They are creating more and more idiots out there. The trend of “Help, our students don’t understand xyz, let’s stop teaching that immediately!” is disgusting. Maybe think of teaching it in a different way or just spending more time on that topic?

I don’t think this precision is necessary. We have an analog clock in our living room, and I often quickly glance at it to get a feeling for time. I don’t care if it is 11:35 or 11:36, I just think “Oh, it’s half past eleven”. At a train station, when seconds count, analog clocks are a dumb idea. However, then I also have my (digital) watch.

And each version of Metafont gets an additional digit of e (currently at 2.71828182).

Closure! (I don’t think so, not many programmers like reading/writing functional code. But it is his current favorite language, so, who knows?)

guemax , to programmerhumor in Popular Programming Book "Clean Code" is being rewritten

I am also a big fan of his books, especially Clean Code. His (far-)right opinions are bad, but should be (to some extent) viewed separately from his technical standpoints. However, even then a new edition would not perform well, there are too many people hating Clean Code (without really understanding its message/just ranting without having read it). But I was very surprised that ThePrimeagen recently interviewed his “opponent”, it was very nice to watch.

guemax , to linux in How to use Whatsapp Video Call on Linux?

Privacy is not the point of OP’s question. A good answer would’ve been saying there is no WhatsApp client for Linux, and then (optionally) explaining that Signal has a desktop client and is a also privacy-respecting choice. Insulting OP by stating “You should not use this or that” is such a StackOverflow thing and helps nobody.

Edit: Just to make sure: I’ve never used WhatsApp and never will use it.

guemax , to technology in YouTube tests server-side ads to make your coveted blocker obsolete

Piped. It uses SponsorBlock to also skip ads by the creator in the video, I am very sure they will update it to remove ads injected by YouTube as well. It is also very privacy-friendly.

guemax , to technology in YouTube tests server-side ads to make your coveted blocker obsolete

That sounds very much like the idea of SponsorBlock (but might need a bit of refinement to work for different ads of different length). You should definitely check out Piped for watching YouTube videos without any tracking/ads/dark patterns, I am very sure they will do something to remove server-side ads as well (hopefully).

And if it is just five seconds instead of 15, it would be way better!
