The op probably meant removing one key and adding another

Gooey0210 OP ,

As i said i already have experience of hosting email, many different ways, etc

Will you use your selfhosted mail for important things? (Banking, official correspondence and so on)

I’m barely using email because have really few services that require an email (foss and selfhosting evangelism)

Can you promise a near 100% uptime? Otherwise, some email might not reach you.

I can promise you anything under these stars. And some of it would be true because my specialization is 0 downtime systems

How important is the Mail you send? Some (stupid) Blocklists generally block all IP ranges that are sold out by vps companies and other kinds of IAAS.

Never had any problems with the big hosters like do, linode, vultr, hetzner

If you register any accounts with your selfhosted mail, can you guarantee yourself that your email account is secure? Don’t underestimate what an attacker can do with a compromised Mail account.

Selfhosting for many years, never got hacked because I take security seriously

Nowadays I pay a company to do the mail hosting

I’m trying not to pay companies when not necessary, and especially not for a “setup service”

Gooey0210 OP ,

I do it not really for myself, slow and steady i’m converting everyone I know to using my services

Sounds impossible, but some people already are using almost the whole suite and are happy. More and more people are asking if they can join.

The global sentiment is moving towards “tired of google”, “tired of paying for bad services”

Gooey0210 OP ,

No problem, the world of pain is my hometown

Gooey0210 ,

The answer is proxmox, not portainer

Gooey0210 ,

Not many UIs can do containers and VMs

[Sorry for my not really well written reply, you really need to try different options, and in my opinion proxmox is like the only choice because of how many cool things you can do there]

Proxmox I just really good, and if you want to spin up VMs easily you will need to reshape your setup anyway

With proxmox you can do like everything with VMs, containers, etc. Not just managing only containers, or just showing status of the VMs

Also, proxmox is not really an operating system, it’s a service on top of Debian (in many cases you start installing proxmox by installing Debian)

Gooey0210 ,

For the system itself I would recommend nixos

Some people like it, some people are against progress and they think work should be manual 🤣

I’m using nixos and all my machines, even integrating my phone in it

You can automate and replicate unbelievable stuff with it. You solve a bunch of problems by using nixos

But it’s a whole big rabbit whole, and it would take a lot of time to learn how to use it, then a lot of time to set everything up

But you could do zero downtime hardware maintenance without VMs or containers, just by using bare metal

Edit: or with VMs, containers, or k8s. Everything would be just cleaner and cooler

Gooey0210 ,

Yes it can, but not out of the box, and yeah, if you want the ui it will be that portainer again 😂

Gooey0210 ,

Portainer doesn’t manage VMs either

But at least you can do docker inside proxmox, and kinda manage it, or put something else on top of it

Gooey0210 ,

I quit buying bread because learned how to just make it, not a rocket science. Bread and other food makers, keep it up 👏

Gooey0210 ,

I’m buying my baking stuff from a b2b shop, and pretty much in bulk

I never count time because it doesn’t make any sense, I have a lot of time, 24h in total a day

In my case home made bread is around the same price with the cheapest bread in my area. And around 3 times cheaper than the bread from the bakeries

I’m also making cheese, so I never need milk and have a ton of whey (no matter how much bread I make, i’m still mostly using the whey for watering the plants)

I don’t know what country you live in, but thousandS of $ is probably a little bit too much

Our oven costs $100, it’s small and electric, but it does it’s things flawlessly

If I would have any land I would even just build one from bricks

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? (lemmy.world)

Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...

Somebody should create a piracy bible, and make this message part of it

Any othet alternative to telegram that is more open sourced , privacy ,security focused is available in fdroid etc.

Wanted to know if there are any other android apps with features like telegram such as sending ,recieving big files creating channels etc. Using a bot or channel in telegram to pirate movies and series are infinitely easier than torrenting . But as telegram is not fully open source and requires a phone number to create an...

If you’re on simplex you will understand this joke:

Simplex sucks because we need stickers

P.s. really love simplex, would like to see more stability and maybe speed, but everything else works just great

I hope someday we'll find a way to pirated a car (lemmy.world)

In the end, the KIA car company made its cars into subscription models, I really hate this because in the end the car we buy with our own money doesn’t feel like it belongs to us. Should we finally buy an old school car ? so as not to be affected by this subscription models or is there a way to crack the software installed in...

