My newest publication came in. Now available on all the Amazons. May be available in other bookstores later this year. My play “A Time For Dolls” is a charming tale about sewing, survival cannibalism, spouse-swapping, and how people first learned to shit and give birth. @indigenousauthors#IndigenousCreatives#anthology#Bookstodon#WritingCommunity
When the Garden of Eden is set aside and a newborn earth is placed under the control of men, God calls it a day. While He sleeps, the world follows His orders by going forth and multiplying. This results in a burgeoning population of strange and noisy creatures, including the Nephilim. Racing toward a preordained ecological disaster, Nephilim, angels, mortals, and the planet itself must find a way to outwit God and survive the inevitable Great Flood.
Ningishzida is a snake who lives in the Garden of Eden. He’s the caretaker of the Trees of Life and of Knowledge. He has recently lost his best friend: a human woman named Eve who has been exiled. When he sees an opportunity to go looking for her, he heads off into the cursed earth leaving Paradise in chaos. The first person he meets is Enki, but Enki hasn’t seen Eve. Enki is the god of fresh water and semen. He’d rather be lazing around in the river or getting laid, but his angelic parent brings him some heavy news: God is going to drown the earth. To make matters worse, Enki will be the one to trigger the flood, and he isn’t allowed to tell anyone about it. Enki must scramble to find the loophole which will save lives as well as his good name. Will Ningishzida be able to help him? Will anyone? #IndigenousCreatives@indigenousauthors
Over the past two years, I’ve collaborated with Indigiqueer artists Bangishimo and Phoenix/Jordan M. Burns on a multimedia project called Monsters. I’m doing setup today. I wrote a collection of stories about different sorts of monsters. They will be playing on loop at the Gaukel Block in Kitchener today and tomorrow from 4-8, and on Saturday from 2-9. I will also be doing live storytelling performances on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm. There will be a final storytelling event and Q&A with all three of us Monsters on Sunday at 5:00. Bangishimo put together a video featuring real life monsters, and Phoenix is a puppeteer who has created wonderful puppets and a puppet show. In conjunction with the Indigenous Poets’ Society, I will be hosting a monthly co-writing group for Indigenous writers. It will take place on the first Tuesday of every month and will run from 19:30-21:30 EST (Toronto time). If you are interested, please email me at shanmonster at gmail dot com. These are free sessions hosted over Zoom. You can work on your own projects, and I will also provide prompts which you can use or ignore as you wish. @indigenousauthors#IndigenousMastodon#IndigenousCreatives#WritingCommunity#Indigedon#IndigenousFuturism
