I wonder what utility such algae may bring. It’s certainly very interesting!

I wonder if this halts the food aid going into Gaza as this gets investigated?

Gigasser , to games in Quest 1 becomes near-E-waste Apr 30

I don’t get why you’re being downvoted, sounds like a localization/price/law thing, like Brazil and the price of consoles and games over there.

Gigasser , to games in Quest 1 becomes near-E-waste Apr 30

Better to have invested in a Valve Index I feel than get an Oculus. Might be more expensive, but I trust Valve to not completely fuck over their consumers.

Gigasser , to worldnews in US lawmakers want a TikTok sale or ban, but China’s ByteDance won’t give up without a fight

Even if that were the case, couldn’t the Chinese government just covertly get one of their companies to buy any such data from companies like Meta and Google anyways, and then request it from one of their own firms if they wanted to? Tiktok just makes it so that the Chinese government can (if they were harvesting American data) acquire it for free.

Gigasser , to pcgaming in In 2018 a group of Valve staff tried to figure out just how efficient they were being—and found they were making more money per head than Apple, Facebook, and nearly every tech giant out there

That and the steam community and forums are pretty cool too. Alot of tech support for game problems, community mods, discussions, etc.

Gigasser , to technology in Google is making a map of methane leaks for the whole world to see

The article says something about this tech being used to find any leaks that happen so that they can be patched and or used for methane collection. The collected methane can then be sold. Google would probably make money from selling this service to these fossil fuels companies.

Gigasser , to technology in Teen deepfake victim pushes for federal law targeting AI-generated explicit content

Tbh, I’ve always thought about it like this, making deepfake tech illegal would be like making photoshopping faces on porn images illegal. At the end of the day the technology itself shouldn’t be regulated, the end products themselves should be though. If you Photoshop some kids face onto some nude body, you should be arrested for possession regardless if it was “real” or not. The same should go for deepfake porn exploiting children.

However I see very little wrong with some guy photoshopping adult celeb or “friends” faces onto nude model bodies, same for those who do it with deepfake tech, just don’t distribute it.

Gigasser , to technology in Most Sophisticated iPhone Hack Ever Exploited Apple's Hidden Hardware Feature

It can often be more important to inform apple users of attacks and exploits because android users aren’t often under the illusion that they’re immune from such happenings.

Gigasser , to world in New Covid wave has begun and masks should be worn again, scientists warn

Sure, but still, if you’re visibly sick you should wear a mask. It’s respectful. I mean shit the Japanese have been doing that shit since forever and you don’t see their asses complaining.

Gigasser , to asklemmy in why are companies trying so hard to have employees back in the office?

I think what they don’t realize is that it’s basically Pandora’s box at this point, and what’s been let out is a ticking time bomb. Unless something changes, remote work will always be on the cards now and will probably always be preferable.

I thought it was a joke about future millennial/zoomer grandparents.

Gigasser , to news in 'Suits' Was Streamed For 3 Billion Minutes on Netflix and the Writers Were Collectively Paid $3,000

You are treating a written product the same as a commodity. The success of a creative work isn’t assured and fixed like a commodity is, basically working like fiat. So a piece of writing can either make very little money or a bunch. The initial cost of creating a show would be so much higher if writers were paid based on what the script is “worth”, since there is no real metric for show success and writers would probably just charge up the wazoo to be able to survive long enough till their next gig. This would probably also decrease creative quality, and you’d probably have shittier shows because of this.
