As far as I know that’s pretty much on point on how transporters work. There is an episode of TNG where someone was stuck in the energy state and conscious and saw energy beings living there. Of course then there is also the case of the two Rikers which seems to show that copying a person is indeed possible under very specific circumstances (I think there was some interference with exotic energy or something).

CitizenKong ,

And he was so much better there than in Harry Potter too. Either he didn’t like that role or he got bad direction.

CitizenKong ,

I for one, hope Jude Law will stay with us for a long time still.

CitizenKong ,

He looks like he’s in great shape though. It’s crazy that Martin Short is the younger of the two (by five years).

CitizenKong ,

I absolutely agree. Every single voice actor from the main party of BG3 was stellar (including the narrator), while J.K. Simmons seemed to be bored while recording his lines and Jason Isaacs was good but nothing extraordinary.

CitizenKong ,

The software enshittification cycle continues.

CitizenKong ,

This happens when you have to grow endlessly and hit a ceiling (in this case, number of users). Then you have to squeeze those users further so the numbers go up again. Of course you are killing the product in the long run because more and more users cancel but that’s not a big deal to the people making the decisions. (Well, the people doing actual work might object but nobody cares about them.) The shareholders that got obscenely rich will just leech onto the next big thing and the CEOs sail to their next product to ruin with a huge golden parachute. Rinse and repeat. Meanwhile, civilisation crumbles and decays, before it burns in the sadly inevitable climate catastrophe.

I read somewhere that streaming content has to be filed with a weight and dimensions because their database only understands packages.

CitizenKong ,

Also, wouldn’t water erosion make them less deep not more, due to generally smoothing the stone?

CitizenKong ,

I’m determined to remains faithful to my soulmate Karlach, but it’s sooo hard, everybody is practically throwing themselves at me.

Also complete (tech- and content-wise).

Microsoft documents leak new Bethesda games, including an Oblivion remaster (www.theverge.com)

Remember that these were estimates from more than three years ago and before Microsoft completed its acquisition of ZeniMax in March 2021, so there’s always the chance that some of these plans have changed dramatically or been scrapped entirely. But they may provide an early look at some of the games we can look forward to...

CitizenKong , (edited )

Since the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters will be on the Creation Engine, they will probably just be the old games with HD textures more or less. So basically what is already possible with mods.

EDIT: Also, I wonder if the Skyblivion project will finally be finished just to get a cease and desist letter by MS because they do their own remaster of the game.

CitizenKong ,

A better UI? By Bethesda? I wouldn’t bet on it.

CitizenKong ,

Well, but didn’t you know that the human body has a finite amount of energy like a battery and you use it up doing sports? Donald Trump does.

CitizenKong ,

It’s funny that the quality criteria for a Bethesda game is “not as buggy and unfinished as previous games”. Which still means plenty of bugs, of course.

CitizenKong ,

The current Unity-CEO is the Ex-CEO of Electronic Arts, under him EA was named “Worst Company in America” two consecutive times in 2012 and 2013 by Consumerist Magazine and he’s on record saying that game devs that don’t focus on microtransactions are "the biggest fucking idiots".

CitizenKong ,

I still remember playing the first game thinking computer game graphics couldn’t possibly look more realistic.

The Batshit Crazy Story Of The Day Elon Musk Decided To Personally Rip Servers Out Of A Sacramento Data Center (www.techdirt.com)

Back on Christmas Eve of last year there were some reports that Elon Musk was in the process of shutting down Twitter’s Sacramento data center. In that article, a number of ex-Twitter employees wer…

This is the same guy who wants to put implants into people’s brains and send them to Mars. Let that sink in.

CitizenKong ,

As are any single persons with this much money and, in consequence, power. It’s the old problem with monarchy all over again. Sure, you could get a benevolent leader that favoured the arts, but it was more likely that is was a spoiled inbred who wanted to be famous by starting a few wars with neighbors.

CitizenKong ,

He’s pretty obviously a parody of Musk. Also Mark Rylance’s character in Don’t Look Up.

CitizenKong ,

I mean it was only ever Google with that motto and they ditched it pretty quickly.

CitizenKong ,

To someone from Europe like me, the US very much feels like a dystopian hellhole whenever I read stories like these. How can a government hate its people so much?

CitizenKong ,

Bad news to a lot of those organisms though, the Extinction Level Event doesn’t stop at humans. I’m not sure what’s resilient enough to survive. Cockroaches maybe? Rats?

CitizenKong ,

Also the Sabine War and The War of the Sicilian Vespers. Maybe the Harem Conspiracy too although that was mostly women fighting each other.

CitizenKong ,

I thought superheroes were real and all lived in New York. To be fair, it was my only contact with Western culture.

CitizenKong ,

Baldur’s Gate has some of the best gaming moments in my recebt memory, but those are more character and story moments. On the other Hand, FFXVI has the most epic boss fights I’ve ever played, basically Kaiju beating the shit out of each others.

CitizenKong ,

Well, in most Western democracies, the really stupid seem to amount to about 10 to 20 percent (rising sadly). Due to a (completely intended) lack of education and decades of propaganda by the right, that amount seems to be about 30 percent in the US. That’s still very much a minority! On the other hand, Hitler only needed about 35 percent of the popular vote to dismantle democracy in Germany (different political system though).

CitizenKong ,

Yeah, as soon as it became known that this is still on the Creation Engine, I knew there would be loading screens galore. Seamless exploration of planets and actual infinite space flight is just not something this engine is capable of. Hell, I’m impressed they managed to squeeze even the little space flight out of it that they did.

CitizenKong ,

Oh, our world will be fine, it’s not the Earth’s first mass extinction event. We - and a lot of flora and fauna we depend on - are really fucked though.

CitizenKong ,

This is literally how rich people will take this.

CitizenKong ,

I agree in general, but there is physically not enough CO2 on this planet to turn it into Venus. So the planet is safe in that regard. It’s going to get tough for a few hundreds of thousands of years (just a blink of an eye for the planet), then a new equilibrium will emerge.

CitizenKong ,

Hard to beat the dominance of archosaurs on Earth for about 180 mio years. Humans are a blink of an eye compared to that.

CitizenKong ,

Or an ongoing, exponentially worsening global climate catastrophe.

CitizenKong ,

It’s only a short-time gain though. With a shared account between 4 households, chances that one of them is actively using the service is much higher than with only 2 users. If a service is used less and less, chances are increasing it’s going to get canceled (especially now that prices are soaring while wages are not increasing accordingly).

CitizenKong ,

Problem is, there will be less and less elsewheres where people can still live within a hundred years or so.

CitizenKong ,

I agree completely and would like to add especially if it’s a Bethesda game. I can still remember waiting for half a year for Skyrim to be playable on PS3 after buying it on launch day.

CitizenKong ,

In the movies I would say when Worf went into Klingon puberty in Star Trek: Insurrection and got a giant pimple in his face that everybody was making fun of.

CitizenKong ,

Isn’t Bethesda still very much run by Howard though? He just has some MS oversight now.

CitizenKong ,

No way that’s a real screenshot, someone exaggerated the eyes quite a bit. NPCs in Starfield do look worse than other comparable games, but not that much worse.

EDIT: Yep, here’s the unaltered screenshot.

CitizenKong ,

I agree, and the fact the NPCs have conversations and stories that play around you which are not automatically turning into quests for you to do (sometimes even chiding you for eavesdropping) makes the world feel much more alive and less player-centric.
