During COVID Some of us were “essential workers” and others got to complain about being stuck at home. But that was a minor gripe of mine. I would argue that arguing that people belonging to different strata of working class is about as useful as separating people by race. For the most part any conversation that doesn’t specify the need for the separation there is only one human race, and there is only the working class against the owning class.

The PAC may have considered the costs strategic value. Trump is their nominee, and his removal would cause a power vacuum. This would splinter the vote-base and hand the victory to the democrats.

As for the individuals who still donated… if after all the horrible bullshit the republicans have done, well not paying trumps fees and risking his removal would be akin to not participating at all. So they have no choice but to be satisfied with the cost.

But it does point out the quagmire that drains the PAC’s funds that could have been used in the campaign, and thats an obstacle of their own making.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

This is all a weird argument to take against my statement. There is no question that if trump is removed from the ballot that those who could take his place would fracture the party vote. Even if there was no one to replace him, or the party mandated who his replacement would be, states that individually remove him from the ballot would literally have a voting hole that no other candidate could fill, and cut into trumps vote block. His removal is the vacuum. It is the mechanism for change you agreed to with the phrase “no fucking shit, Sherlock”

YSK: If a problem you're experiencing doesn't show up in search results, could be a sign you're looking at the wrong issue

Why YSK: I had this experience this morning. I was raging because the “alt + tab” shortcut had changed on my work computer when it worked fine yesterday. Now it opened the task view, but wouldn’t switch windows unless I clicked on a different program....

More and more i find its because search engines are terrible at their job. But with google fu, and culling advertiser key words from possible search results i can find what i am looking for… half way down the page

Russia fires a top geneticist who claimed people could live to 900 before sins caused Biblical flood (apnews.com)

Russia’s science and higher education ministry has dismissed the head of a prestigious genetics institute who sparked controversy by contending that humans once lived for centuries and that the shorter lives of modern humans are due to their ancestors’ sins, state news agency RIA-Novosti said Thursday....

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I do when they are making unsubstantiated claims about “truth” in their field of study. If a geneticist claims that people lived longer because of peer review evidence shows their genetic makeup up allows for it would be one thing. But to make that claim when he should know better means he can’t be trusted and is already abusing his position

I don’t remember saying “every” in my post. I do recall being specific on the conditions when it is a problem.

Whitewashing… you keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.

White washing means to attempt to change history to make something seem less bad than it actually was, or who someone was.

Do you mean cultural appropriation? Though saying it like that kinda damns your point of view.

Alabama calls nitrogen execution method 'painless' and 'humane,' but critics raise doubts (apnews.com)

Alabama, unless stopped by the courts, intends to strap Kenneth Eugene Smith to a gurney Thursday and use a gas mask to replace breathable air with nitrogen, depriving him of oxygen, in the nation’s first execution attempt with the method....

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, its the same response knowing you are going to be executed. No method of execution is going to prevent what you propose is a problem with the new method. Same thing when you set up the lethal injection and then slowly go through the stages of the cocktail.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

This wasn’t the discussion about whether or not we should perform executions. But whether using this gas is better if its going to be done. And it is obviously if compared to what is used now. And the argument that executing people with this gas would be traumatic is a moot point when you know what the alternative is.

If saturated fat is the most unhealthy part of cooking oils, then why don't we remove it?

I noticed that almost all types of cooking oil (vegetable oil, olive oil, peanut oil, etc) contain some saturated fat. Since saturated fat is known to be a contributor to heart disease, then could you simply remove the saturated fats from the oil to make it healthier?

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I am so sick of this. Everything is bad for you, horribly sourced, unsustainable, promotes slave labor, has/is “evil” gmo. No one is in agreement and there is so much bad information out there and what info there is is buried behind a pay wall in a scientific paper i don’t know is there, and do not have the time or energy to decipher. The wealth of all human knowledge could be at my finger tips but the only reliable info are cat pictures.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Right, but a concrete “we don’t know” from a source that is the end all of what a study finds is needed. Because right now everyone and their mother is a arbiter of the “truth” corporate interest and idiocy have choked all reputable data to death. You can not rely on journalists to interpret studies, as their motivation is based on money one way or another. Obviously there is a problem with corruption when that authority is centralized but right now either ignorance or malice is a given

Can we apply this methodology of Chinas in how they treat their neighbors, and “wont seek to “own” outer-space” and do so at the benefit of the world and compare it to how they treat Taiwan, Hong Kong, and international waters? Oh to shreds you say?

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Ah so you made my point anyway

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Tibet

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

And yet the argument was never “do these places need to be independent?” But “can China be trusted with dominion over space based on how they treat international waters and their neighbors.” You will notice that i did not specify any particular action or event. But you are already here with excuses for events and actions. Hence me mentioning that you are making my argument for me. Because you did that i already know, you know i am right to not trust china, and also you have a vested interest in me not being right.

WraithGear ,

The law is not “powerless” that would assume politicians wanted to stop this from happening.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Well, i would assume the only relevant country would be the one the actors claim citizenship to. But assuming the country is against this, any power to stop it would be akin to stopping piracy. Its the same problem essentially, and we still derive a measure of success with some anti piracy measures, international pirates not withstanding

The only people who consider this a lose lose would not vote for him either way. But it galvanizes his base. Especially when you consider certain people would rather blame the mother. How they justify this blame is the only creativity i have seen from such people.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Which again falls on the company not following proper safety, which was the point. This was a foreseeable problem, and the fact that the arm was “looking” for and able to reach for a box of “peppers”, means it was not in the right state to trouble shoot. If the device has no safety mechanisms that would allow safe maintenance then the machine must be replaced. But they don’t have good standards in a lot of countries.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I mean it sounds like they consider Holy book burning a chargeable hate crime… so it already kinda is.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

How would burning a holy book not be a direct condemnation on a practically specific religion? My issue is with the country that charged the victim for making a statement. Then again i am american and for all the problems we have over here, you face no charges for demonstration against a religion by burning their holy book. They have it coming.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Yea thus law makes me think less of Germany, i kinda get it as a protection for minority religions due to the Holocaust. But i am against the censoring of non violent protest. No religion is above direct and harsh rebuke

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

The article states that the person who was attacked is also getting charged for hate crimes for burning a holy book. You should be allowed to demonstrate in such ways. No religion is above such rebuke

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

That’s because burning a cross on the lawn of a black man is not a protest. Its a direct threat that the klu klux clan has targeted this black man for murder. And usually it gets plead down to harassment, which itself is not taken as seriously as it should.

Religion? They Do not deserve such protection that it can’t be demonstrated against. I think less of a country that by law sensors a persons right to demonstrate against monolithic institutions

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

That last part doesn’t sound like a very good idea.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I see the decision you made as the ultimate end to this path you and lemmy world tread. At this rate all federations should defederate each other, or just shut down the whole fediverse. We can go back to individual hyper-specific forums on phbb again.

I mean there is obviously a line between what should federated and what should not. But i feel the reasoning here is fundamentally different then the others chosen in the past.

WraithGear ,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I went with lemmy world so i could catch the widest net in content. And up till now i agreed with the reasoning of the other defederating.s But it seems like it won’t take much to provoke more restrictions. Guess i will have to lurk in other shores.

What are the benefits to the US Electoral College system?
