A “haha, I got an obscure funny meme” tattoo is a terrible idea, but you do you.

darkphotonstudio ,

But Trogdor is cool.

darkphotonstudio , (edited )

This barely qualifies as news. Anyone with half a functioning brain knows that site is infested with Russian bots.

darkphotonstudio ,

They can be fun for a bit. I tend to get overwhelmed with all the crap I loot. I have the same problem with games like The Elder Scrolls series. I’m alway afraid I’ll accidentally sell something important or useful, but I usually end up with a lot of junk. Lol

darkphotonstudio ,

I’m not a programmer and I’ve been dual booting for 25 years.

darkphotonstudio ,

He said 1000 robots by next year. I can say I’ll train myself to poop gold and be a billionaire by next year. Isn’t it awesome how we can just make shit up and claim it to be real? The difference is, no one is buying stock in my gold poop scheme, which is about as legitimate as his 1000 autonomous robots claim.

darkphotonstudio ,

Tree fiddy.

darkphotonstudio ,

Experiencing humiliation requires a certain amount of self-awareness.

darkphotonstudio ,

Idk, I’ve blazed many times but never felt the need to constantly lie. That’s a him problem, not a cannabis problem. However, I do think you make a good point about Transformers. He has the mind of a child stuck in the 80s. The future is Transformers, RoboCop, Bladerunner, Total Recall, etc., to him, anyway.

darkphotonstudio ,

Well, I can always do what tech startups do and just make shit up! No pun intended.

'LLM-free' is the new '100% organic' - Creators Are Fighting AI Anxiety With an ‘LLM-Free’ Movement (www.theatlantic.com)

As soon as Apple announced its plans to inject generative AI into the iPhone, it was as good as official: The technology is now all but unavoidable. Large language models will soon lurk on most of the world’s smartphones, generating images and text in messaging and email apps. AI has already colonized web search, appearing in...

darkphotonstudio ,

Knee-jerk stupidity. Not all AI development revolves around “tech bros”.

darkphotonstudio ,

The internet was ruined before AI.

darkphotonstudio ,

Exactly, and if you are a trained artist, you can mop the floor with someone who only use prompts. I’ve been using the diffusion plugin for Krita and it is so powerful. You have the ability to paint, use layers and filters and near real-time AI fills. It’s awesome and fun.

darkphotonstudio ,

I’m sure it will be used a lot in the corporate space, and porn. As someone who did b2b illustration, good riddance. I wouldn’t wish that kind of shit “art” on anyone.

darkphotonstudio ,

I’m sorry, but it’s over. Just like photography killed miniature portrait painting. Or Photoshop killing off lab editing and airbrush touchup. Corporate art illustration is done and over with. For now, technical illustration is viable but I don’t know for how long. It sucks but this is the new reality.

darkphotonstudio ,

Yeah, that really sucks about the jobs. But that kind of work is soul sucking. Maybe some people like it, but I didn’t.

darkphotonstudio ,

I wouldn’t have a problem with all this scraping, if these companies had to release their models trained on this data as open source.

darkphotonstudio ,

Mozilla, I’m so disappointed but I shouldn’t be surprised. I guess I’ll be looking for a fork.

darkphotonstudio , (edited )

There are already a bunch of Firefox forks so I’m not sure what you mean.

darkphotonstudio ,

All the Tesla robots have advanced AI, i.e. will actually be controlled virtually by people in India.

darkphotonstudio ,

I look at art without paying anyone, I guess I’m stealing.

darkphotonstudio ,

Targeting an open source project. So brave, what a statement. /s

This has 0 effect on all the big AI companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, etc. All this does is make it harder for FOSS projects and leaves the corporations to dominate.

darkphotonstudio ,

And how’s that academic discourse working out on a service that caters to fascists and actively hates academia?

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Ok but you do see the problem with subsistence farming, no? Because at the end of the day, that’s what it is. If there is no movement of food to where it’s needed, and communities are insular, one bad harvest and people starve to death. You say you aren’t anti-technology, but what I’m seeing is anti-tech.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

That was helpful. I’m not convinced but it cleared up your personal ideas. I guess I see dangers that parallel mistakes made in the past by revolutionary governments. Things need to change but I have serious concerns. As much as I’d like to believe in a solarpunk future, what I’m reading doesn’t instill much confidence.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

I didn’t write that. I wrote, “subsistence farming”.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Yes, I’m picking up that “rugged individualist” energy. I did admit, I could be wrong. I guess I’m just looking for some sort of assurance that isn’t the case.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Because not everyone thinks the same way. I can appreciate the basic concept of solarpunk and would love to be able to say I’m all into it, but there are some important questions I personally need resolved. If I didn’t ask, I wouldn’t know. They may not be questions you have, however that doesn’t mean they’re not valid.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe it’s the way stuff is written that has given me a bad impression.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Thanks for the clarification!

darkphotonstudio OP ,

I think something about the style of writing or terms I’m not familiar with. Some of what I read on social media was off-putting, but it’s likely I misunderstood.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Yeah, thanks for clearing that up. I think I just got a bad impression from some posts I read and terms I may have misconstrued.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

I can’t think of much I’d rather not do than live on a farm. I’m from the Midwest (Indiana) and it is a backwards, intolerant place full of backwards, intolerant people. They have tech and they still suck. I also hate gardening so that’s also in my bottom 10. The ideals of solarpunk sound nice, but I don’t know how well that would play out in reality. I probably wouldn’t like it.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

What kind of society would you like?

Oh jeez, I’m not going to try and tackle that question right now, but I will say I’d like a much fairer one where people are taken care of.

I wonder what you think of art deco such as the Chrysler building.

I love Art Deco! The Chrysler building is beautiful, but I don’t think the world needs skyscrapers.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

Techy without nature? I don’t know where you’re going with this.

darkphotonstudio OP ,

My post was essentially a knee-jerk response to a blog I read. It’s not really all that important, I just thought it would make for a entertaining post. And it was.

darkphotonstudio ,

Poster slams poop off his butthole, sparks controversy!

darkphotonstudio ,

Oh Spotify, when will you stop trying to push people to the high seas

Spotify is worse than piracy. It’s a robber baron.

darkphotonstudio ,

All those middle managers will be displaced.

darkphotonstudio ,

Linux works for roughly 80% of what I do. The BIG missing piece is audio production. The software is mostly okay, it’s the actual audio system that’s the problem. Audio on Linux sucks big floppy donkey dicks. Yes, I know all about JACK (complicated and never works the way you think it should), RT kernels, Pipewire, etc. It’s all terrible.

darkphotonstudio ,

AI is certainly a bubble but Nvidia has been working on this stuff long before the hype. I don’t think you can easily dismiss them. Personally I don’t think the future of AI is giant data centres, it will be running in desktops GPUs and dedicated AI chips. It already is.

darkphotonstudio ,

Anti-AI is a brain-dead idea anyway. Artists should be more open with their art, not less. Yes, even with AI.

darkphotonstudio ,

Well, if you don’t copyright everything, then it’s not stealing. We need more open culture, not closed off “IP”.

darkphotonstudio ,

Ok, but that is beside the point. Copyright only serves the interests of large IP holders, like Disney.

darkphotonstudio ,

The same way they are now? Copyright is barely a protection for independent artists, and largely serves the interests of big “IP” holders like Disney.
