Do you leave a tip for housekeeping if you're only staying one night in a hotel?

Is it a ‘thank you for prepping my room’ or ‘please clean my room today’? If you tip post cleaning, it’s likely going to someone else the next day. Many hotels now only do housekeeping on demand. How do employees feel about this - do they miss the tips or are they happy for a less stressful workday?...

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

If I tip I generally do it based on the work/effort rather than the price.

I have a Dell Laptop (Latitude 7390) where I changed in the bios some option to maximize battery longevity and 6 years later it still lasts quite a lot.

So offline (external) bitlocker drives that are unlocked with the key only.

Or internal bitlocker drives that are unlocked with AMD fTPM are excluded from this exploit?

TLDR:

The Ministry of Culture (and a few more: Social Development, Education, Women, Labor) will all get merged into a new one called Ministry of Human Capital.

Wearing deodorant has nothing to do with bathing regularly.

You can bath regularly and not need deodorant, every body is different. Also depends on the activities done between each bath/shower.

Now some people do not bath regularly and use deodorant or perfume, that never ends up well in terms of odor.

Generally companies get lower tax rate than physical persons with 10+ years experience in many european countries. And the rich have all assets in their companies. In my opinion it should be lowered to match the same as the companies. As for the lower class that can barely afford stuff with a basic salary in some EU countries, stay very low or just null.

30% fee and they still charge you extra money to be able to play a paid game online.

In contrast to this (only 2 years to fix the inflation issues. The inflation that has been around since 2002~). He also mentioned in his first speech that the country would take 35 years to go back as a world power if everything goes well. (Source 13:25/15:31)

I do not think this will happen (hope I’m wrong), knowing the country’s recent history, but I don’t disagree with the time. This stuff is very long term and needs many years of success to happen.

Many people in Argentina think that all the stuff can be fixed in just 2 or 3 years. But truth is, it can improve, but will need lot more than that to reach a “world power” / “first world country” level.

On the other hand, the level of corruption is so high, that by just reducing it, it would make wonders.

I use the “barracuda X” it’s black no RGB. It has both Bluetooth and low latency wireless.

I use it mainly in Windows (work/gaming) and PS5 (gaming).

In Linux I used it for gaming too. The only difference is that sometimes the gain in the drivers is very high. But I think it could be my problem (for messing with the drivers in the past months) maybe I need a clean install.

amenotef , (edited )
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t remember well. But: price in the X was good enough for me like 100€ maybe a bit less.

And secondly. The detachable microphone that can be located close to the mouth. That was a deal breaker for me because I use the headset to work (Microsoft teams) and play with friends (Warzone). And I like my voice to be as clear as possible. Especially if I have the windows open and some background noise.

So in short. I prefer unidirectional microphones that point to your mouth and if they are closer (so the gain doesn’t need to be high), better.

@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I just hope that in the long term the country can finally liberate the people who are currently economically dependent on the state. So they can find their own economic path, no matter who is ruling.

They always give you money in Argentina. For exchange of a future vote, of course. But nobody really cares about giving you a way out where you are in charge and capable of finding and getting your own work and opportunities.

And the inflation, as always, eats the lowest class first, the one that has less opportunities to find a new job. And less capable of saving money. Remember that. The very high inflation is indirectly murdering people.

I must confess that sometimes fast travel removes a lot of value from a game. While it saves you a lot of time like a cheat. Cheats also save you time.

@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I recently played hitman 3 with Lutris on Kubuntu in Epicstore.

Sync was working well. Game was running well.

It is not Steam (which has a native Linux installation), but at least it works.

If the price is the same I go with steam, if epic is much cheaper I go with epic.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

It was really straightforward to be honest. But I did it 2 weeks ago.

Maybe 6-12 months ago was more difficult.

I installed Lutris I opened it, then installed epic store Then I logged in and installed hitman.

To play I have to open lutris > epic store > hitman 3.

I have a budget Samsung 55" NU7400 and I can’t see shit while playing a PS5 game with HDR during the day. I need to close the blackout curtains otherwise I see my face reflected.

Next TV I buy I will do some research and spend a bit more money, 120Hz, more nits, VRR, etc.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for the hints. So that means that in a bright room, a TV with 1500+ nits is ideal for HDR right?

