US changes how it categorizes people by race and ethnicity. It's the first revision in 27 years (apnews.com)

For the first time in 27 years, the U.S. government is changing how it categorizes people by race and ethnicity, an effort that federal officials believe will more accurately count residents who identify as Hispanic and of Middle Eastern and North African heritage....

I know this isn’t that important in the grand scheme of things, but I will always be confused on what to put for myself. My family comes from Central America (I have dual citizenship), so I should pick Hispanic, right? But my family is also white Hispanic, my cousin’s have a range of blonde and red hair, light eyes. I also have some Asian Hispanics in my family.

Hispanic really isn’t a race and it feels like I’m not supposed to pick it on the census because I don’t have the right skin color.

Whereas someone who does look Hispanic the way people think of, but maybe their family hasn’t lived there for generations, they get to be considered more Hispanic than me. It’s just confusing.

Yeah definitely that’s how I understood it, but now it sounds like they are categorizing Hispanic as a race not an ethnicity.

I agree and I also think companies will (or are) going to try more “organic” marketing by going into comments and pretending to be customers and recommend their products.

I thought about that when I went to a new hair salon and in their new customer form one of the questions was “how did you hear about us” and one of the options was Reddit.

I kind of would rather have ads if I had to because they are easier to identify. Now I can’t trust people in the Reddit comments.

What are some alternatives to bars that stay open late for folks that don't drink alcohol?

Bars are notable for staying open late, but I’m not really familiar with alternatives that might operate similarly. I think many cafés (at least around my area) tend to close a few hours earlier by comparison, which would be my go-to for an alternative otherwise, so what other options are there?

If it’s to hang out with friends then those private karaoke rooms are a lot of fun

For a moment I was confusing it for the cancelled Apple show Metropolis…I was really looking forward to that. But now I know this movie exists and am excited for it. I love original epic sci-fi!

They Didn’t Ask to Go Viral. Posting on Social Media Without Consent Is Immoral (www.wired.com)

They Didn’t Ask to Go Viral. Posting on Social Media Without Consent Is Immoral::It’s typical to ask friends for permission to share pictures of them. Yet people don’t extend this courtesy to strangers, either because they think nothing of it or they need to go viral at all costs.

This makes me think of the time I went to a haunted maze type place. The friend I was with was pretty terrified (normal reaction) and when one of the costume monsters chased her into a corner with her hiding her face and screaming, a bunch of random people started filming her and putting their phones basically in her face. I yelled at them to leave and they just started filming me.

I just imagine how many YouTube and TikTok videos we are in without us knowing.

Another interesting tidbit is her father was Lord Byron, the famous poet. He actually abandoned her and her mom after birth. This made Ada become more math oriented since her mom wanted her to be independent and a logical thinker.
