New Yorkers who are relatively apolitical tend to vote Democrat just because that's the culturally normal thing to do there. As more and more of them witness the disaster of illegal immigration, I see two possible outcomes: either 1. they start to vote for conservatives, or 2. they pressure Democrat leadership to abandon their pro-illegal policy, and start deporting all of these criminals.

While that is hot, it ain't newsworthy hot. In Texas it's considered normal summer weather. Helps to have A/C.

Maybe so, but you're going to have to do better than Wikipedia citing USA Today to make a compelling case for it.

What leads a non-conservative to join a group of conservatives? You have the rest of the fediverse to hate on us. Why are you here?

I know plenty about my own country, thank you. I know we spent over a century fighting off savages who brutally murdered us and abducted and raped our women and children. I know that we never would have attempted to settle "their" land if they had already settled it with civilized infrastructure like buildings, bridges, and improved roads. Their roads were more similar to animal trails than European roadways.

It wasn't until recently that we stopped calling them savages and started feeling sorry for them. A lot of people want to whitewash history, but the truth is we rescued this land from savages, and historical documents make no bones about it.

What makes the meme conservative is that it combats the stereotypical leftist viewpoint that all immigrants equally valid as the Pilgrims and pioneers. The natives had no law libraries which Pilgrims and pioneers might access to verify the legitimacy of their claims. By contrast, illegal immigrants invade a developed country with plenty of established infrastructure and enforceable laws.

As for stumbling on this in the Hot sorting view, hahahahaha, sorry.

What a dismissive comment. I'm not xenophobic. If you have a book to recommend then recommend it.

The Left seems to collectively envision a future in which everyone is fully dependent on the government to survive. I suspect efforts like this drug deregulation are a means to that end. There's some threshold of homelessness, say 50% or 60% of the city's population, above which they'll step in and say "enough is enough, we need public housing for everyone." At that point they'll enact civil forfeiture to seize all private housing, and the entire city population can be housed in tenement "projects". Boom, homeless problem solved. And as a bonus, they have 100% of the population voting Democrat if they're sober enough to vote. With everyone in public housing, they can run it like a prison, with metal detectors and strip searches to prohibit gun ownership. Municipal wifi can prohibit access to "far-right extremist" news sources. Public meal programs can ensure that nobody eats meat, and everyone gets their shots. Basically paradise on earth, and Portland is leading our progress.

“The Left” is an incredibly vague term that groups together a lot of different groups that have hugely different ideologies and perspectives

Absolutely true, just like the Right. They're both coalitions, and many of us are guilty of treating them both as a hive mind, especially when we're on the opposing side.

Still, there's some truth to the generalization. Of course it's not true of every single person on the Left, but it's generally true of the Left's collective efforts.

Decriminalization […] Portugal’s system

You can't rightfully compare the US to any other country. As soon as you try to, you fundamentally misunderstand what makes us the greatest country on Earth. There are so many differences that make any attempt at comparison doomed to failure from the outset. To name just a few, our several States differ from other countries because:

  • We're predominantly Christian (and Christian values are thoroughly baked into the founding documents that give us our identity)
  • Our culture is based around natural rights
  • Our general attitude in most matters tends to be "liberty or death"
  • Geographically we're vastly enormous
  • We're heterogeneous, combining European cultures, specifically from the type of people who fled Europe for freedom — mostly from religious persecution.

So whatever works well in Portugal is 100% irrelevant to Portland, although they do have similar names.

but it’s not some deep conspiracy: it’s attempts (some better, some worse) at finding ways to address drug abuse problems in society.

The solution is clear if we actually wanted to solve the problem:

  • Anyone caught in possession of an illegal drug gets one chance to renounce it forever, or else they get deported.
  • Build the wall.
  • Close borders to all traffic, including international flights and international shipments. You can leave but you can't return.
  • Audit the entire population: Everyone living on US soil presents a valid proof of descent from documented legal immigration, or else gets deported.
  • Bomb the drug cartels out of existence.
  • Bomb every government harboring drug cartels out of existence.

Few people actually want to take these steps, but they'd solve the problem fully and quickly.

If homelessness is at 50%, that basically means the entire housing market has completely failed.

Agreed, but that's the goal as I contend. Communists don't trust markets.

California, the state with the highest homeless population (and it is a real problem!) has a homeless population of 0.44% of the total population.

No way that's accurate. You look at any recent video of California and every street is lined with tents. It looks like 99% of the population, and I'm sure it's not as bad as it looks, but there's no way it's 0.44% either. I'm sure it's hard to survey the homeless, but that figure is unbelievable. Especially because almost any Californian who could afford to moved out of California in the last five to ten years.

Automatically assuming that those trying to restart their lives are brainless alcoholics is so reductive I don’t even know where to start. The most effective and proven way to reduce the number of homeless people is to focus on a housing first approach. You house them, you provide them professionals to help sort out their issues, get them into a job and have them start paying off the house. This is an internationally proven approach.

"Internationally proven" means offensively un-American. As far as Americans are concerned, the only proven means to kick a drug habit is to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. That has a 100% success rate, far above any other approach. Anyone who'd rather not do that is unfit to live in the US anyway. As long as druggies have a genuine chance to repent and be reborn, anyone who prefers to side with Satan can get deported.