But even with a 1500 nits TV, HDR will be still much better in a dark room? (Where OLED shines?).

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

One thing that I also noticed is that my monitor (which has i think 350 nits / LG 27GL850-B) it is much easier and clear to see at direct sunlight because of the anti-glare screen.

But I doubt that antiglare/matte displays is a thing you find on TVs.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Aesthetically I prefer the old one.

But if you have to travel with the PS5 from time to time. (Example going to a second home for a week or more) I’d totally go with the new one as it fits a bit better on a backpack.

amenotef , (edited )
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Indeed. I have my TV on a TV desk and behind it there is a huge mess of cables, all kind of hidden.

On my desk I have:

  • ISP modem,
  • personal router
  • gigalan powered switch
  • VPN server (edgerouter X)
  • Toslink hifi dac
  • passive preamp with IR receiver to control the volume
  • The TV
  • x2 powered monitors (KRK RP6G3).
  • PS5 console
  • One headphone amp that lately I’m not using (Lyr 2) and I think I’ll reallocate.
  • A CCWGTV
  • And one HDMI cable coming from the PC.

I use the desk to organise/hide everything. If I didn’t have it this would be a horrible mess.

I’m never ditching 27" 1440p for a bigger resolution like 4K or ultrawide.

amenotef , (edited )
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah and on the living room with a big screen (I got a PS5 recently) I think the PS5 is doing lot of 1440p FSR upscaling.

And it still looks nice on a 4K TV.

Offtopic (because it has nothing to do with Russia): in Argentina the inflation of the local currency this year reached at least 100% annual.

But people there use USD fiat for purchasing real estate. And use USD/EUR for saving.

So even if the local currency is a mess, people moves using foreign currency for important transactions.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I recently got a PS5 and I only buy offline games because of this.

They should release maybe some 20€ annual plan just including online gaming and maybe 500MB of cloud storage for saves.

But having to pay for this is a disadvantage Vs PC games and having to pay like 74€ per year is even worse.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

If you say this you give a shit about quality of life.

Milei probably has a small resemblance with DT. Maybe just a small percentage, but that is enough to call him a Full DT by the press in the rest of world. It is just cheap press.

The guy has a lot of cons and pros. But he is not a DT. He is mainly an economist. Not a businessman.

Argentina as always is a sinking ship with a lot of holes. Every year there are more holes. They still have not found a party that can close those holes. And there were only 3 big parties.

Perhaps a new party (like the one from Milei) manages to start closing some of those holes. Perhaps they keep opening holes like the current party. Even if you put the best party ever made, it would take 15-30 years maybe more to recover. You have a lot of adults that never worked (legally) and live from the state. It takes time to educate the new generations letting them know that money is not always a free thing that comes without working. (And you cannot tell them “now you have to find a job” in the short term otherwise the country will go violent. Therefore no matter how far right the party is. It always end up adapting to a situation to control the masses that requires socialism).

Time will tell about what will happen if the same party (probably was the worst government in the past 30 years) wins the election. But nowadays the country is at worst since I was born. 40% poverty (oficial, real is perhaps higher ), 100+% annual inflation (not even the old 20-30% annual). It is probable that the current government will never leave and will stay on power just like it happens in many other countries, like Venezuela. (While it is still a totally different country, we always compare to Venezuela because the current party always liked Venezuela as a role model to follow).

I hope not! But with 40+% poverty… soon there will not be enough tax payers to cover the costs but maybe hyperinflation puts a stop to the excess of public spending (printing ARS money) to solve any problem.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Argentina has above 100% annual inflation at the moment, right?

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I never said that…

Google Pixel 8's Tensor G3 GPU tests show weak performance but decent efficiency (m.gsmarena.com)

Google teamed up with Samsung once again to build the Tensor G3, the chipset that powers the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. It comes out of Samsung’s 4nm foundries and features a 9-core CPU (1x Cortex-X3 + 4x A715 + 4x A510) and an ARM Mali-G715 GPU.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Performance I don’t give a shit.

But efficiency I care a lot especially in a laptop. Much more on the phone.

