Why is defederation an option when Limit/Mute exist?

In short i just jumped into the whole Mastodon blocking drama and am somewhat disappointed to see it as childish as reddit’s power mod drama. Accelerated by the fact that a Limit/Mute option exist just fine, i wonder why Block/Defederation is an option at all. It only moves power from the user to admins without anything in...

Why are all the instances defederated from each other?

@fediverse

Has there been drama over there or something?

I feel very strong against ActivityPub "bridging" with any corporate controlled systems.

I'm not on Twitterdumb or Fakebook and I sure as hell don't want to be. THAT is why I'm here. I briefly thought about connecting with them and then I visited them again. Those corporations are only going to mine ActivityPub for profit.

I'm an admin for , all completely funded out of pocket. Why the hell do I want to pay for advertising from them? Why do I want to see the hate cesspool here?

It has been absolutely incredible here and bring them in, would destroy this world. I and our admins have already talked and when that crap comes here, we will block them.

Humm, they do charge for some options like the "business account" but have blocked even allowing you to use an email reader that is not theirs. I know, I've been trying use all the things that used to be free...

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone started looking into a LinkedIn type ActivityPub 😂

Not thrilled about it being a "paid" service though. I've not been on here for a year yet but this is the first I've heard of anyone wanting to do a paid for ActivityPub....

At MPAQ, we run 4 Internet radio stations, an XMPP server, Beamship and working on an email server.

We have donation buttons but very rarely does anyone send anything.

99.9% of our cost is working small jobs here and there. I think our network admin will agree with me when I say: Our services will ALWAYS be free. And as a way to introduce our team:

As big as it takes because we will never be part of the capitalist/corporate/colonized system again. Good luck when your money means nothing anymore.

Ya, this isn't Fakebook or Twitterdumb, fortunately

Sublinks Aims to Be a Drop-In Replacement for Lemmy (wedistribute.org)

Seems like an interesting effort. A developer is building an alternative Java-based backend to Lemmy’s Rust-based one, with the goal of building in a handful of different features. The dev is looking at using this compatibility to migrate their instance over to the new platform, while allowing the community to use their apps...
