They also have said anyone remaining in Gaza is Hamas so…

Jakeroxs ,

I understand as a fellow atheist, but I would just say try to have some compassion for people as a whole, even if they believe in stupid sky daddys.

Jakeroxs ,

I feel for your experiences but again want to stress that not all of them are unsaveable, many were just born into it and brainwashed throughout their lifetime and never actually given any alternative.

I used to be a very angry atheist as well, and I will definitely still debate theists and point out the idiocy in religion, but I also don’t particularly blame them for being that way.

Obviously there are many examples of shit people who wield it to hurt others, as you’ve clearly experienced, but they’re not all like that, and were not going to win any/many over by saying we want them all to die, even if I agree that the world would be better off if religion didn’t exist.

A common one I see is the “how can you have morals without religion” which… Ugh but people literally often aren’t ever given an opposing viewpoint in a reasonable and rational manner.

Anyway, hope you’re better in life after getting away from that garbage.

Jakeroxs , (edited )

You can definitely exit religion even growing up in a heavily religious environment, it seems you did in your own experience right?

I grew up in Texas surrounded by Christians, while I was lucky enough that both my parents are… Not religious per-say (but maybe deist?) I wasn’t forced into religion either, I went to church many times with family and friends but never really “bought it” and eventually ended up as an atheist. My wife was Christian when we met and eventually also came over to atheism eventually after many many discussions and videos and evidence etc… people can be deconverted, it just takes a lot.

I think the Internet helped me to not fall into the trap personally, and definitely helped with getting my wife out of it.

What about euro med human rights monitor reporting x.com/EuroMedHR/status/1724896319570059536?s=20

Jakeroxs ,

Let me put this in perspective for you, if there was a school with an armed gunman holding a bunch of children captive, do you think the best course of action is to bomb the entire school?

Jakeroxs ,

RCS is not a Google product, see en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSMA

Apple has been pushing iMessage for quite some time, but they want to keep it just to their platform and have made no attempt to make it open to other users. That’s Apples way and it’s not as a “protest” to Google lol

That’s like saying they made the lightning port as a protest to USB standards, nah they just want their proprietary shit.

Jakeroxs ,

I don’t buy this argument at all, they could have contributed towards a combined connector with the usb-if, but instead they made their own proprietary connector.

Jakeroxs , (edited )

Not according to the leaked emails… x.com/TechEmails/status/1589450766506692609?s=20

Also, the secure enclave wasn’t added until the iPhone 5s in 2013, whereas iMessage had already existed as of 2011.

Jakeroxs ,

The limitation was added after the fact anyway, like I mentioned in my edit, secure enclave wasn’t added until the A7 chip, which was first used in the iPhone 5S in 2013, two years after iMessage became available.

Jakeroxs ,

Can you please point to me where it states Googles “version” of RCS can’t also interface with telecom based RCS?

Because it seems from my reading the Google just has some enhanced features on top of RCS (like e2e encryption) when both sides are through Google, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work with telecoms as well, unlike Apples walled garden of iMessage which doesn’t work with anything else lol.

Jakeroxs ,

Lightning came out in 2012, USB-C came out in 2014, not exactly “forever”

This is just cope man come on

Jakeroxs ,

Which is literally exactly what Apple did when they moved from the older connector to lightning in the first place lol.

Jakeroxs ,

And…? I don’t get your point, that’s what I’m arguing, Apple specifically made iMessage unable to interact with anything else intentionally, they very well could have figured out a way to bring it to other platforms but specifically chose not to.

Jakeroxs ,

Source for them contributing towards USBC prior to implementing lightning port?

Jakeroxs ,

Man you’re just proving you have no idea what you’re talking about with every response.

With lightning, Apple essentially added DRM to the connector, requiring cable manufacturers to pay Apple for each sold cable.

“Lightning also introduced additional protocols that could only be officially supported through the MFi program.”

“The Apple MFi Program has no fee to join, but there are two costs associated with membership; a company wanting to join has to pay for a third-party identity verification and pay royalties to Apple once approved, and neither cost is mentioned in Apple’s MFi FAQ documentation. Royalty fees in particular are covered by an NDA, making finding actual pricing difficult.

According to an Apple Insider article from 2014 (which is the newest pricing source available), MFi royalties run $4 USD per connector (e.g., a lightning port) on a device. It is unknown if this information is still correct. I contacted Apple and received this response:

All publicly-available information about the MFi Program is available on our FAQ page: mfi.apple.com/faqs. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide further details about the MFi Program beyond those provided in the FAQ.”

Additionally, the point of standards in general is to reduce waste and make interoperable devices much easier across manufacturers, something Apple consistently has proven they have to be forced to do. For example… iMessage and the lightning connector. They can provide excuses all they want but the truth is plain to see, they frequently hoard technology for themselves and intentionally make products that don’t function with existing products in the name of profit.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s smart of them to do from a monetary standpoint, but that doesn’t make it right and consumers should be smarter.

Jakeroxs ,

That’s not a weird request at all, they could have contributed to the USBC protocol before it released, that’s… How it works you know.