Pixel 5 with a 3 year old mid range SoC can run android 14 UI at 90 FPS pretty much fine.

amenotef , (edited )
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah so for Pixel 8 you just need a bit more for 120Hz instead of 90Hz.

A different story is for gaming. But for mobile gaming I’m more a fan of Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Devices that have higher TDP.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I’m glad I opened the video because this game I didn’t know looks like a dark souls and now I’m definitely adding it to my wishlist!

And also it is 4K60 FPS!

I don’t think that switching to USD is the best solution. But at least it should limit the ridiculous amount of money printed. The inflation in Argentina is crazy.

In Spain if we were the only owners of the Euro we would be printing money to solve absolutely any problem. Generating even more inflation.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

USD It is the second most popular currency in Argentina.

And the first choice for savings.

(I’d prefer EUR rather than USD as it’s more decentralised).

amenotef , (edited )
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Some prices are crazy in my opinion.

I generally buy 2 year old games except in some cases.

And in the consoles they are even more expensive. Game price could be higher than on PC and then you also need to pay an expensive subscription (because they charge you for a lot more things than just the multiplayer costs) to be allowed to play in multiplayer.

The player base is also bigger than before. While that needs more post sales support and more infrastructure it is nothing compared to the game.

I think in short the problem here is just the wrong forecasting when planning the game.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

I play these games with DualSense even on PC.

My dad has one expiring this year. I told him next time to get some regular laptop with AMD Zen and use it in Windows and if he misses Chrome OS I can just install some light Linux distribution.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Actually…consumers end up paying for it. Companies will just increase prices as when the Government taxes them.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Also valid. Yeah

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

Well I don’t have an original quality cloud backup. So eventually I move the DCIM folder back to my PC.

That being said. I haven’t tried “Nearby” to move a 30GB folder with hundreds of items to the PC. Maybe that works fine already. (For a few items it’s very fast as long as you have a fast WiFi network).

If you want to keep it installed but automatically “disabled” 10 seconds after the screen goes off. Try “Ice Box” app. It will remain disabled until the next app launch.

Remote or hybrid workers, would you rather work a 4 day week on site, or WFH completely for 5 days a week, for the same pay?

I know this will vary a lot, so hypothetically let’s say you currently WFH/work remotely at least 3 days a week. Your commute to work takes an hour max (door to door) each way. If you were given the choice of a 4 day week working onsite, or a 5 day week WFH (or as many days as you’d like) for the same pay, which would you...

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

For me. 100% remote.

But I work more for objectives rather than gross time/days. If the project is falling behind I work extra to gain some safeguard. If the project is going well I work more relaxed.

I don’t mind working extra hours if I’m already saving a lot of time avoiding travelling to the client or going to the office, living in another place away from a city. Etc.

how to optimize battery life?

So I recently bought a new honor magic 5 pro. My last phone the Huawei p20 pro was around 5 years old and started to show significantly less battery life. So I want to use this phone again for 5 years. But now I wonder should I keep the battery around 50% (65-35) and charge twice as often or should I 80-20 and charge once every...

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

In my pixel 5 for the past 2.5 years I charged using the “adaptive battery” slow charging function. (Which charges the phone in like 6 hours).

And during the day I charged up to 80% or 90% when my battery was going low for the rest of the day.

Also I was charging the phone every 2 or 3 nights because in the pandemic I was not using it a lot.

I think now the battery life is about the same. Maybe 5% worse than new. But it is also hard to test this because the os and the apps and the usage changed between day 1 and today.

An app called “Batt” reports 564 charging cycles though.

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

In Spain it is also yearly. In general the annual salary is divided in 14 payments, unless you ask to have it divided by 12, depends on the employer, so it makes sense.

The income tax is also annual based. So depending how much you earned during the fiscal year you have a different tax rate. (And part of the income tax rate is dependent on the “state” but they are all more or less similar).

amenotef ,
@amenotef@lemmy.world avatar

It freezes the app preventing background usage.

It’s like the “disable” option that you have in system apps. But for user apps. In fact, once you disable them if you search them in play store they appear with an “enable” button.

The advantage is that your userdata is still there. And you can quickly open it (unfreeze) from the Ice Box app.
