[email protected] is correct. We’ll never fix anything in the US. I used to be hopefulbut there’s just now ay as long as people buy into the BS conservatives sell.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

Hopefully you won’t run into the problem I had with my older car- parts availability. It’s only going to get worse as cars get older. Especially with the electronics.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

Most public transit in my state goes where you don’t want to go and takes 3 times as long to get there. I remember a while back when the tax renewal came up there was a story in the local paper about a woman who was using the bus to get to work and it took 2 hours for what was a 15 minute drive even in traffic.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

That’s an advantage of a high volume car like a Camry.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

Agreed. M is definitely the sweet spot for tech right now.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I’ve never heard of pigeon management but I have heard something similar described as playing chess with a pigeon as someone who “knocks all the pieces over, shits on the board then struts aroind like they’ve won”.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

And you can still drive 13 hours and stay in Texas.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I’m sure Ben Shapiro will work wokeness into it somehow.

The fact that no bond companies would accept real property as a collateral for the bond and only liquid or easily liquified assets points to the properties being leveraged to the hilt. If he ends up having to pay even a portion of this and has to start selling properties we should see a true picture of his financial status.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

He’s got to be fuming. He’s managed to go 75 years without ever being held accountable by anyone for anything. And now it’s happening. He’ll drain the RNC by August.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I think the reason it was such an issue with Trump is I can’t think of another president that had the infrastructure (i.e. his hotels) to make revenue via emoluments.

WaxiestSteam69 ,
WaxiestSteam69 ,

I’m pretty sure most of his properties are extremely leveraged.

Didn’t W divest a bunch of stuff and setup a blind trust for the same reason. And if I’m remembering correctly didn’t the peanut farm had been Carter’s family for a while so he gave up something that meant something more than money.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

Most folks who say this don’t realize which side they fall on.

I was never active in terms of posting but I followed several news outlets, local government agencies, and a few friends. Shortly after Musk took over I saw nothing but right wing nutjobs and a lot of posts from Musk. I tried unfollowing but nothing worked so I quit logging in. I need to cancel my account but haven’t taken the time.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I think the focus on bots was primarily used in an attempt to back out of the deal. It was never an issue, especially if it inflated his ego by pumping up his account.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

It’s only fair.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

It’s a shame because Twitter is a perfect platform for the kind of one-way communications required by a news agency or local government agency. Maybe Mastodon or Bluesky will fill that void.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

So would I but good luck getting your average local sheriff or office of emergency preparedness to use RSS. Most of their “IT” staff is the deputy who is “good with computers” meaning they can open a PDF file.

Georgia Senate passes bill banning taxpayer, private funds for American Library Association (apnews.com)

Georgia’s Senate passed a bill Thursday that would ban libraries from spending public or private funds on services offered by the American Library Association, which a Republican member of the chamber called a “Marxist and socialist” group....

I recently had to buy a printer. I do civil engineering for a utility company and need the ability to print in color on 11"x17" paper. I looked into the Epson Eco-Tank printers but they are very expensive. Based on my printing volume it would take me years to make up the cost difference between the lower end printers that use cartridges vs the eco-tank. It might have made more sense if I didn’t need the 11"x17" capability. Unfortunately, I think this is where all printer companies will end up going. Hopefully I’ll be retired and no longer need to print by the time this mentality takes over the entire business.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

If I only needed black and white without 11x17 capability I would definitely have gotten a laser printer. A color laser printer with 11x17 capability start north of $700. The only Epson eco-tank model I could find in stock with 11x17 was over $1000. I bought the workforce model that did what I needed for $200. I know I’m going to be gouged on the ink but I just couldn’t swing the upfront cost. Plus with my low volume of printing an $80 set of cartridges will last about 6-9 months.

I’ve always tipped 20% for good service and 15% for average or below. I usually don’t tip less that 15% unless it’s just abysmal or I’m picking up a to go order in which case I usually do 8-10%. Several of the restaurants around me have changed from 15% / 20% on the suggested tip to 20% / 25% and a few have even added 30%. And I’ve also noticed the suggested tips are calculated on the after tax amount, and some restaurants that charge a credit card processing fee calculate the suggested tip on that amount. I tip on pretax and pre-fee totals and cap at 20%. If it get worse, my eating at restaurants will start becoming less and less.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I bought mine when it fiest came out and I’m not really having any major issues. I find the screen rotation will occasionally act flaky and I had to reboot a couple of times because the keyboard wouldn’t come up qhen I touched a dialog box, but that stopped with the last update. Sorry you’re having trouble.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I think it’s mostly aboit the massive carbon footprint of a private jet and Elon has a rep for really short frequent flights.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I live on a really busy parish road and I noticed the same thing. The first 3 months of the COVID timeline were great. My company sent everyone home and we all worked remotely and the traffic on the road at my house dropped to almost nothing. It was glorious. I’m still working from home because my company sold the office building they owned and hasn’t built a new one. I can’t say the same for other companies because traffic is horrible in front of my house. The noise and the air quality are back to pre COVID levels of suck.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I agree but I doubt if this were a well written article it would get anywhere near the exposure it’ll get on YouTube.

Once the courts are done with federal agencies Deals won’t have to worry about OSHA.

Lexus is probably highly reliable but Audi’s have the same problem as other German makes- tons of cheap plastic under the hood that disintegrates at around the 5 year mark. There are lots of YouTube videos about it.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I’ll be really surprised if he makes that date.

When families need housing, Georgia will pay for foster care rather than provide assistance (www.propublica.org)

In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be cheaper to help families get housing....

WaxiestSteam69 ,

It’s using the kids to punish the parents. Members of my wife’s family claim to be Christians but support these types of policies and don’t see the problem. I’ve had to check out when yhose discussions come up.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

Not on topic but I recently listened to the Rush Limbaugh episodes of “Behind the Bastards”. I didn’t think I could dislike Rush more than I already did but I found out he was worse than I thought.

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize?

like I went to taco bell and they didn’t even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don’t get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

Didn’t we already have this for a breid shining moment with XMPP before Google and others broke it?

WaxiestSteam69 ,

“Broke” isn’t really tye right word. The protocol exists and could be used but companies like Google added proprietary atuff that made it impossible to use it as an open universal “system”.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

This happened to my wife and I with season 4 or Ozark. Fortunately I found a well made video on YouTube that summarized Seasons 1-3. I was amazed at how much stuff we had forgotten.

Louisianian here. We’re seeing a lot of wildfires in marshy areas due to the extreme drought conditions. The marsh grass is really dry and several areas near me have experienced these fires in normally wet areas that would not burn.

He did so much with that role while not speaking. I always thought he was a great actor.

I don’t think you’d want any part of a hospital that Elon Musk was involved in establishing.

Being in the right place at the right time and a sociopath = Billionaire

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone?

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

WaxiestSteam69 ,

I tried it several times and couldn’t get the hang of it. I’d always overshoot the character I was going for. I had a colleague who was amazingly fast with swiping to type.
