely to get dressed in the wrong clothes or given a mismatched name in the first place. So you probably don’t ever have to think about your gender and whether it’s being expressed by your body incorrectly.

But for trans people, it’s not uncommon for them to become acutely aware of gender when they’re young in ways that their cisgender counterparts don’t, precisely because of the mismatch.

That’s how it was for my son. He didn’t figure out he was trans until he was around thirteen, but he knew something wasn’t right long before then.

I switched to Linux years ago, and have never looked back. Every computer in my house except one (my mandatory work laptop) runs some flavor of Linux, and my kids have never been forced to use Windows at all. And if I have my way, they never will.

Another Feedly user, here. Definitely the way to go after the death of Google Reader.

My only concern with it is that I’d prefer any advertisement revenue to go to the original website with the content I want. Fortunately, if the website’s ads aren’t intrusive, I just disable ad block on that site and click through to it, giving them the views they need to keep going.

With targeted operations like this, they knew exactly who they were going after and where. That’s not a defense of Israel’s actions, just a statement that this isn’t the sort of thing they’d do to take out some random civilians.

In fact, much the opposite. This more closely resembles the sort of action Israel could have done from the beginning to take down Hamas without destroying Gaza. It would have deprived Hamas of their propaganda wins, would have kept the world firmly on Israel’s side, and would have been much more effective long-term.

Unlikely to be Israeli dissidents in a Gaza West Bank hospital, and if they were Palestinian dissidents against Hamas, it wouldn’t make any sense to target them.

And if they were journalists, we’d already be hearing about it from their publishers, as we have with other journalist killings.

The most likely scenario is that they really were members of Hamas, but that just serves to highlight that the atrocities Netanyahu’s government has otherwise engaged in have been unnecessary.

They all got greedy. All of them. We wanted a streaming service to watch our shows and movies on, and they all decided to pretend that what we really wanted was a return to paying $100+ a month for a collection of channels with content that we mostly don’t watch on them, only this time with a bunch of additional apps you have to install for each one, most of them remarkably shitty. Like cable, but stupider.

Remember when the streaming setup was simple? There was basically just Netflix, it paid for licenses to content from Disney, Paramount, etc., and provided guaranteed income for those companies. Small income, sure, but steady.

Then each of them said, “Hey, why don’t we replace Netflix, only all we’ll stream is our own stuff! And sure, most of it’s trash, but people will stick around for the good shows!”

No. No, they won’t. They’ll go back to pirating it. No one is paying for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount+, Max, Peacock, AppleTV, ESPN+, Prime, and whatever other shitty “exclusive” streaming service pops up.

Here’s the thing… Democrats could flip the House and increase their lead in the Senate easily. In fact, they could make their leads in both chambers practically insurmountable. All they’d have to do is have small numbers of Democratic voters in the large states move to states like Wyoming, the Dakotas, Idaho, etc. Have a few million people migrate from California, New York, and Illinois, and those deeply red states would instantly become bright blue.

The problem, however, is obvious: How do you convince someone living in New York to move to North Dakota?

Just this last week, my youngest kid caught and brought home influenza-A, which I’ve been reading is pretty gnarly this year. But it’s been comparatively mild for us - probably because we vaccinate. Mostly just an annoying cough and some fatigue.

In my case, I didn’t get sick at all. My wife has mild symptoms, as does my oldest kid. The worst is actually my youngest, but still not particularly severe.

Moral of the story: Vaccines are fucking awesome and the fact that some people refuse to vaccinate just blows my fucking mind.
