Luckily Libretube and Piped still work so I haven’t had to visit the normal Youtube site in ages, I do know Youtube increased their aggression towards third party frontends too tho so we will see how long the Newpipe extractor will work I guess!

Youtube never was a especially profitable business on it’s own, they basically just need it for the traffic but I guess they might try to change that, if that’s the case the logical next step would be dropping independent creators! :/

That sounds great, I think one of the biggest issues of Matrix is the feature packed default client, it can’t be easy with that much stuff in it and it isn’t ideal for most use cases because it tries to cover all. The official client is the one new users will try and in case of a chat app that should be a simple chat app like Whatsapp or signal, just without the extra crap!

Wine and DXVK made it increadably easy to support Linux and if a company doesn’t even put in that much effort or intentionally breaks the game for you it’s certainly not worth your money! I pirate rather than use the refund window but the principal is the same since I do buy good games after all.

Yes, a LOT of things! Fallout76 is the worse example (the internet historian video about it is good), Fallout 4 to some extend, the endless rereleases of Skyrim with no additional value, their shitty launcher, their constant selling of rippoff merch and so on. It’s a terribke company that was good ages ago and still profits from their prior reputation, well and now it’s owned by Microsoft too!

Well, everybody is entitled to a own opinion but I highly recommend that Internet Historian video because you certainly don’t seem to understand the degree of garbage they did with Fallout 76, I am definitely happy they don’t force there launcher anymore tho!

Unless you are on NVidia or need X11 specific things (E.g. a lot of the accessability stuff) I would go for Wayland, it still has some issues but so dose X11 and Wayland is simply the new display server from the xorg foundation because X11 was impossible to properly update by now, it has far too much lagacy code and didn’t get any new version in ages for that reason.

I feel like taht’s often the case but Wayland as the newer protocol usually has the correct architecture with a early implementation while X11 has hard to fix architectural problems. I am a opponend of “whatever works for you” and I think that will be Wayland for most people fairly soon if it isn’t already but in case it actually isn’t I wouldn’t recommend it because, well, it doesn’t work properly for you.

It dose work with NVidia GPUs too but propriatary software adopts slower to new technologies so the cards with propriatary drivers naturally have more issues and that’s sadly still the case in a direct comparison but it’s getting better fast

Linux gaming has come to the point where many publishers and developers literally add Wine support intentionally and the game consol with the biggest game library of all time (Steam Deck) uses it but we still have people like you… If you want to use Windows you are free to do so but Linux is a great option by now too!

I think thee main reason for some of Waylands feature cuts next to security and legacy stuff no one needs anymore is the unmaintainable giant X11 became but I agree, some sort of reliable way to extend the protocol directly would be cool to have eventually, usually that stuff shouldn’t really be in the protocol itself ether tho!

I never claimed you or others don’t need it, just that it’s a featore most people don’t need… Furthermore almost anyone who claims to need it would be totally fine with a implementation outside of the display protocol (E.g. VNC) too so the amount of people who actually need it is extremly small.

I think that’s half true, Pulseaudio always was very buggy and a main reason for Linux bad reputation regarding none pro audio but most Distros switched already so if you use the default it will probably be Pipewire already.

My main issue with authoritarian attempts to achive anything close to socialism failed because of coruption and similar shit if they didn’t just use it as nothing but a talking point in the first place so I don’t see that as viable option to achive any kind of equality ether.

There is a lot that’s wrong with Cuba and I certainly wouldn’t want to live there but it’s one of if not the only better places (in terms of things like access to healthcare, housing and such) in south America despite heavy sanctions and the dictatorship but I have absolutely no idea how they still exist, it’s a fucking miracle considering the the circumstances and they do it at very high costs in terms of technological progress. What I always viewed as huge mistake is the UDSSR or China as partner, they never cared much about the ideology (they did kind of care for a perverted version supporting some parts whenever it was convinient for the powerful but really not much) and fought for their own interests, doing so wasn’t/isn’t just a risk to your reputation which would be fine but also your autonomy and many of their goals aren’t any less imperialistic than Americas.

Absolutely but authoritarian states are at a even higher risk in that regard and you got enough powerful enemies as a socialist already. One of the biggest issue for Arnachism next to the absurd amount of very different interpretations is ironically Socialism/Communism, parts of many revolutions had Arnachist ideas and so did big parts of the historic worker movments (Black is the flag of the Arnachist and Red of the Socialist worker) but they never really managed to get any of them in to the new system even after a successful revolution. It’s all a very tough question and I wish I had good answers but I fear the truth is none of us dose, at least we oppose fucking capitalism I guess, that’s a start and history has shown it can spread to bigger parts of society in some cases.

You don’t access any Fediverse project with the same user and I never claimed there is a Fediverse service that Matrix has a OAuth option for, just that it’s just OAuth and can be implemented easily to basically everything, there are no shared accounts between Fediverse services and there are barly any Fediverse projects with OAuth implementations between each other ether, Pixelfed recently added Mastodon OAuth but even that’s a relatively new feature.

Idk why video calls and Whatsapp wouldn’t work but I never used the normal Youtube app so all I can tell you is that Newpipe still works great, the official Youtube website is definitely a pain like any JS heavy piece of garbage. Not sure why you would have a bad experience with old Laptops unless they break or you try to run Windows on one, if you got at least 2GB of RAM in it you should be fine in my experience but 4GB is more ideal these days.