This is where capitalism is failing because people are dumb 🤷

Gooey0210 ,

Option 1: Go to rutracker, and join the “guardians”

Option 2: get a raspberry pi or something, and maybe get a new hdd, and just seed

Option 3: get a backblaze bucket

These are just from the top of my head

Gooey0210 OP ,

I drink a lot of cacao 😅😅😅 i make it almost every day, i like sweet stuff (pretty often i eat 500-1000g of sugar a day, i’m a terrible person. And sometimes it’s like the only thing i eat, in form of condensed milk🫠(i’m skinny as a twig, i move a lot during the day and eat like tons of food every day))

Gooey0210 OP ,

As more you make it as good it becomes

These were really almost undistinguishable from the once we used to buy outside

Every time we make them better and better, soon will be even better 😅

Gooey0210 OP ,

Learn how to make these yourself, very easy, very quick, very cheap 🫡

Gooey0210 OP ,

Sometimes i get pretty angry at those invisible entities that eat my food without me seeing it, i just cooked it and just tried to eat, and somebody stole it from me 🤭

Gooey0210 OP ,

I posted a kinda recipe how i usually make these:

Gooey0210 ,

Did you make the goat cheese? 🤔🤔🤔

Gooey0210 ,

Just interested, sorry if it sounded not right

I just make cheese myself, like two times a week, 6 liters of milk. So i’m asking everyone if they make cheese to find my comrades cheesemakers 🫡

Gooey0210 ,

Struggling 😂 recently opened one of the cheddars, it tastes like a little off gouda 🤣

I even got out of rennet, i finished two bottles, the once for like 200-300-500 liters, i don’t even remember how many 😂

(Also, i broke my second press)

Gooey0210 ,

I’m mostly melting it right now, pizza, bread, etc

When i will be making some better cheese and more, i will try my best to check how can i share stuff i make with all the people i meet. For now, i’m doing it in Vietnam, so it would be a long trip for a piece of cheese to get to you 🤭

Gooey0210 ,

[And now they are starting to have sex]

Gooey0210 ,

does not give the recipient license to engage in piracy or any pirate activities.

I repacked it, enjoy guys, arr

Gooey0210 ,

Because you need a privateering license, i’ve heard Russia gives away some

Gooey0210 ,

Who cares about mods tbh

If i couldn’t use infinity, i couldn’t use reddit

Gooey0210 ,

Tor i pretty well organized lately, it’s really not hard to find anything

Gooey0210 ,

Or use encrypted dns 😕 it’s 2024, time to use encryption

Gooey0210 ,

Use encryption, using vpns for such a trivial task is a “really bad idea”

There are many cases when somebody wants to have their dns public, maybe they want to share with their friends, family, community, audience (not everyone is a solo server user)

Also, it’s good to use your dns even before connecting to the vpn. Just use encryption, it’s safe and nice

Keeping 53 opened is not that bad, the only thing you will notice is an increased load on your server if somebody tried to ddos somebody’s server using your dns

P.S. Or as somebody mentioned below, use rate limiting. It’s described pretty well in some other comments. Not just “spooky internet port”

Gooey0210 ,

Cloudflare is not private… not sure if dyndns has even worse reputation than cloudflare

Some services are better left to experts until you really know what you’re doing.

DNS, for experts? 😂

You host your own dns, and don’t work with glowing services, this is the private way

Gooey0210 ,

You don’t knock yourself out, it doesn’t look like you ever even tried it

See you when you start selfhosting stuff, or at least get interested

Also, knocking yourself out is not privacy, but anonymity 🤭

Gooey0210 , (edited )

You can’t steal something if you can’t own it Arrrr…

And really most of these AAa companies don’t make any great games anymore, just cheap cash grabs, why would even care about them

ACDAB - All Corporate Dogs Are Bastards

Pi-Hole or something else for network ad blocking?

I’ve been aware of pi-hole for a while now, but never bothered with it because I do most web browsing on a laptop where browser extensions like uBlock origin are good enough. However, with multiple streaming services starting to insert adds into my paid subscriptions, I’m looking to upgrade to a network blocker that will...

Gooey0210 ,

Adguard-home is way better than pi-hole imo

Gooey0210 ,

Encryption, UI, probably a little bit more serious development

But encryption is a big thing, DoT, DoH, Quic. And soon they will have ECH

Gooey0210 ,
Gooey0210 ,

Probably not, but anyway it’s pretty cool to have an option to do this kind of stuff

You can set up this dns on your phone, laptop, without a need of vpn (although vpns are cool, especially tailscale)

But, are you always connected to the vpn? Or even to connect to the vpn itself you probably need dns, why would not use your own

Gooey0210 ,

Hold on, this is not the same encryption

The encryption i was talking about is the encryption of your dns server

The article you sent is talking about upstream dns server encryption

Gooey0210 ,

You can do it on your local network, but this won’t make much sense

I mean encryption between your phone or laptop outside of your house, and your dns server at your house

Gooey0210 ,

Oh, oh, oh, gimme that!!

First time i hear about something like that, i’m going to install it asap
