"it takes a long time afterwards to understand what was “me” and what was “them.”

.Anyone can memory-foam,…but I feel it is especially common for autistics. And I have a few ideas why.

@ScottSoCal @Lotta @littlescraps @foolishowl @Ilovechai @autisticadvocacy @actuallyautistic @actuallyaudhd Gosh, that’s heartwarming. So glad the pets have helped you be yourself. Our cats and dog are the same us. Especially my youngest, who is selective mute and withdrawn. She tells one of the cats everything and is never judged. She can be as silly as she likes with the dog and gets nothing but love back

What are your thoughts on self-diagnosis being belittled by many in the autistic community?

For clarity, I’m not asking to start a debate, just a genuine discussion. I currently don’t have the option to get a diagnosis, but feel fairly confident that the research I’ve done over the past year and a half has been legitimate and credible.

I don’t feel comfortable saying that I am definitively autistic, but I am ok with saying I’m “self-suspecting.” @actuallyautistic

@chevalier26 @actuallyautistic sounds to me like you are trying your best not to offend officially diagnosed people, by identifying as self-suspecting. Not sure where you are, but in the UK it is difficult to get diagnosed without money for a private assessment. Self-diagnosis or (parent diagnosis, for children) is all that can be done whilst waiting four years to get to the top of the NHS waiting list for assessment

Can anyone recommend a true crime podcast where they actually solve the crime? @actuallyautistic teen is finding it very frustrating. Enjoys true crime - loves the investigative side - but thinks what’s the point if it doesn’t go anywhere. She’d like to listen to one where it comes to a conclusion on who the guilty party is

I hate working in openspaces with no option to go to a quiet place. Right now there are two phone calls and three conversations around me in a mix of four languages(I know all, and my brain choses randomly on which sounds to focus), and the task documentation I’m writing right now has to have very careful and precise wording, and I keep re-reading the same paragraph over and over again and don’t even get what I’m saying.

@olena @actuallyautistic me and my kids have these. I get really sore with most earplugs but have found these good. They let direct conversation sound through but tone down background noise. So don’t have to take them out talk to people, but feel less overwhelmed in general because a lot of unnecessary sound is filtered out
