Arcade Blogger is the original article.

It’s a real shame what could have been but at least the code has been saved. This brings back memories of how insanely fun arcades used to be!

Shenmue and Shenmue II are probably the games I’ve played the most over the years.

Then it’s on to the Telltale series of games and especially The Wolf Among Us.

In general I’m more of a “play lots but complete few” person.

@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

The Expanse: A Telltale Series

I see it has been received well but I’m avoiding all details and waiting for all episodes to be released.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Tysy is one of the better channels but 99% of restoration videos around are “watch me clean this thing that I intentionally made dirty beforehand”…

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks. Thats pretty funny and spot on.

I’d forgotten about TRF and haven’t watched since he did the Sony Walkman video years ago.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Looking forward to the football and then MotoGP later. Also owe the dog a decent walk as he has barely been out this week…

I recently rediscovered Rollcage Redux and Rollcage Extreme.

Updates to the originals so they play nice with modern hardware and also “free”.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Homeworld Deserts of Kharak is the free game from the Epic store this week and I found it very enjoyable.

I find it difficult to stick with most podcasts but I’ve been listening to these regularly for a while now

Telltale Games, I’ve been on a bit of a Telltale binge this week with The Walking Dead season 3, a little bit of Batman TTS and Minecraft Story Mode too.

I’m still looking forward to trying The Expanse game but I’m waiting for the price to drop a little.

Also in a effort to keep the kids busy and learn something new I taught them some card games. I don’t know many myself but Clock and Pontoon are easy enough for them to enjoy.

  • Forza Motorsport 7

I skipped from 4 to 7 and it was a real disappointment. I guess that can be said about a lot of series that move up a console generation though.

I even used the weird U-shaped wireless wheel controller thing and Forza Motorsport 4 was definitely the peak for me.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Twisted Metal, I wouldn’t call it great but it’s good enough to be enjoyable.

Across the Spider-verse, it’s very good but so hectic and fast paced I struggled to keep up a few times.

Looking for games with strong female leads for my daughter (even just to watch as I play). Came across this link, but they're a bit age-inappropriate. Any suggestions from the community? (gameranx.com)

Edit: Daughter is only 5 so she’s unlikely to play much but she watches me and as long as it’s not too violent, it should be fine

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Roughly what age are we talking? The list you linked is accurate and pretty much all the mainstream ones. Also,

  • Telltales The Walking Dead
  • Minecraft Story Mode
B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll let you know when it ends. Currently on year number 10…

Football Manager 2012 made a suprise appearance for me. I wouldn’t even call myself a football fan but I do love a good management game and 2012 doesn’t have all the convoluted crap of the newest versions.

Re-volt, racing RC cars is fun. I found a community patch/update so it runs on modern hardware and it’s been fun.

I’m not really one to ever finish games so it’s probably a single digit completion rate! That’s especially true now compared to the older generations of consoles.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

How was Oxenfree II for you? The first game is high on my favourites list but so far I haven’t got round to playing the new one.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I go though stages with RDR2 of playing it solid for a week or 2 and then not touching it for months. I’m still nowhere near completing the story as I spend most of the time just doing random stuff and taking it very slow.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I used to be in to sim racing in the early-mid 2000s but nowadays it’s a whole new level above what we could do. I’ve never tried iRacing myself but I do follow a couple of streamers.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I have the Uncharted Trilogy from when it was given away free during the pandemic and I agree that the first is a slog at times. I should probably skip it and start the 2nd game to see if it’s any better.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Death Stranding is a legit top 5 game of the decade for me. Loved it so much but also it is the hardest game to explain to people…

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for the offer but I just stick to Dirt Rally and driving virtual trucks in ETS2/ATS now.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I exclusivly play in the lower leagues and that puts more emphasis on the non pitch related stuff.

Another favourite is this,

Software Inc

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Have you thought about getting an XB1? The original model can be found very cheap and has backwards compatibility with 360 games so that is a huge library on offer.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’m still sad that Blur never made it on to the list…

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I bought Dishonoured back on the Xbox 360 and it was fun but for some reason I dropped off and never played the series again.

