Hard to follow posts from Mastodon. I decided to follow @nostupidquestions to try it out and each comment that someone posts shows up as a boost and only sometimes is threaded. Time to check out .

cyanarchy ,

I don’t personally see this is a problem. I don’t think I understand how mastodon-format content can make any sense in the sea of posts with multi-threaded comments sections attached to specific communities.

Unless it’s just a case of using your lemmy account and handle on a federated mastodon server, which I could see the desire for, I just wouldn’t be the one who benefits.

Aren’t those the ones that have one gearing and just jump the RPMs up by rotating the vanes or something? All torque converter and no gearbox? Sorry if I’m way off base, I possess only approximate knowledge of many things.

cyanarchy ,

I second this, dbzer0 might be willing to entertain a community dedicated to this kind of thing.

cyanarchy ,

My brother in Christ you are talking about games that came out over twenty years ago.

cyanarchy ,

The bottom line is that I decide what content is received, interpreted, and rendered by my hardware. Youtube can kick and scream all they want, the nature of the internet is not in their favor. I prefer to directly support creators I follow, when and where I can.

cyanarchy ,

Unchecked profit motive.

I’m going to quote @morgan_423 from elsewhere in this thread:

I’m not going to reward them for these misbehaviors toward their user base by buying their “Premium” service. Same for any other site that does this and offers a “Premium service” to fix the problem that they, themselves, created. There are ways to have safe ads, and fair user experience even with them in play.

Mixplorer - aka MiX, the only file explorer I’ve ever needed. It’s intuitive enough for basic file browsing, but it can do heavy lifting tasks. I exclusively move files on and off my phone by starting an FTP server.

Pulsar - One of the only apps I’ve ever paid for, it’s a music player that does everything I want and nothing I don’t. I’m one of those nuts who still maintains a personal library of thousands of songs rather than using spotify or whatever.

MS Swiftkey Keyboard - I went looking for this when Swype was finally discontinued. Gesture typing wasn’t common yet and I still find google’s stock keyboard absolutely insufferable. Swiftkey lets me adjust the size and layout of the keyboard with far less restriction.

When RIF finally stopped working for me, it was giving error 429, which is Too Many Requests. I expect you’re getting lucky with whatever rate limiting scheme was implemented on reddit’s server side.

cyanarchy ,

I deleted the app, nothing for me there. Not planning to replace it with a lemmy app either, spent too much of the past ten years on reddit.

You better start believing in cyberpunk dystopias, matey.

You’re living in one.

cyanarchy ,

What has Google ever done to make you think the left hand knows a right hand exists?

cyanarchy ,

Holy shit, iusearchlinux.fyi, that’s fucking golden I might have to move.

But in addition, it felt like your character didn’t have a personality, they just had skills and things they were good at. Compared to four, where you can bring up your dead spouse and child and your prewar knowledge pretty regularly, for example.

This is the problem for folks like myself, who got to spend time with New Vegas when it was new. Your character is given to you, and you must play that role no matter how little you care. NV allows me to have a very specific conception of who my character is, right down to which lines I choose to deliver sarcastically, and I can express that character in nearly every interaction because I’m not tied to a wife and child I had all of 2.5 minutes to develop an emotional attachment to.

cyanarchy ,

I can’t comment on this, really. I’ve only played the first Witcher, and I thought it was charming, an opinion that many people seem to find incomprehensible. I tried getting into Witcher 2 and the world just would not hold my interest long enough for me to get any momentum. I haven’t played Witcher 3 and despite all the praise it gets, the fact that I’m playing a predefined character continually dampens my interest.

Blistering hot take, but if I don’t have pretty excessive control over my character I don’t consider it to be a ‘true’ RPG. I don’t bandy this around with elitist intent, I just find myself measuring games in the genre by their narrative chops when the bar to entry is seemingly down to game mechanics (see: Mass Effect, Red Dead, Deus Ex - Incredible games in the RPG genre, but I feel like I do not get to define my own Role to Play whatsoever).

cyanarchy ,

Yeah, but it felt good, didn’t it?

I use Arch, btw.

This power can be yours, comrade.

Not from Canonical.

[Withdrawn][Vote] Should we set a 24 hour voting period on c/Agora?

Currently there is no rule for when a vote is over, or when the vote is tallied. I propose we allow 24 hours from post creation to allow everyone in the community to have a chance to see and consider a proposal and vote. After 24 hours from post creation, the ‘polls’ would close and the votes can be tallied. Any votes cast...

cyanarchy ,

Nay

I agree with the idea that there should be a limit to how long voting is open, for practical reasons, but I think 24 hours is far too short. People’s lives are unpredictable and you might not have the chance to properly consider a community like this in that timespan. I think this is an important consideration if we want to foster a community of inclusion. I think a reasonable minimum might be 72 hours, and I would recommend a period closer to seven days.

A while back I went out of my way to acquire some used Xbox 360 games and fire up the old beast. I actually played Red Dead Redemption for the first time about a year ago. Some of those games I straight up haven’t touched, because I no longer have said console set up (and have been foraying into console emulation, which is constantly getting better)
