WIP mean work in progress. I use these posts to update users on what I’m working on. 1.0.2 is not available just yet.

[Bug] After I read an article, sometimes I'm not brought back to the right place

Sometimes when I read an article in the Webview and go back, I’m at the top of my Subscribed list instead of the post where I came from. In the History I can go back to the correct post, but when I go back from there I’m again at the top of the Subscribed list....

Should be easy enough to add. I’ll add it for the next update.

[Feature Request] Combine Community

As it is known, lemmy has many instances. There are similar communities in different instances. Is it possible to gather and display similar communities around a single title? For example, if there are 3 different technology communities, if you press and hold a community name in the subscriptions section on the left, the...

I think I’ve seen this feature in some Reddit apps before, with a name like “multi feeds” or something. Currently the lemmy API doesn’t support this AFAIK so it would need to be entirely client sided. This makes it a bit tricky to implement due to sorting.

For instance, let’s say you have 3 communities [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. Let’s say you have them in the same feed and sorted by Hot. The server will provide me with 3 different list of posts for each community but how do I merge 3 lists together while preserving the “Hot” ordering? This requires the client to know how posts are scored on the server and implement it client sided.

Lemmy is open source so I can find the algorithm used to score the posts based on the sort type and implement them client sided but this does feel hacky as the client is imitating server behavior.

Funny enough this is literally how the inbox feature works today and why inbox too so long to implement. Inbox was actually written in a reusable way so I could potentially port it over for communities with some small changes.

In any case I think this feature is too complex to implement at the moment and I would prefer to hold off on it until I’m done some of the other features. I will add it to the roadmap. Maybe by the time I get to it this would be added to the Lemmy api so I wouldn’t need to do this client sided.

Thank you for reporting. This is a known “bug” or a quirk due to the way it’s implemented. Although the UI shows “bookmarked” and “subscriptions” as the only 2 types of community bookmarks, there is technically a 3rd type. The special “home” bookmark. That is why you are technically allowed to both bookmark and make the same community as home.

As for why you cannot remove the bookmark, that is likely a bug. This is probably an edge case where both the home and the subscription share the same community. I’ll look into a fix for the next update.

I’m glad you enjoy the app!

It’s wide because it’s draggable. If it was narrow you wouldn’t think to try to drag it.

As for the square edge yeah that is more of a older design choice. I can look for update it for the next update.

Wait I didn’t change the back gesture I don’t think (or it wasn’t intentional). What do you mean?

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Did you enable compatibility mode?

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

There was a user that was experiencing some really bizzare bugs. It’s odd that it’s disabled but you still notice a difference. Would it be possible to show me a recording of what the transition looks like? I’ll also try to reproduce it on my end.

I wonder if the animation you saw in the last update was actually a bug and it was fixed this update, causing the animation to show correctly.

Here is how it’s supposed to look: www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7AhZSjDuXE

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that’s a bug. I’m pushing a fix now. Hopefully should be available in the play store in an hour.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

it’s 100% compatibility mode that’s causing that. Update should be out so it should be fixed now.

idunnololz OP ,

Coming up in the next update.

@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Do you know a way to reproduce this? I have never seen this before

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Alternatively could you please provide the android os version and the device name? Thanks in advance.

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you for the info. Oh I forgot to ask but what version of the app are you running? You can check the version by tapping the three dots button (bottom right), then tap Settings > About Summit

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

That is really odd. My test device is also android 11 and it works fine on it. Hmmmm. Not sure what the issue is at the moment.

Also tested on a 2017 Android 9 device and it works there as well.

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

So the bug only occurs with certain posts?

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

For the v1 release I added a setting in Settings > Post list called compatibility mode to hopefully address this bug. Unfortunately since I cannot reproduce the bug I cant address the bug more directly.

I’ll make another post here when v1 should be available on the play store.

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Where do you live so I can break in and try the password?

idunnololz ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

I used a randomly generated password as a child. I copied it by hand so many times I memorized it. I still use that password today for something.

If anyone makes a theme, I’ll name the theme after them.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Err it would be confusing to name both themes the same. Would you like to assign each a different name of your choice?

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

What do you want to name it?

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Will add for the next update thanks!

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Cool. Thank you very much! Your theme will be added in the next update.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

I think I figured it out finally. I assume neither of you have gesture navigation enabled? This appears to be due to some weird Android behavior when you are using the 3 button navigation. I’ll have a fix for v1.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for reporting. WIll fix.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

One more thing, when we change sort, from top to new for exemple, the app should scroll to the top of the list by itself. Right?

Makes sense to me. I just built v1 for release so unfortunately it will have to be added in the next update unless I find a huge bug in the current v1 build.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Btw, how on earth did you make the app so smooth, its a fantastic experience!

I’m pretty critical of the user experience an app provides and performance plays a big role in that, so it’s something I put a lot of effort info.

idunnololz OP ,
@idunnololz@lemmy.world avatar

Yep this is planned. I just isn’t super high priority at the moment. I’ll try to add it by the end of the week.
