Dating platforms both reflect and reinforce racial stereotypes and biases common in American culture.

When seeking a romantic partner, people gravitate toward others who are similar and familiar to them – not people whom they have been taught to see as fundamentally different from their family, friends and neighbors.

And part of that is the lasting legacy of laws designed to keep races segregated.

@TheConversationUS @blackmastodon Every dating platform I have ever been involved with only took more money. The only time I have actually met anyone through the fediverse is from the early days when chat rooms were more prevalent than Facebook type platforms (including Twitter). Easier for personalities to emerge in direct chats.

Canadian-American journalist Sam Forster spent two weeks pretending to be Black to attempt a racial experiment no one asked for. But he is not the first white journalist to try this, and to end up reinforcing stereotypes and failing to address systemic .
“To believe that the richness of Black identity can be understood through a temporary costume trivializes the lifelong trauma of racism. It turns the complexity of Black life into a stunt.”

Georgia is in play in 2024.

“I believe that Trump can be placed among a long line of demagogues who possess the skills needed to tap into the fears and anxieties of a group of people that perceives itself as marginalized, at risk and not in control.”

It worked for Democrat Lester Maddox in 1967, and it’s working for Trump this year

@TheConversationUS @blackmastodon ..." a group of people that perceives itself as marginalized, at risk and not in control.” That group of people got him elected the first time, and included Blacks. This Trump is a politician now and will lose much of his prior support base. Only Republicans now. There is also no real choice of opposition. Biden never should have been elected. The US is overwhelmed with political savvy. Nobody really cares.

@BigAngBlack @blackmastodon @BlackMastodon The American Black community decides these things for ourselves, no outside opinion necessary. Trump, clearly is not uncomfortable around Black people. Meaning, he silently supports equality. There is no faking, we can tell instantly.

@Okanogen @BigAngBlack @blackmastodon @BlackMastodon True. But racism is existential. We have been gauging theses perceptions for life, since we were first born. We will not decide based on an image. Yes, I am taking liberties, but I earned the right. And I respect all opinions.

@Okanogen @BigAngBlack @blackmastodon @BlackMastodon The politicians and mass media assume Black people lack social intelligence, not true.

@BigAngBlack @Okanogen @blackmastodon @BlackMastodon I embrace these fractures. We do not all need to think alike.

@Teop_Versant@mastodon.social avatar

@BigAngBlack @Okanogen @blackmastodon @BlackMastodon I could never complain about the fractures because I am an individualist. My savior Jesus Christ even said he did not come to bring peace, but cause division. Everybody should choose for themself. But not allow their choice to be that of someone else. Unfortunately, hatred also divides. But with proper division (propaganda) people are swayed without realizing they have relinquished control. They spew the hatred of others. Dangerous.

@BigAngBlack @Okanogen @blackmastodon @BlackMastodon These people are then placed neatly into a square box, one labeled democrat - the other republican. The boxes are easily controlled.

'Killers of the Flower Moon' delves into racial and family dynamics that rocked Oklahoma to the core when oil was discovered on Osage lands. White settlers targeted members of the Osage Nation to steal their land and the riches beneath it. But from a historical perspective, this crime is just the tip of the iceberg.
