I feel like I’ve been here before.

When I was young there was an exciting, blockbuster weight loss drug and all the benefits of it were all over the news.

Then, eventually, all the downsides were revealed and it was eventually banned from the market. (fen phen)

There is not enough research and attention being paid attention to the mental health side effects of these drugs, as well as other knock-on effects.

As well as the fact that many people cannot and will not be able to afford these drugs, meaning they will largely go to the well-to-do, further entrenching mental health issues with the poor having further body image issues as the well-to-do start thinning out. There’s also the issue that since these were originally diabetes drug that their popularity as weight loss drugs will make them difficult to access for diabetes patients.

Soon, like so many things, being a healthy weight will literally only be affordable to a certain class of people, and that does have knock-on societal mental health effects. (At least in the US.)

But yeah, let’s keep cheering on new drugs that haven’t been on the market long enough for long-term testing and that originally was developed for people with diabetes.

I don’t understand why it’s not considered harassment of an elected official when they are doing that.

Calling a few times, sure no big deal, but a thousand times for each person? That’s fully in the territory of harassment and abuse.

You shouldn’t be rewarded for that behavior by fucking giving in to it.

Especially when rewarding them is saying “Okay, because you harassed us so much we’ve decided your opinion matters and we’ll actually do something about this issue.”

Just send out a form letter response, geeze! How hard is it really to ignore your constituents effectively? I’ve been receiving form letter responses for decades now, it’s not hard guys! You don’t even have to functionally address any points made by your constituents, just shit out a form letter with a loose connection to the ideas presented and you’re good.

The number of times an elected official has made it clear that my opinions mean fuck-all to them is extremely high.

Unless you physically own your hardware and connection, all of this is moot anyway.

Any time you’re spinning up an instance on cloud-hosted solutions, you’re by it’s very nature putting everything on someone else’s physical property.

This is an issue I wish was discussed more, because Federation helps ameliorate certain problems with the modern internet, but it doesn’t address how much of the physical hardware and networking infrastructure is privately owned and operated.

It’s astounding to me. It’s like people don’t realize the stranglehold the police have on democratic cities and states. They are almost always conservative and are antagonistic to the elected officials with an attitude of “If you don’t let us do what we want, we won’t protect you when you need it,” and it seems like, for the most part, that’s enough to scare democrat elected officials into stepping in line with whatever the police force wants.

I mean, on January 6th, cops pretty much just let a bunch of violent thugs with guns walk up on Washington State Governor Jay Inslee. And yet that dumb piece of shit hasn’t fucking gone balls-to-the-wall on reigning in the cops in his fucking state. The cops here would let right wing thugs kill him, and he still supports them. Democrats are god damned pussies.
