Wait, so they dusted it with cocoa powder and then put those frosting dollops on top of that? The lid might have been the only thing holding those in place.

I think we might be agreeing, itā€™s just that ā€œmediocreā€ means different things to each of us. My team supports human spaceflight, and no one we have is crummy. The ā€œmediocreā€ people have pretty decent technical skills if youā€™re looking across all software development domains.

Personally, Iā€™ve found the decent technical skills to be easier to come by than the other ones, and having all of them in one package is a real discriminator.

People have those things in spectrums, not all or nothing. You have to have at least some of all of them, but Iā€™d argue that mediocre competency with really good communication and accountability is a better combination that really good competency with one of the others being mediocre.

Iā€™m halfway through scrolling this long thread, and this is the first comment Iā€™ve seen that isnā€™t overly cynical. Itā€™s also correct.

Iā€™ve been working for 38 years, and Iā€™ve been someone who makes promotion decisions for 15 of them. The third one is helpful, not essential, but the others are super important. The people who rise to leadership positions arenā€™t necessarily the top technical people, theyā€™re the ones who do those things with a good attitude.

The other thing Iā€™d add is that theyā€™re people who are able to see the big picture and how the details relate to it, which is part of strategic thinking.

This looks great, for sure will try. Kind of similar to a cobbler.

Absolutely! Maybe even mid-December.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I have no problem with stores selling holiday stuff way in advance of the holiday. Some people want to get their decorations all lined up, be working on crafts, or whatever. What I object to is when stores decorate for the holiday way in advance. I donā€™t want to see Christmas trees and snow men in October or pumpkins and witches in July.

Yeah, and this PSA doesnā€™t work - at least it didnā€™t for me. I think this comment is the actual cause, and why clearing cookies doesnā€™t help.