Jakeroxs ,

It’s really not necessary though, it’s just a justification after the fact. There are several secure e2e apps available without utilizing a special chip to house that data, even Google has e2e with their RCS implementation

Jakeroxs ,

We can look at the press release announcing USBC from 2013 where Apple isn’t mentioned at all… studylib.net/…/usb-type-c-press-release-from-2013

It looks like they were mentioned in a 2014 list however www.docdroid.net/uf3z/typec-pdf

Jakeroxs ,

That’s true, but if Apple was heavily invested at the time, you’d think they’d show up in the “opening credits” :p

Jakeroxs ,

Wow this whole thread is Hamas supporters! /s

It’s hilariously bad, but you know brown people bad, Israel good apparently.

Jakeroxs ,

The IDF has targeted over 21 hospitals at this point, funny that people got caught up on the one hospital situation and don’t care about the other 20 anymore.

x.com/EuroMedHR/status/1724100972606001430?s=20

Jakeroxs ,

200 people abducted/held hostage, refuses any attempts to trade the hostages and instead kill 13k civilians, including 6220 children.

Yeah seems like a proportional response

Jakeroxs ,

Use special forces to take out Hamas members specifically instead of indiscriminately bombing civilians, cutting off all food/water/power, literally saying any civilian left is Hamas, etc… just as a start maybe.

Jakeroxs ,

“Safely ignore” is probably not correct

Jakeroxs ,

I still can’t understand why they killed hangouts

Jakeroxs ,

It just doesn’t make sense, it worked almost identically to apples iMessage when the person was also on Android, integrated nicely with Google Voice, had a web interface and they could have just implemented RCS, instead they made allo/duo, killed those off and now we have messages, which is fine but is just sms and RCS… Just seemed like such a waste of effort to do all of that when you already had a working product with integrations already built out.

Jakeroxs , (edited )

My cats definitely need cuddles every day, they want to drink from the sink at least once a day, when I’m working at my desk they’ll sleep on my lap or stand in front of my monitors staring at me for attention, they’ll cry at the bedroom door.

Maybe they’re just needy because we’re very affectionate with them, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/f3480e82-e4ec-4da1-ba92-4db4a4e762e5.jpegAs I was writing this comment…

That’s literally how Intel integrated GPUs work too

The RAM being shared with the GPU, that is.

Jakeroxs ,

“What Apple calls “unified memory” is RAM (random-access memory) used as “main memory” (not a CPU or GPU cache and not mass storage either).

The term “unified” refers to the fact that the memory is shared by the CPU cores and the GPU cores. That’s not novel: “integrated graphics” options in Intel x86 chips (like Iris Xe) do the same, as do just about all modern smartphones.”

Jakeroxs ,

Just wish they released any SP content

Literally a black mirror episode

Counterpoint, I clicked on many random links, and saw many things I probably “shouldn’t have” as a kid/teen, still turned out alright I think.

Even on Omegle in particular, after like one day, you gotta expect the dicks and move on lol

I frequented 4chan at age 13-16 so saw pretty much everything one could see on the Internet.

I’m not going to argue it was good or bad, but it’s not like it permanently fucked me up to the point of not being able to function as an adult later in life.

There’s also the privacy vs protection argument here, if sites require verification that you’re over 18 or w/e that then means you have to provide some sort of identification, what happens if that site is hacked? Or bad actors use that information to blackmail you in some fashion.

It’s a hard situation and I don’t know what the right answer truly is.

Jakeroxs ,

Oh Lord what happened here

Jakeroxs ,

Valve in particular is less prone to this kind of thing with their hardware, for example the Steam link, steam controller and Valve Index

Jakeroxs ,

I’m pretty sure the secret project was this remake

Jakeroxs ,

Right, it’s sad how nfts are just a joke now because of the worst possible execution of what an nft could do/be became a massive scam

Jakeroxs ,

They did rename it to iPad OS, so yes

Jakeroxs ,

Do you actually not understand how a web browser, a file manager and a email application are considerably different compared to Safari on iOS, macOS and iPad OS

Amazon's drone delivery program is the joke it always sounded like. (news.yahoo.com)

Only one item can be delivered at a time. It can’t weigh more than 5 pounds. It can’t be too big. It can’t be something breakable, since the drone drops it from 12 feet. The drones can’t fly when it is too hot or too windy or too rainy....

Jakeroxs ,

Do you seriously think we shouldn’t try to automate things as much as possible? Why keep jobs that no one really wants to do?

Jakeroxs ,

I would bet people don’t want to do those jobs because they’re not really fulfilling or enjoyable to most.

Jakeroxs ,

You seemingly don’t understand how an acquisition works

Jakeroxs ,

That’s not how it works when major companies buy one another, it generally takes years for integration efforts wherein prior leadership and plans remain mostly unchanged for more then half that time.

Jakeroxs ,

Yup, it works as a shield for any criticism for them.

Jakeroxs ,

Some of us don’t really have the choice to not have a car, there’s virtually no public transportation where I live.
