Question for the horror fanatics: is summer always such a big time for horror movies?

Going back to June, we've had The Watchers, A Quiet Place: Day One, MaXXXine, and Longlegs. And coming soon is Trap, Cuckoo, and the new Alien movie. Many of those were good, and all are high profile. To say nothing of the May releases, or smaller, limited/streaming releases.

Is this normal?

@auzzy @horror Tbh I never noticed this, but since I'm not able to go to the cinema it sometimes needs years until I can catch some films I want to see lol

@stina_marie @horror Don't you have a holiday in the US today? We have one here, so it's technically still Sunday :ablobcatrave: :ablobcathyper:

We watched THE INNOCENTS (2021) last night and while I thought it was a solid horror film, I am somewhat bewildered at the 97% on RT. I'd give it a 90% - it was a unique premise, certainly full of horror, and the kids were great in it. But it wasn't a near masterpiece.

(Note that the horror contains some truly appalling animal death, so don't watch it if that's going to traumatize you.)

I almost didn't start watching this because I thought it would be dumb, but I freaking love this show. I binge watched five episodes so far. Have you seen it?

Yep ⬇️ 🤘🏼

"...And as for the “all time classic dialogue” that was “butchered” and “misappropriated” by López, Pizzolatto’s admirers seem to have forgotten that much of Rust Cohle’s dialogue in season 1 was borrowed from author "

(borrowed is a nice way to put it)

And if you're curious about the writing, here's an article that breaks it down:

@stina_marie @horror I wondered about season 4 getting mixed reviews, since 90% of my bubble LOVED that season.

So I guess maybe non horror peeps where not enjoying it that much?!

MevsMatze ,
@MevsMatze@horrorhub.club avatar

@stina_marie @horror I read that a lot of people watched it, but I think not all were that enthusiastic about it as my bubble.

But I get it. If you are expecting a "normal" crime show you are getting a lot of supernatural horror and I guess not everyone is into that.

Reminded a lot of The Outsider, which was also between crime and supernatural horror. Having no idea it was supernatural I got my parents to watch it :ablobcatrave: :ablobcathyper:

Stole this image from someone who stole this image, and I'm stealing the question, too:

WHAT FILM MADE YOU GO 'WTF DID I JUST WATCH'?

Off the top of my head:

Mother! definitely. Also Society, The Outwaters, Final Prayer (aka The Borderlands), Dead Alive (aka Brain Dead), Skinamarink, The Human Centipede, Infinity Pool, Antichrist, Hausu, Secretary. And I love them all.

What about you?

@Well_Worth_A_Read Normally would've been all in for some voodoo stuff, 'cause you see it rarely in horror movies, but that didn't click with me @horror

@stina_marie@horrorhub.club avatar

Well, we watched it. It was... a movie.

I'm not sure how you take well-written, previously existing material for a compelling prequel, cast a bunch of really talented people, and still wind up with a milquetoast, totally forgettable movie- but somebody did, so I guess... Good job. It wasn't even BAD- just utterly unremarkable.

Also, the lack of Maine accents (in general, but for JUDD CRANDALL, of all people) was irritating.

MevsMatze ,
@MevsMatze@horrorhub.club avatar

@stina_marie @horror Yeah, it's bad. I even found stuff I liked on the reboot, but on this one?

David Duchovny and Henry Thomas seem to be bored filming this.

The phrase "Sometimes dead is better" was never more accurate than on this movie.

@stina_marie @horror Under the Shadow is one of my all time faves.

I also liked The Sentinel, Oculus (Mike Flanagan!), Marrowbone, Haunt and Things Heard & Seen (one of the most beautiful Horror films I have seen).

Ouija: Origin of Evil is another one by Flanagan.

Malevolent isn't very good, but Florence Pugh makes it watchable (for me)
