Day 12 challenge: Choose 20 that greatly influenced you. One per day, for 20 days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers*

(I've already been doing this over on Bluesky and am several days in, so I'm going to do my best to not get mixed up on the days I'm on 😆) @bookstadon @horrorbooks

*I read these simultaneously while staying w/ an Aunt for the summer. I genuinely can't remember which I started first & both massively impacted me.

Day 12

An illustration of a house with Hitchcock's face in it and a ghostly figure running in front of the house in the yard

@stina_marie @horrorbooks @bookstodon I love those old Alfred Hitchcock anthologies. I bought a bunch on Thriftbooks

Happy Weekend!
I laughed way too hard at this, but with all the non stop ads on tv for weight loss drugs this cracked me up. @horror

I could relate to Sloane's feeling of being unseen as a woman getting older, no longer viewed as someone who matters, while the horror fan in me was enjoying the creepy vibe and carnage. @horrorbooks @horror My review of So Thirsty is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2024/05/so-thirsty-by-rachel-harrison.html

@stina_marie @horrorbooks @horror the only other book by her that I tried was The Return and I ended up tossing it in the DNF pile. There's some horror horror in this one but it's also soap opera-ish like the Sookie Stackhouse books

I've only read the first story so far but for something that's supposed to be "darker" I'm disappointed. @horrorbooks @horror

@stina_marie @horror I'm up to 4 now too. I was hoping for something along the vein of his Full Dark No Stars except darker.

@kimlockhartga @horrorbooks @horror I skipped Fairy Tale. Sad to say King is not an automatic buy for me anymore because his books are expensive and there have been a few that I did not care for at all. The last book I bought by him that I enjoyed was "Later"
I am 4 stories into You Like It Darker and the first one bored me but the next 2 were good. This 4th one is starting to drag on a bit.

@kimlockhartga @horrorbooks @horror I bought a kindle copy of The Institute but still never got around to it yet. Later was not really horror either but it was a good story.

Eight-year-old Bela is the only child in a dysfunctional family full of secrets. Bela has also been keeping her own secret from Mommy and Daddo. She's been talking to an entity that hides in her closet. Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman brought back all of my childhood nightmares. I had to step away from this book more than once because it was scaring me. I watched Abigail last night and I feel like this has been done before. The titles escape me at the moment but I have seen more than one movie where kidnappers end up finding out that it's not really a child they are holding for ransom. @horror

@KentuckyConjurer @horror yes! I was thinking it might have been like an old episode of Tales From The Darkside or Tales From The Crypt but I think you are right that it was an anthology movie not a tv series

Would you let a stranger in your house if they said they used to live there and wanted permission to take a quick look inside? Eve did. She shouldn't have answered the door. 📽️ INFESTED (aka VERMINES) was great, creepy-crawly fun. An entertaining movie that's... um... infested with exactly what you expect, and filled with many moments that make you cringe, shudder, or jump.

Not recommended for those with arachnophobia, but heartily recommended for weirdos like me that are excited to be horrified/terrified 😂

The newest issue of my favorite horror magazine Nightmare Abbey is out now. The article on the history of horror comics was enlightening and fun, whether you enjoyed them as a kid or are too young to have lived in those glorious days of perusing through gruesome tales and gory illustrations. As always the short horror stories are the star. The illustrations are awesome too. @horror My review is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2024/04/nightmare-abbey-5-edited-by-tom-english.html

@stina_marie @horror to be honest I didn't care for it. I know he is considered one of the greatest but Ramsey Campbell has always been kind of hit or miss with me. It was not spooky or scary