Daft Punk - Discovery

The Strokes - Is This It a close 2nd.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

The album is definitely something special. Every song is excellent but I’ve never really liked any of Daft Punk music videos and the Interstellar 5555 film is the same though.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

It’s been mostly motorsport recently with Formula E and BTCC on the weekend but we did watch Ruby Gillman, Teenage Cracken as a family. Nothing special but it got a couple laughs.

What's the deal with winning toasters at arcades?

So I was at a seaside arcade over the past week. Spent some time spamming the 2p slots machines and tickets are firing out of this thing. Go to exchange these at the kiosk and notice that you can get quite a few domestic appliances on the back shelf (13,000 tickets for a toaster, £5 of 2p slots got me 80 tickets)....

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve not seen that myself. I assume it’s someones attempt to refresh the prizes and they did a shit job…

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Minecraft Story Mode

It’s school summer holiday here so something to play whiles kids are around. I’ve played a few episodes in the past but never finished it and so far we are all enjoying it.

The Wandering Village was added to gamepass last week and it is very good. Who doesn’t want to build a settlement on the back of a giant wandering creature that you have to look after while you try and survive! Once you get the hang of it it is quite easy though.

MXGP 2021, it was cheap and I bought it on a whim but I’m enjoying it a lot. I know almost nothing about the sport but the game is challenging in a fun way so far.

Squad still gets played most evenings for a few hours. Think of the Battlefield games before they went to shit and that is what Squad is.

B0NK3RS OP ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah the first couple times with the poison was a pain with all the micro but once you get to the giogas and decontaminater it’s much better to deal with.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve heard good things on Legion recently so it’s now on my watchlist.

Foundation, series 2 has started and I’m already lost on what’s happening. I remember the first being good but so far so “meh”…

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I do the same as @Tuna, so sounds of rain/thunderstorms and soundtracks. I don’t like any vocals when reading.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Pikmin, finished it on the weekend. It’s been a long while since I played the first one so many good memories came flooding back. I did rush the last level/battle so there were many casualties that day!

Shenmue 3, finally started my playthrough after putting it off for years now and so far so good. There are a few things that I don’t like already (stamina & food system…) but it’s good to be back in the world.

Minecraft Story Mode, playing this one with the kids and my youngest is loving it.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’m playing the Switch version (which is the Wii update) so plays very well. Pikmin is one of those games that until you play it nobody can quite visualise it. It’s amazing but trying to tell somebody “I grow little flower creature people using an onion and then they follow me around and start fights…”

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Abandoned Engineering , not my usual thing but I like to watch at breakfast time. Not everything is built by the “good guys” but the enthusiasm for it all is great.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I do recommend it. Every episode has a topic and then a few different examples so it’s easy to stop and start like I do.

Kelenfold Power Station is a favourite so far with how extravagant it looks.

What are the best books for someone with depression? to read...

so i have depression, i take meds and i talk with people about it but im also bored/empty alot and i just want something to do that is diffrent, if that makes sense. i havent read a book in quite some time and im considerd a slow reader becasue im dylexic and i lack motivation. i feel if i find a good book to help with this it...

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

What did it for me was reading the books to my favourite movies and TV shows. It was at least 15 years of no books until I found The Expanse and now I would consider myself a regular reader.

As for where to get books I’d suggest a local library (free) or eBay (cheap).

@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Network Effect by Martha Wells. I went back and re-read the previous 4 in the series and its been great fun.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

1-4 are all great. This one I’m reading now was a slow starter for me, probably because of the character changes, but I’m starting to enjoy it more as I go.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been on a city building binge with Banished, Frostpunk and Ostriv this week. I do really like the smaller scale survival type ones.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, I think I was expecting more of a murder mystery but it turned out to be better than that. Highly recommended it.

Music wise I feel like I’m late to the party with Idles but they are so good. Ultra Mono is a quality album.

B0NK3RS ,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

A bigger pan would help but you’re right.