10A ,

I guess they must count graphemes instead of bytes — "𝕩" is four bytes.

10A ,

The sex / gender distinction was only preliminary, while they normalized gender fluidity. Now that distinction can be erased, as we're all ready for advancing "progress".

10A ,

I have to wonder how many of the people polled were Democrats. Whether or not you believe the election was stolen, it's clear Trump's unable to win. The only valid reason to support Trump in the primary is if you want Democrats to win in the general election.

10A ,

Among the MAGA crowd, that's certainly true. But he won't get any votes from the Left, none from the Center (including the "undecided"s), and none from quite a few conservatives who appreciate his impressive track record but are ready for someone more electable (DeSantis). So I really don't think he could come close to winning.

10A ,

Almost all of the replies I see there are from the Left. It's ironic considering the topic of the video, and considering Musk's impact on twitter. I'd go spend the next four hours balancing out the responses if I had the time and energy for it. I find it exhausting. The vast majority of normal American adults are sick of woke politics, but the internet sure does amplify the volume of vocal minorities. !

10A ,

You'll surely get different definitions if you ask different people, but I think that's okay, more or less. Because in general, Americans are sick of it, and DeSantis stands against it.

The precise definition is similarly unimportant with any divisive topic. That's an inadequate standard for academic research, but we're talking about voting for politicians here. It's okay to accept ambiguity.

10A ,

Woke is shorthand for the neo-marxist program to destroy western civilization. It pretends people are group-members instead of individuals. While classical Marxism did the same thing, grouping people into the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, neo-marxism divides people into various identity groups, mostly involving acts of disgustingly perverted sexual immorality, superficial skin color, and religious affiliation. Traditional American values are discarded by the woke worldview. Just as classical Marxism claimed that normal well-adjusted people who'd been successful at earning their own living were somehow "bad", woke neo-marxism claims that any normal person is bad. That means its practitioners openly discriminate against conservative white Christian men, especially if they practice heterosexual behavior in a traditional marriage. Woke manifests as DEI, BLM, and ESG. It involves indoctrinating children to believe God makes mistakes, and that kids should dismiss God and follow Satan to whatever pleasures of the flesh and disgusting perversions of morality they can imagine. Some of the current woke activities most celebrated by its practitioners include genital mutilation of children without their parents knowledge and slaughtering innocent human beings before birth. The woke eschew traditional families, traditional behavior, and traditional values. They are steadily working to dismantle western civilization, aka Christendom. Basically it's Satan's work in advance of the Rapture, and it's well documented in quite a bit of detail in end-times scripture. I hope that satisfactorily answers your questions.

10A ,

How does anyone know anything is accurate? It's my personal attempt to summarize a huge topic based on my personal experience. YMMV.

10A ,

Evidence is nothing more than someone's best assessment of their sensory data. Truth comes from God, and we know that from faith, which is stronger than any evidence based belief. All in all, we speak what we believe to be true, and it's not a great use of your time to question that.

10A ,

I'm not trolling you, but it sounds like you grossly misunderstood me, which is my fault for not communicating better. Sorry, I was tired when I wrote that. I'll try to explain what I meant.

I stand behind my definition of "woke", as it is what I believe to be true based on mountains of evidence over the years. That evidence is readily available pretty much everywhere you look online, unless you bury your head in leftist echo chambers. Also when you go to church and talk with your neighbors, assuming you live in a relatively normal American small town, it is one of the main topics of conversation, and has been for a long time.

That being said, everything I just wrote in the last paragraph is anecdotal based on my personal experience. Other normal conservatives may agree with my definition of "woke", yet if you were to ask them for their own it obviously wouldn't be verbatim what I wrote. Moreover if you do bury your head in leftist echo chambers, live in an urban hell-hole, and never go to church or talk with normal people, you might be completely out of touch with reality. You might think "woke" is somehow a good thing, and that perception would be your evidence, based on your personal experience.

I said you grossly misunderstood me because you said I don't care about truth, which is false. I care deeply about truth, more than anything. When we talk about truth, we talk about God. Jesus told us that he is the way, the truth, and the life. Everything we know to be true comes from God. As for evidence, we find abundant evidence of God's handiwork everywhere we look, and especially in our hearts. But despite that evidence, we trust in God out of faith, because faith trumps evidence every single time. Evidence is just a personal interpretation of sensory data, whereas faith gives us direct access to the truth that is God.

I certainly know how to have fun trolling on rare occasion when the mood strikes, but no, none of what I've written here is trolling.

10A ,

As a conservative, I cannot. I assume you are a conservative too, seeing as how this is m/conservative. I can tell you far more about people who self-identify as conservatives than I can about leftists.

That being said, I can tell you what makes neo-marxist theory. Wait, I already typed it out above, in the comment starting with:

Woke is shorthand for the neo-marxist program to destroy western civilization.

That's a relatively short comment, but suffice to say all of the high-level goals of traditional Marxism have carried over into neo-Marxism.

Are there leftist authors writing about it? Probably, but that's not the sort of thing I read.

10A ,

Good guess that I was referring to the one true living God! It sure is easy to communicate with fellow conservatives, but it's awfully suspicious to read those disrespectful minuscules.

I'm sure you're familiar with the Tower of Babel, which answers that question about divisions. However, all of the denominations (with extremely rare exception) agree on the essentials of Christianity.
