How do my and folks figure out how to task switch to something even approximating relaxation from work or is this just not possible? Any strategies anyone uses?

Only in the past couple years did I learn about Aphantasia and this year about SDAM.

I have delved some into info but not intensely.

There is still reconciliation with knowing I have a ‘loss’ where before I did not know I was missing something.

I still do not really know what to do with all the info. And if I want to get an diagnosis.

Here is a good article I found today that resonates a lot with me.

Hmmm... Are there any validated (or not) assesent tools? Both of these ring bells, but I'd like to reserve my self judgement until I understand more. Thanks for writing about this.

Thank you. I'll need to read more, but I don't at this point think In see anything. I feel like there's a flash, upfront, but more reading required.

Thanks again.

Many autistic people struggle with “multiple choice” and “select the right answer” exam questions. A key reason for this is that the options available can feel - to our brains - like such vague simplifications or awkwardly worded answers that they all feel somewhat incorrect. 1/2

I tend to just call this "snap mode" where I turn off the part of my brain that evaluates and just act. It's far less accurate, but it's the only way I can get through such types of questions.

So the book I'm currently reading (Unmasking Autism by Devon Price) makes a big point of saying that Autistics use their special interests as a way to focus, recharge, and generally be happy. It got me thinking: I haven't really given myself the space to work on any sort of hobby or interest in years.

Anyway, I gave myself like 2.5 hours this afternoon while my daughter was napping to get out the arduino my partner got me for Christmas years ago, but I had never actually used. Played around with it, got a program in Rust working on it, put a push button together on a breadboard - nothing too complicated. But holy crap! I haven't felt energized/motivated like that in a long time!

What would a checklist assessment for autism look like if it was based on how autistic people experience ourselves? This research team did a study to find out.

Interesting reading for all my & pals. @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd

@26pglt @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd This is wonderful on a first look. Incredibly important work, and what a wonderful and inspiring approach.

I'm 27 minutes into this video you recommended me on my other account: https://fb.watch/nsxiaiBcBF/

and I must say, it's brilliant.

I'm not just talking about its usefulness in clearing up theory quite a bit but also giving me something I can absolutely relate to personally.

I felt a need to stop and make this post because of the comment about demand avoidance.

Just a couple days ago when I was trying to assess my mental states through the lens of monotropism, the first thing I thought about was my demand avoidance, and a general reluctance to start attention-demanding or stressful tasks because of my fear of potentially being interrupted or distracted by environmental factors.

The mechanism I proposed for this was the countless times I was pulled out of my flow states (or simply the good and enjoyable times I've had, engaging with something that meant a lot to me) by some external, parental or societal demand, and how this recurring trauma (because it indeed is traumatic) taught me to avoid all kinds of behaviors which would decrease my alertness to the outside world.

Hearing the same thing on your discussion helped a lot for putting things into perspective. Thanks for the recommendation.
