Another vote for Antennapod.

Now that it has **rudimentary Ad-Skipping **

You can set et to skip X seconds in the beginning and Y seconds at the end of each podcast individually.

Maybe one day we will get Sponsor block integration for crowd sourced ad skipping , or AI using the crowd sourced skip points as a guide to fine-tune skipping on device , ( everyone tends to get different length advertisements , depending on targetting or region )

Are there any CPUs that work well with Linux that aren't made by Intel or another company on the BDS list/that supports Israel?

I have a Ryzen 3 1300X at the moment and it’s always had this soft lock freezing bug on Linux. I used to dual-boot Windows on this machine and Windows never had the same problem, so I think it is an issue with the Linux kernel (I’ve also replaced nearly every bit of hardware that I originally built the PC with, except for...

That is ACC, still alive and kicking. Here is a gui front end for it, you can get it from fdroid or GitHub github.com/MatteCarra/AccA

Music Piracy Is Back, Baby (gizmodo.com)

“Muso, a research firm that studies piracy, concluded that the high prices of streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are pushing people back towards illegal downloads. Spotify raised its prices by one dollar last year to $10.99 a month, the same price as Apple Music. Instead of coughing up $132 a year, more consumers...

The some of the old music sites are still there. But I would avoid torrentgalaxy.to it has curated weekly albums of top playlists from Spotify, tiktok, etc that have all the new stuff updated every week, for your local playback displeasure. Only uncool people play locally stored music, all the cool kids stream. Do not go there.

Looking for the simplest means of playing videos from a USB storage device on a non-smart TV

Having already configured a VLC-powered Google TV configuration with USB hard drives for a relative without the router or download speed needed for reliable streaming, I’m now trying to configure a similar setup for another relative with a non-smart TV and an even slower download speed....

+1 on that.

But…by the time you put together the bill of quantities for the Pi, Case, Power brick, Active cooling, remote… The 1080p Firestick becomes cheaper. The Firesticks advert filled UI can be wrangled using a custom launcher.

Custom launcher like Wolf Launcher,Yes. Not a custom ROM.

Years ago a $9.99 el cheapo Walmart DVD player was my first USB media player on an old CRT TV.

I did go with a Pi option for the main TV, for the secondary one picked a discounted Firestick + wolflauncher using this tutorial troypoint.com/wolf-launcher/

The Pi does a lot more 💪 besides media playback for the TV while it’s on , but the Firestick was $19.99 at some sale 🤷

SmartTube - an advanced player for set-top boxes and tv running Android OS (github.com)

I’ve already been paying for YouTube Premium for many years to get rid of advertisement, and I’ve been using SponsorBlock for a year or so on my laptop to skip the inline ads, but because most of my watching of YouTube happens on the TV I always had to use the remote to skip it. It helps to see the “most rewind” area so...

For the phone the easiest way is NewPipe with Sponsorblock github.com/polymorphicshade/NewPipe

One step above it , slightly more involved is ,YouTube-Revanced. The step by step walkthrough is in this thread, no command line stuff just follow the steps religiously. www.reddit.com/r/revancedapp/comments/xlcny9/_/

That makes sense, comments are an issue with NewPipe. Please open an issue on the NewPipe GitHub about that and the watch-later list.

The functionality will only get added if users ask for it. The idea for NewPipe in the beginning was a light-weight YouTube frontend with offline subscriptions ( i.e. no need to login ). Bits and bobs got added as and when user requests came in.

How Much Does It Cost to Charge an Electric Vehicle? (A comparison at home and on the road, with gasoline)::Few people know what a kilowatt-hour costs them, so they don’t realize how cheap EV home charging is versus gasoline. On the road, it’s more complicated.
