📽️ IN A VIOLENT NATURE
Yeah, I am NOT the target audience for this very serious slasher.
I need my slashers to have a kind of demented glee/deranged ridiculousness coupled with their gore. If it's not a bit over-the-top, I don't get much enjoyment from nothing but death death death
It had a kill I'll never see again, though- I'll give it that.
I’ve just rewatched the Warcraft movie, after 8 years since its release. I have read several books of the saga, so I already knew the story pretty well even before the release of this film in 2016. I also played a lot of World of Warcraft in my life and I can say that the movie is so hasty and ambitious script (in the bad sense). But I can’t deny the nostalgia of returning that universe.
Counting down to the US election, plan ahead to bring civics lessons alive for your learning community with BRIDGE OF SPIES. Our free discussion guide for this Oscar-winning Steven Spielberg film explores the subject of foreign assets operating in the US during the Cold War & the implications for today.
📽️ A region-free Blu-ray box set for the #HellHouseLLC franchise will be released in October and you can preorder the Special Edition now, which will only be available through the Umbrella Home Entertainment website.
I watched THE FIRST OMEN on #Hulu last night and it was rad. I thoroughly enjoyed it- it's well-done, creepy, disturbing, and surprisingly artful in a lot of its imagery & cinematography.
It also has me pondering a question:
Would the Catholic Church be pro-abortion, if the fetus in question was proven to be the Anti-Christ? 🤔
"According to Edward Pentin of the National Catholic Register, the film will cover the events leading up to the Resurrection, but will also follow the intrigues that took place in Herod's palace and conclude with the events that took place in Jerusalem on Easter Sunday."
HISTORY OF THE OCCULT was fucking awesome. Many favorite things, done in an innovative & imaginative way- w a truly satisfying conclusion in the best/worst way that keeps you thinking once it's over. Highly recommend if you want to watch a thoughtful, well made cosmic political horror film (you do!)
📽️ I discovered earlier that HISTORY OF THE OCCULT is available on #Kanopy, so I guess tonight's movie is settled.
(It's also on #Tubi for those of you who don't have Kanopy, but if you have a library card in the U.S., I beseech you to check and see if you can access their amazing library of #films.)
📽️ INFESTED (aka VERMINES) was great, creepy-crawly fun. An entertaining movie that's... um... infested with exactly what you expect, and filled with many moments that make you cringe, shudder, or jump.
Not recommended for those with arachnophobia, but heartily recommended for weirdos like me that are excited to be horrified/terrified 😂
Got my Special Edition Blu-ray of THE BORDERLANDS (AKA FINAL PRAYER in the U.S.) from Second Sight Films and it is GORGEOUS. It comes with 6 art cards and a 70 page book with a bunch of essays about the film. 😍
ALL YOU NEED IS DEATH is a folk horror movie of Atmosphere. If you expect everything presented/explained neatly, you may be frustrated- but there IS a logic here, of murder ballads & fairy tales. If you want a well crafted, creepy, unique film about the enigma & power of songs, you'll dig its vibe.
🎥 I'm either watching POOR THINGS on #Hulu, or SATANIC HISPANICS on #Shudder tonight. Not sure which one will win out as I want to see them both very badly.
🎨 But before that, ART! I have a painting & illustration for two different projects I NEED to complete, and an illustration for MEEEE.
It's a solid, relatively smart #slasher.
It's definitely a #HORROR#movie w lots of gore. Roth's stuff always seems +5 pts too mean spirited for me. Maybe it's that his gore is so realistic, or that I don't find his movies joyfully deranged so much as misanthropic.
While I appreciate that it got made, & ALSO how many things from the OG #Grindhouse trailer got incorporated in some way, I still feel like the 2007 faux trailer is the superior movie, lol.
📽️🍿 This was another interesting & audacious film from the Adams Family, who stayed true to their core sensibilities and once again provided a movie that was weird, unique, and landed the ending. Ymmv, but I really enjoyed & appreciated it. Be a good double feature with Browning's FREAKS.
I love #books that tell the story about making a #movie.
For example:
Lillian Ross's 'Picture' about the making of The Red Badge of Courage
Katharine Hepburn's 'The Making of the African Queen: Or How I Went to Africa With Bogart, Bacall and Huston and Almost Lost My Mind'
Both coincidentally involving director John Huston.
