My 1st week of and surprisingly I've been able to stay away from work things. Here's what I did to make the transition easier
Part 1:
1: I added my planned last day to my email signature 3 months before starting mat leave; including when I needed to know things by to action them
2: I started a handover folder and added to it over the last 3 months; so colleagues could ask questions
3: Scheduled research project emails to go out so I can keep collecting data

@academicchatter Part 2 of prep

4: I set up a mat leave folder in outlook and made a rule to move all emails in there and mark them read (so it looks like nothing was sent to me)
5: Removed outlook from my phone
6: Out of my control but starting over a bank holiday weekend definitely helped too
7: Planned some activities to do before the baby arrives

Question: would it be fine to email a research project leader, express my interest in applying for a postdoc they offer, and ask if they have advice regarding application materials, like the cover letter? 😅

@ninokadic @academicchatter Absolutely - ask for an informal chat. That’s a good way to find out their plans, what they’re looking for and what they’re like…all of that helps with CV and cover letter

Has anyone come across journals asking for similarity checks for your manuscripts as you submit them? e.g. a report from Turnitin? I haven't come across this before but would be interested to know if you have... @academicchatter

@onisillos @academicchatter I also found it odd but some staff have mentioned this experience…unless they want to do a pre-check due to such a system being used?

Finally managed to do a little write-up about our writing retreat on a train: Write-Away! On the move. So excited to do this again in November as part of our fully packed schedule of events. https://stephaniezihms.blog/2023/10/20/write-away-on-the-move-writing-retreat-on-a-train/ @academicchatter

Fellow : can anyone vouch for the journal "Environment and Social Psychology?" Is it legit/not predatory? I have never heard of it (slightly out of field). I checked beal's List (https://beallslist.net/ of course not updated since 2017) and did not find it there.
