Void with Xfce has done wonders to my atom cpu with 2 GB of ram. Also iceWM has seen a new release that might worth checking

You can try Void. With 4 Gb it should be a breeze. I’m rocking it on a netbook with an atom processor and 2 GB of ram and I use Firefox on it without any issues.

You can try Bauh.

github

It manage appimages, flatpaks, snaps, AUR and repos.

Akregator and RSS Guard are both KDE oriented. Feature rich and highly customizable. On the phone I’ve used Read you, but lately switch to News.

Still can’t decide which one to uninstall. I think akregator looks better but RSS Guard seems to have a lot of development. I’ll keep running both.

Milei appoints former minister with pro-Nazi past as head of state lawyers (english.elpais.com)

The president-elect of Argentina, the far-right Javier Milei, appointed Rodolfo Barra, a former Minister of Justice forced to resign in 1996 due to his past in pro-Nazi organizations, as the future head of the State’s Attorneys this Friday. The appointment, which will take effect on December 10, generated rejection from the...

Apparently he apologized back in the 90’s, even the DAIA accepted his apologies. They’ve already stated that they’ll be monitoring him. His past doesn’t concerns the argentinian but what he can do in the future.

If that’s a spare, I would try chimeraOS, turn it into a “steam machine”. You would end up having access to arch at the same time.

I’ve already mentioned this a couple of time this week, so I hope no one get bothered. But I can’t recommend Xerolinux enough (page). I think it’s what you may like. Rolling release, gorgeous KDE, a ready to use as is system. I’ve been distro hopping for a while but this made me settled.

cocolopez ,
@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

I recently hopped to XeroLinux (page). Arch based, KDE already “riced”, it has a greeting app that lets you update with literally 1 mouse click, a number (1-4) and the enter key. It’s really nice looking, it’s fast and it’s ready to use. The only thing I added for it to be perfect was bauh app center, to manage flatpaks, packages and appimages (even sanps if you want to).

@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly 3° point of the requirements. Arch “the arch way” needs a lot of tinkering. But that’s just me. You might be right, maybe we should just encourage people to use debian, arch and Gentoo.

cocolopez ,
@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

You want Xerolinux. Ships with little, already configured and with beautiful looks, arch based.

Sms, now that’s a word I didn’t hear for a long time

9.1? Jajajajajajajajaja (laughs in argentinian 120% yearly inflation rate)

cocolopez ,
@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

I’m rocking a similar setup and running arch (btw) with kde, 0 issues so far. It feels snappy and I can even game on it.

Distro suggestions?

Currently running Kali on my laptop as that’s all it was used for. Looking for something more general purpose. Mainly steam for light gaming and being able to install the tools from Kali for stuff like tryhackme. Mostly familiar with Debian, as that’s what Kali is based on, but willing to try something else. Laptop is this...

Hear me out, grab ventoy, a decent USB drive (32-64 gb), download debian, kubuntu (maybe), fedora/mojara, any live arch derivative (endeavour, arco, artix. Stay away of Manjaro) and anything else you found appealing. Put all of them there and go nuts. At the end of the day, it’s always night.

cocolopez ,
@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

Also telegram is feature rich over signal. Son you have better user base and features in one hand versus e2e encryption by default on the other.

Artix or archbang. For the debian side, antix linux.

Official Unixporn Community on LemmyWorld (lemmy.ml)

Hey all! Mod team of r/unixporn here. After a couple weeks of work on our end, we finally have a Lemmy community at LemmyWorld that we’re committing to moderating in the long run. Additionally, due to Lemmy’s federation, you should be able to crosspost between here and there even if you don’t have an account on LemmyWorld....

Tomb raider GOTY from EPIC not running

Hi! I recently installed tomb Raider GOTY edition from epic on my PC running arch, through heroic launcher. Tried different ge-proton, proton and wine setups but the game doesn’t even launch. I’ve tried launching it through heroic, added it to steam and launched from there with same outcome. I didn’t even get an error nag....

Update.

Finally found the options but what make it work was disabling them. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it run at a playable frame rate. Funny enough other games works flawlessly with my potato setup

YSK: Signal is a great secure private messenger app comparable to others on the market. (restoreprivacy.com)

I totally understand your point, but far from being a sheep, I live in a country where Whatsapp is the standard even for government, healthcare, college, private work. On the other hand showing people an app that only do better on privacy, which should be enough but it doesn’t, but has no other appeals/features is a war lost before it’s start. I’m happy many of you could do the switch. Best I could do, and I know I’ll get ranted for this, was get as many people as I could to telegram. Please be gentle.

cocolopez ,
@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

I still try to understand Matrix.

cocolopez ,
@cocolopez@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t associate telegram with security nor privacy, I know its flaws, I just choose to use it instead of anything meta related. I understand it’s bad company X versus bad company Y. But as I said a perfect messenger app that has no user base is useless. I really wish things like signal or, even better, sessions became the mainstream way to communicate.

I feel quite the opposite. Hear me, if you stick your finger in penut butter and just clean it with paper, you can still taste it if you suck it. But of you wash it with water your truly clean. But didn’t want to sound like I was criticizing. Cheers
